When I try to make a new post, the image button (to insert an image in the post) is missing. I typed the command manually, and it just came up as a link. When I try to repond to posts, the button is there, but when I click, it just loads, and the insert text window never pops up. Is anyone else experiancing this problem, or is it just me?

I wouldn't mind seeing a forum rule that says that if someone asks for help, say with a computer problem, then they should not be met with "get Linux/Windows/Mac and you won't have that problem" kind of responses. That's just not helpful, and it's basically just going to send the poster tromping off in disgust.

I've noticed that almost every major branch of science here is covered, EXCEPT for ecology and environmental science. Especially in the biology forums I've noticed a certain lack of knowledge among members in their post about environmental concepts, esp. in regards to evolution, as well as a certain lack of interest in it altogether. Sure, atoms collide and a species evolves, but what about the big picture? This is just a request/inquiry. I think ecology & environmental science deserves its own forum, but if there's no interest in it, things are fine as they are.

Is there any way to set a longer period of time before the new message timer expires? What I mean is that when I come to the forum I see immediately which boards have new messages, and when I enter those boards the threads with new messages are bold. But then a timer starts, and often I don't get back to the board listing before it expires, so I can no longer see which threads have new posts in them that I haven't seen yet. Is there any way to adjust that setting? I've looked through the User CP and nothing leapt out at me, so I thought I'd check here.

I`m not sure if there`s a call for this from other users here, but would it be possible to have all the New Posts for the last 24 hours put into an area that can be DL`d easily and put onto floppy for reading on a laptop when there`s no inet access. the thought occured to me the other day whilst relaxing in my other Lab after I`de finished reading my book, "I wonder what`s going on in SFN". I know there`s an area that shows Printable version, could there be a DLable version made, but just for the Newposts?

It is said that practise makes perfect. Doing a lot of good exercises really help you to consolidate your skills, abilities to solve questions. Nevertheless, tricky and open-end question is slightly available for students in those thin text books. Regarding to our scientific knowledge here, I suggest that we create a region for storing some interesting and I mentioned above for sharing purpose. In reality, I am short-sighted and I wear glasses all the time. Perhaps, at the moment, I am really indeed "SHORT-SIGHTED" at my current suggestions.

I was just wondering if it was possible to sort the results from the "new posts" search according to the subforums.

So I worded it wrong... The question is why there isn't a sociology thread, while there is a psychology thread. The two approaches are very different, yet related, thus very important to co-exist. Can you give me a good response on this?

I just ran SFN through the HTML validator at http://validator.w3.org/ Guess what? We don't comply with standards! http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.scienceforums.net There are 115 things that it says we ought to change... whoa. Just to let you know.

title says it all really. what do you think of having one of these? i'm not talking about something for helping people with adademics or aiding in one's personal quest for knowledge. rather, i am thinking of something where a challenging question is raised and people try to answer it. potential ideas: who can post: -admin -admin and mods -anyone where they can be found: -as a forum under "general" -as a forum under physics, mathematics, medical sciences, biological sciences, other sciences, etc...which is another reason we should have chemistry be its own "science," lest we have chem/comp sci/engineering questions all together.

there is an option is the user cp to get a 'Show New Private Message Notification Pop-up' i enabled this option and so whenever i get a new PM i get a popup box saying do you wanna see it (the PM) and do you wanna open it in a new window? i have had this option ticked for a while and now and NONE of the options in the pop-up boxes work! i cant make them display the message and i cant make em open a new window to display it. if no one else has this problem then it is probably just a firewall or anti-spyware thing, but thought i'd point it out and see if it is a programming fault or an end-user (me!) fault.

I was thinking...the debate format that we're working from now is getting a little old. Why not include a new format, like Lincoln-Douglas format. Since Lincoln Douglas debates are all about ethics and values, we should at least give it a thought, considering that we have a section devoted to biomedical ethics. For those who dont know, Lincoln Douglas debates are all, ALL, about morals and values. The first debater would have to define all the values that they will be debating, then how they would uphold them. Then the resons why holding those values in that respect is best. The neg would in turn hold the values in another light, and prove why that is better. …

I have seen a few suggestions for a few extra sub-catagories on SFN. I think this is a great idea, but the problem I see is there are so many catagories of sciences to make. A few more wouldn't hurt I don't think though. Maybe we could suggest some, have the mods put it to a poll for a month and pick the top two sub-catagories that are voted on. I would suggest Environmental sciences and Science fiction.

I mentioned this in another thread but, I thought I would bring it here since it is more appropriate. I was thinking we should have a page on the front of the website that displays the 10 best quotes on SFN. There are many options in doing this for example, 10 best quotes of the month, year, or just 10 best of all time. Doing it by month or year, we would need some form of voting and submitting of new quotes during the month/year. 10 best of all time would be the easiest route but I think recycling quotes and having new ones up often would make it more interesting. The quotes of course would have to be original and posted by members of this forum.let m…

How about we make an official thread where we can post interesting and stories. Like short stories and/or books. It would be also nice for authors looking for scientific advice, and help. Stories could be: adventure, allegory, anecdote, apologue, article, autobiography, beat, biography, book, chestnut, chronicle, cliffhanger, clothesline, comedy, conte, description, drama, epic, fable, fairy tale, fantasy, feature, fiction, folktale, gag, history, legend, memoir, myth, narration, narrative, news, news item, non-fiction, novel, old saw, parable, potboiler, recital, record, relation, report, romance, saga, scoop, sequel, serial, spiel, tale, tragedy, version, yarn …

Is looks some sort of useless to just say i agree or disagree in the threads... because it is not a pool.... what sense has to say i disagree someone already disagreed firts... Or, how am i going to know that this guy, is the one i want to debate to. What i suggest is to say something like i agree / disagreee and a brief why. " I disagree because it's against with x law that states the contrary"

Occasionally i get the message shown below. it doesnt last for long (about 5 mins) but this is not the first time this has happened. i think that this site is getting ever more popular and there is an increase in traffic. maybe a bandwidth upgrade is in order. obviously it costs money, but just something to monitor.
