If one would take a computer and study it from A to Z, from the very atoms inside inside those elements found in the many metals found in them to the very output produced by the many instructions, assembly languages, programming languages etc - one would, basically be a god-blessed genius. My question is - is there a field of study that teaches one about computers in such a manner? Computer Science, IMO, would seem like it teaches the most obvious first-hand foundations of said technology. Thus would cover, I think, only the most modern interpretations of these lovely machines like how circuitry works, how you can make a LED calculator with some resistors and a basic …

Dear All, I would like to know your opinion about this journal paper. It involves something similar to texture synthesis algorithms, but different. http://www.springerl...77035k61724.pdf Do you guys know any other technique that can perform the same kind of simulations, BUT better ? Best, Mike

I did some research on this project, and it does not seem that there is a program that can actively receive sound and then find the inverse of that wave and play it out. On a level of 1 to 10 how difficult would a project like this be programming wise? In theory it seems pretty easy.

Hello, At http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/packages/smartAnimator/ I input "sw $t0, foo". I can't understand the second and third steps. Why is $t0 broken into t and $0...so what do t and $0 mean by themselves? What do they mean by an offset and why is foo treated as an offset? What is sign extension?

Hello, I recently found this forums, when I was looking for places with computer science enthusiasts, so I can show my project (basically hobby) and hopefully get some feedback and discussion (I asked administrator if I can post this). Basically it's new kind (sort of) of processing unit called WPU, which tries new unusual, unconventional and creative approach to processor design and programming for several reasons: to give programmer's some "toy" and interesting thing to play with, to encourage thinking about standard and conventions (and this particular processor also encourages program optimization) and thus allow better understanding of them by introducing somethi…

I theorize that the world as we know it is inside a computer simulation.... and that this will become a popular theory that many may come to believe on their own without my help and without knowledge of me or my theories... one important fact to remember is that as societies approach a certain point simulations become highly advanced and that they can simulate worlds... also the rules of processing power as we know them may not be exact dead on in terms of what we can do with our silicone.. Also we are more likely to be further in the future within a civilization than we think... so far ahead that processing power would not be a big deal as long as processing power used …

would it be possible for a solar cell to power a cell phone? if it was not exclusively powered by the solar cell it would extend the time between charges (assuming that it has a battery and can still be charge conventionality) right?

What's the maximum possible processor speed? Surely there comes a point when nHz is indistinguishable from (n+1)Hz.

So I am trying to create a Mathematica program where I will give it a set of data, and a desired radius. The program will then create a new data point at each a position on a circle with desired radius, and calculate the spatial median median for the original data set, and the that new point. It will then create a new point on the circle, and calculate the spatial median for the the original data set and this second point. It will continue to do this going all around the circle, and then when it is done it will graph the original data set, along with all of the spatial medians it calculated. My code is: << MultivariateStatistics` f[r_, Data_] := (temp …

Okay so i was just reading a thread about Nooks and Kindle 2 which are different versions of an e-book reader (the latter developed by amazon) which got me thinking about other pieces of technology which is out there that i have absolutely no idea about. heres an example http://johnnylee.net/projects/wii/ now if i knew anything about wii technology or had one myself i could explain a little about it and give my opinion on it unfortunately i dont and hence why i started the thread btw from reading a bit of the site i think all you need is a wii remote and a c# compiler heres another example http://www.netgadget...camera-pen.html this type of te…

A graph of worldwide internet usage-is there such a thing? I didn't see any via google. There are graphs of current transfer speeds in different areas but I didn't see any mapping numbers of people or quantity of data transfer by region or worldwide-in real time.

Hi: I'm thinking of a computer that does not need a central processing unit. Instead it uses multiple asynchronous peripheral processing units. Does such a PC exist? Can Windows run on it? Thanks, Green Xenon

"Microsoft Windows Search Protocol Host has stopped working" I recently started using Windows 7 (formerly on Windows XP). Above is an error message I have been getting dozens of times a day. It doesn't appear to interfere with anything I am doing, but it is a nuisance. Any suggestions about what is going on and what can I do about it?

How can you remove a registry key that shows up as a threat on Spybot but cannot be removed or fixed? I found 26 of these things since Wendnesday . If they can't be removed then would a complete removal of my OS be needed then reapplied? Thank you for your help.

Hi folks. I was messing around with the .NET timer component and found a recurring signal that modulates every so often. When juxtaposed against a repeating variable that moves through 0-9 indefinitely, a sine wave appears. To me, a sine wave represents life. Especially since it is occuring at the software level, much like the human brain. Check out my website www.intelligentcomputerprocess.com and read a little more. I'm selling the software to others who want to research the phenomenon too. I'll charge less to members of this forum. Even if you aren't interested, take a look and help spread the word.

From The Essentials of Computer Organization and Architecture (2nd Edition) pg 155 Using DeMorgan's Law, write an expression for the complement of F if F(w, x, y, z) = xyz'(y'z + x)' + (w'yz + x'). Firstly, I expressed the bracketed expression as x'y + x'z'. Then, I evaluated the left addend to 0. Left with the right addend, I found that F' = (w'yz + x')' = wx + (yz)'x. The book, in the solutions, complements the entire function first and arrives at x' or y' or z or ((y'z + x)((w + y' + z')x)). Why doesn't my method work? xtheunknown0

So basically, I start 4 year college this fall to begin my Bachelors in Computer Science. Albeit a little late at the age of 25 Here is a little academic background. My current level of math is just about at the college algebra level, although I am fairly confident in that area. I have messed with an intermediate amount of procedural PHP (that was how I started PHP) and started looking a little at Object Oriented PHP as far as coding goes. I have also, extensive experience with HTML/CSS. I am looking to pre study before my classes, and looking for a finger in the right direction. As far as I understand, Computer Science is very math intensive and covers a lo…

Hello, I'm having a bit of a problem. I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this in, if it's even the right website. Anyways, please answer if you can. You see, I created an HTML web page with Microsoft Notepad. I'm really proud of it, and I want to share it with the world. The only problem is, I tried finding a free domain hoster, but nothing worked for me. I'm not familiar with the computer language. I didn't understand, really, anything on Atspace. So, now my question: Is it possible to create a link (like "www.scienceforums.net") to my file? If so, how? If I wanted to post my web page on the Internet, would I have to pay up? If it helps any, …

Hey guys, some month ago i first heard of fractals. They fascinated me from the beginning on. So i decided to code a little fractal explorer and create a website so other people can learn about fractals too. The software is now in a beta state. It has following features: - Plot several fractals (sierpinski triangle, kochcurve, kochsnowflake, mandelbrot set) - Zoom into mandelbrot set - Dynamic color options - Create zoom videos into the mandelbrot set (right now it is only possible to create the frames and save them as bmp) It would be awesome if some of you could test it and tell me if they found any bugs. And, as english is not my mother toung if you…
