This is a thread I wanted to make for quite some time... namely since 2011 when the whole SOPA / PIPA / ACTA / CISPA madness started, as part of a massive plan to censor the internet. Like many others, I've been interested in a way to create a framework that would allow people to post what they want, without either an ISP being able to censor them nor the government being able to knock at a specific door and arrest someone for what they're hosting. Most attempts to make this dream come true have been at networking level. Mesh networking in routers is an example of it being done through hardware, while TOR is an example of an attempt through software on existing device…

So, I have been conflicted on what language to use: Ruby or Python? There are many sites that probably have comparisons, but I want to ask if anyone, in experiencing any of the two languages, if they could give their take on their pros and cons. Is there some benefit using one or the other? Is it merely style? Is one more powerful than the other? Or is one just easier to work with? Here is some categories when posting comparisons: Dealing with data sets(lists) Recursion issues Dynamics Syntax Other

  5. Since 2008 I have been attempting to solve the Computer Science problem: Does P equal NP? My approach has been to focus on finding a Polynomial Solution to the NP problem: Given a Graph G, what is the Maximum Independent Set for G? ( Wiki Link ) I am posting about this for a few reasons: Discussion about "P = NP?" I believe that P does equal NP, in the sense that there is a solution(s) to MIS and I believe that there is a faster way than Brute Force Method in order to return an answer. Sharing of my ideas I hope this helps anyone else seeking a solution to this problem to learn from my experiences Feedback from others that could lead to new understanding and ideas…

welcome.gpf is not a valid domain name, so I'm not sure what you are trying to say. And can you give an example of where "we" (who is "we"?) are heavily censored?

Hi, I've been trying to get an answer as to whether this simple, 3-bit mechanical digital computer is in fact Turing Complete: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digi-Comp_I I have seen references to it as a counter machine (which is Turing-complete), a register machine (of which counter machines are the simplest examples), and as a Von Neumann machine (storing its program separate from data), but no confirmation of these claims or a definitive answer as to whether it's Turing Complete. It can be programmed to play NIM and Tic Tac Toe, I believe (not sure about Tic Tac Toe). I realize that it is of course memory-limited...but it it was expanded, could it carry out …

I want to make a small homemade electrocardiogram machine. That will run on my computer. I found a small tutorial here http://www.eng.utah.edu/~jnguyen/ecg/ecg_index.html which lists some materials to use with a small circuit board but am unsure where to begin.

  13. So, the company making the Outernet is providing a service that is only a one-way service(which means that it can only send information, not receive it). They plan to do a two-way communication in the future, but they stated it won't be any time soon. However, I have a design in mind that might work(or not, depends). The company is giving out source code to what is known as The Pillar, which is a device that gets the info from their satellite and has a raspberry pi download that info and send it to wifi recipients. Of course, again, the one-way communication doesn't allow sharing of data by other users. Here is my solution to that. What I was thinking of is a one-…

  14. Hello, i bought a laptop for the first time in my life, and i was wondering, since laptops are so small, heat is pushed directly on the plastic of the laptop and i know that plastic if heated up can become toxic, what amount of heat (in temperature celsius) makes a laptop "lenovo t43 (refurbished)"'s plastic toxic? i usually get to 53-55-57 celsius for the processor ingame and for the hard disk 41c. (the laptop is refurbished)

Hello everyone, i would like to know if there is some evidence proving that Wi-Fi is not unhealthy. Is there a risk with the radiations that comes from Wi-Fi emitted by routers?. I usually keep the Wi-Fi off unless i need it. Sometime i play some internet games using Wi-Fi for about two hours a day. The router is in my bedroom but i go upstair to play games. My router is a d-link DSL-2640R. Is going distant from the routers going to be more dangerous for me because the Wi-Fi has to get to me, or is going distant safer? What worrys me more is that people living understair my bedroom keep Wi-Fi on 24/h. Could long exposure from the Wi-Fi of people living underst…

So I am really into algorithms and i have been researching pathfinding and the various algorithms and methodology behind it. After some very intruiging research i have gotten down to the nitty-gritty of making my own algorithm and I am happy to announce i have a working algorithm for any obstacle and [in theory] it takes less steps and time than traditional pathfinding algorithms (such as A* and Dijkstra's algorithm) . for ex.) I had set up a 100x100 "tile" maze and after 6 steps into the algorithm it had a definite path from the start to finish. As far as i know 6 steps is very impressive- Its not completely worked out, however most of the algorithm is complete!…

“The new version of the Church-Turing thesis (now called the ‘Church-Turing Principle’) does not refer to Turing machines. This is important because there are fundamental differences between the very nature of the Turing machine and the principles of quantum mechanics. One is described in terms of operations on classical bits, the other in terms of evolution of quantum states. Hence there is the possibility that the universal Turing machine, and hence all classical computers, might not be able to simulate some of the behavior to be found in Nature. Conversely, it may be physically possible (i.e. not ruled out by the laws of Nature) to realize a new type of computation ess…

So, I have been thinking about implementing something into a project I am developing. Here is a diagram of how it will work: The basic idea is crowd hosting on mobile platforms(because of the project I am developing). I am implementing another feature called voluntary crowd hosting, where a person can choose to crowd host on their mobile device. How it works is there is communication between the recipient and both the crowd hoster and the server containing the content. Both the main server and the crowd hoster(s) contain data. Whenever a recipient requests certain content, something will search for that content. If the recipient both allows content from the serve…

  24. Recently, I have been working on a project that requires the use of a database for many features I am implementing into it. Currently I am using MySQL as the database service. However, I have searched on the web about databases and their uses, advantages, and disadvantages. Here are a list of database services that I know of used on the Internet: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_relational_database_management_systems And, as far as I know, the two biggest competitors are MySQL and Oracle. I have looked at arguments from mainly the MySQL and Oracle perspectives and the main differences in both is MySQL is a fast solution, but very low feature wise while Ora…
