Hey everyone. My name is Jon. I am a senior, who just decided to take programing this year. ha, turns out i'm not addicted to the code, so much that i have taught myself far beyond anything we've learned in the class.and while i get basically what to do.. some things i have a couple complications.. cause i can't ask anyone bout it. just read the tutorial. (Q basic by the way). and I am making my first game currently. I have my intro, and a menu screen, and I even have 3 levels on my game, but the problem is in my menu screen. it's a red arrow, which uses the "2" key to toggle, and then "x" key to select. problem is when i'm at my menu, I always get trapped in a loop, or a…

Three main questions in BASIC programming for the TI-83+.. 1. How can you prevent other people from editing your program? I've heard people say that it's in the programming, and I've also heard you had to buy a special format. Can anyone answer this question truthfully? 2. Is it possible to change a program's name? The program I want to change was originally a test, but has become amazingly huge, and is out of the test phaze, so I need to know if there is an alternative to typing in the loads of programming. 3. How can you make a loop, or at least a path, for a certain character. I know about the For( loop, but if I want something to circle the screen, for exa…

This question is just for personal request.......... I am always wondering why the program from Linux cannot install in Windows.....? I know from very simple knowledge, that they are two different OS.......but still they all work on same CPU (same machine/assembly language)...........Is it a problem that windows is 64 bits and Linux is under 64 bits? (this is why Windows program cannot work under DOS, right?) I know that Windows cannot operate on Mac, because the machine language (CPU) is not compatible......right?

I have few problems about the file types of Dos...... For .bat, We can likely "program" it using Dos command lines, but I see some other .bat file not using Dos command, but somehow looks like using C language.....it really makes me confused......Can anybody give me some help? Secondly, my Dos book teaches me some important dos files, which are .bat, .exe, .com, and .dat, but no .sys..... Can anybody tell me what is .sys and what is the relationship/difference of .sys and .bat (since both use command line) thirdly, there are some file types that are not useful in Dos, but in Windows, they are .ini and .dll, what are they? I know nothing about them, but I wa…

I want to clarify my simple understanding about the role of ALU. There are two components; 1- Arithmatic Unit. 2- Logic Unit. The role of arithmatic unit is simply to do arithmatic operations on numbers. These numbers come from written program instructions. The role of Logic Unit is to derive logical conclusion. It performs comparisons to decide about equal, greater or less values etc. The thing I want to clarify is that logic unit derives logical conclusions. Just like in ordinary deductive logic, there are two premises and the conclusion is drawn from the information contained in premises. My question is that is computer also derive deductive conclu…

I'm fairly new to java and was assigned a project to work on. It's regarding pipelining vs. non-pipelining. Here's my requirements: Program must show execution times and CPI consisting of a form with 5 textfields to allow user to enter time for instruction fetch, instruction decode, execution, memory, and write back. Another textfield should be created for the total number of instructions. Captions must be used to display execution times and CPI for both pipelined and non-pipelined. Also, the program need to have a calculate and an exit button. Can someone help me with some of this? Maybe some rough code...thanks!

What do you think of it? Personally I think parts need to be fixed. For instance in the case where the college kid who found out that using the shift key with a protected cd, riaa, and other areas. Are putting barriers to growth with technology and all these patents like the recent MS patent for that IM protocol/something....when a user is typing a IM message it appears on the other pc.....

There are lots of O.S. I would like to try, can any body tell me any O.S. which is excellent on.. capability with softwares and hardwares server programming environment stability mobility (easy to carry; small size) flexibility (open code;system can be programmed using Java or C language or Basic) Yes, I think there is an O.S. which has those advantages, but what I found is mostly linux, it is has most of the advatages ,but not for the capability of softwares, and some of them does not have excellent mobility....so it is very frustrated..... Any body knows a such excellent O.S.? Apreciate for furthur responds.... Albert

Are fan-less PCs much more energy-efficient than 'fanned' PCs? I've also read that LCD monitors are considerably more consume less energy. So, I'm thinking of getting myself an energy-efficient PC (also contemplating switching to the Linux OS - but that's a separate issue). Can anyone give me some advice? I've noticed that some people on these forums have built their own computer. I suspect that the initial investment for an energy-efficient PC might be higher than it would be otherwise, but I think the savings would be worth it in the long run. So, are fanless PCs much more expensive? And LCD monitors? Thanks in advance.

When information is stored on disks, minuscule regions that make up each bit of data are magnetized in one direction or its opposite, to represent a 0 or a 1. Rewriting data involves sending an electromagnetic pulse that reverses the spin of selected bits. Accelerate the pulse and you shorten the time needed to store or rewrite information. But if the pulses come too quickly and intensely, the high energy involved makes some of the magnetic changes happen randomly instead of predictably and reliably, according to a group of researchers writing in Wednesday's edition of the journal Nature. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=562&ncid=738&am…

Already have a SiS655Fx chipset MoBo. Wondering about chipsets, because I will be building another for someone who will be doing lots of graphical work. I know of SiS655(TX/FX), i875P & i865(P,G,PE), VIV, nForce chipsets... Is there a 'best' chipset? I'm sure they all have their own good qualities. My SiS655FX runs at a constant 100F just about, more if I do anything on the computer so I would assume, its the weaker of the chipsets because it seems it is working 2x as hard to keep up with a 2.4ghz P4. If anybody can shed any light on chipsets, or know some links would be great!

This is what I've got basically and during run-time it's not working. /****************************************/ File tk = new File(String path); boolean delCheck = false if(tk.exists()) delCheck = tk.delete(); if(delCheck) System.out.println ("Delete Complete"); else System.out.println ("The file was unable to be deleted"); /****************************************/ I've made sure my buffered reader objects are closed and all file threads are closed. The File exists at the location I'm sure, any suggestions? I must be missing something. thanks tk

After my abortive affair with Redhat before Christmas, I've now gone back to Linux. I'm dual-booting between Windows (yuk) and Mandrake 10 (yay). Anyone know of any "must have" software? I'm quite impressed at Bluefish so far, but I would like something that's a closer analogue of Dreamweaver MX (for the excellent validation alerts and syntax highlighting, etc). Also is the Gimp the best PS analogue, or are there better packages?

Hey, I'm looking for a freeware notepad where all it does besides the normal "Notepad.exe" functions is highlight strings ie, stuff in between quotation marks. It would be ever so super-nifty if one of you blokes would point me in the right direction so as to allow me to continue working on my project. It's a Sonique 2 skin. Sonique 2 is rad, but it crashes my computer so I have a hard time figuring out if its my skins code that's messing it up or if its just my flaky computer running at 2% resources while sonique is open. No joke. 2%. The notepad would help a lot. Anyhoo, that would be fantastic.

I have configured a guestbook.pl for my website...and it works great except for one little thing. When you type something in the comments box that ends up being a few lines long....and then click submit.....the posting displays the comments as one long line rather than wrapping them around into several lines....which then causes a scroll bar to appear at the bottom and you have to keep scrolling to the right to see the whole line. How can I make the comments wrap around to where the lines don't go over let's say 80 characters in length....which would then wrap around to the next line and so forth until it reaches the last letter?? I have been looking all over the internet…

Hi hi again to all, Well. We've recently upgraded my home computer (actually it's a 3 comp network) to ADSL 1.5Megs. Since my dad is concidered to be a business, the best way that my ISP offered him was using a static IP (they do that to all business clients). Now. My dad did that, but then got panicked when people told him that with a static IP it's easier to hack into the computer. I find that utterly annoying and rediculous. Everyone knows that if someone wants to hack inside a comp, he can do that regardless of static or dynamic IP. BUT, go argue with daddy. Err Anyways we have a router with built-in firewall, but I *hate* it. It's not all that…
