I installed Civilization 3 (basic) on my XP computer but when I run it it says "Frequency Out Of Range." Then gives some Frequency is: whatever, safe range (I think) whatever. It's the monitor telling me this. I messed around some in properties and changed a few things like colors, resolution, refresh rate, etc. This didnt fix civ, but under 32 colors, bzflag does not run. (fortunately I dont need to reboot when bzflag does this... F12. I have to reboot every test run on civilization. I've read some about this, and one fix is with drivers. I found *the* driver for it (CM1772PF) but it also asks for another file I cannot find: The file that gives a 404 is in…

As I may have mentioned in the past, I'm a graduate student in computer science, working towards a PhD. Recently I've had a number of classes in which the professors required me to use different Java IDEs for various assignments. One prof loves NetBeans. Another prefers Forte. Another (oddly enough) likes Visual Studio. I'm curious what you guys like. I'm also curious what you guys think of the whole Java IDE situation. What's good and what's bad about it?

First of all i hate biology.... The living things have being considered as those whom present some characteristics. Growth - You can make a computer that repairs itself and add itself new stuff with a nice coded program. Metabolism - Energy Supply, Batteries, with a nice program that makes the computer indetify energy supply. Motion- Computer would have to move to repair itself.. Reproduction.- Nice code and mechanisms to make the computer build another. Response to stimuli - Kerboard? Sensors? Cameras?

IBM and Toshiba have developed a new superchip called The Cell. It defies Moore's Law as it is well ahead of its time. It's clock speed it said to be over 4GHz (intel's best is 3.8GHz) It works by having specially tuned transistors (it has 234 million of them) and more significantly has 9 cores. You know Intel are showing off their dual processors.... this has 9 cores!!!!! IBM experimented putting The Cell chips together which allowed them to handle 16 trillion calcluations per second. Significantly it doesnt have massive power useage and does now nead extreme cooling measures. The blueprints for it were showsn at the International Solid State Circ…

i was just bored so i tried figuring out a better way to make things apear invisible... i saw that one japaneese guy's thing and thought it was crap cuz u could see shadows n stuf and wanted to make my own way.. only problem: it would cost too much well ne ways heres the basic idea : you have a small camera with hundreds of surfaces (so reely its hundreds of small cameras) all on a semi-sphere that get sent to the parallell screen on the oposite side of the suit/vehical/ w/e and then it gets displayd that way. the screens would be a little biget than the camera and blend many camera signals together to form one picture.. so from no matter what angle you look at it y…

I have a 3" x 3" computer fan which I thought I'd add to my computer, however my computer uses the standard 4-pin power leads and the fan just had a red and a black wire (postivite/negative)... I don't know for certain which way around to put the wires in, I asked a few people and no one knew, couldn't find it on the net, so I just took the red lead and put in into the 4-pin power socket into the hole which had a red lead going into it. Incidently the computer was on so I could see if the fan worked, so the HDDs where whirring and there was a CD going too... as I put the red lead into the 4-pin thing at first nothing happened, then SPARK.... power failure. OK, cra…

Ok, i have just tried to install a new harddrive in my pc, i currently have two. The bios will detect the HDD, it detects the model number and the size of the HDD BUT windows will not detect ot. I have recently installed an almost identical disk BTW. I spoke to my dad, he said if the bios detects it, but windows doesnt, its probably not formatted, so i should use Fdisk. HOW do i use it on XP? on previous operating systems i could just whip open a CMD promt, and run fdisk from there, but that doesnt seem to work on XP. So basically, can you suggest WHY the HDD doesnt show up in the operating system, but it does in the bios? And if it shows up…

I've worked with both IBM's WASAD J2EE and Microsoft's C#/VB.net development environments. While I love the idea of open source and nonproprietary software solutions, I can produce the same product in half the time in .Net. Java is progressing but will it be able to mature before .Net takes the market place from it? IBM or Microsoft...An instructor I had once said "Just who is the evil empire and who is the rebel alliance; the lines are too blurred to be drawn." So, can Java compete or is .Net destined to rule the net? Thanks, Rich

No, not the pharmacy. I've been trying to download a CVS file to test it out on my computer (phpBB 3 actually). However, all I get is a file that Windows has no idea what to do with, and I can't figure out my CVS client (TortoiseCVS). So can someone tell me how to take the file on my computer and set it up so I actually have the files for phpBB3 there? I'd like to test it. edit: hey, it made my title lowercase!

I had a pile of old floppy disks that I hadn't used in a while. When I put them into my computer, I found that most of the data was either gone or corrupt. Does the data on a floppy disk always go bad after several years? Also, how long does the data on a hard disk last before disappearing or becoming corrupt? What about the data on a CD-R or a CD-RW?

Usern. & pass. + voice r. + fingerprint auth. + eye auth. and that's about it, as much as I could come up with... can't recall any more, so if there are any other forms please add them. i also thought of a possible new addition to the auth. security and that be the signature of the user. i'm not sure if this already exists or not but it ju…
