I've built a tank-like vehicle and need help setting up the control differently. The drive-system of the vehicle is two independant motors, and each operate on 3 volts. I need to be able to control each of the motors forward and backward. Currently, I have a battery system where there are two seperate battery holders (2xAA each = 3v each). One motor runs off one battery set, and one motor runs off the other. The batteries are in the controller, and 4 wires go to the vehicle. However, I'm wondering if there is a better way to do this. Most toy vehicles have one set of batteries to power all the motors. The system I'm using works terrific, exept for c…

I have a goped model gsr40 to those who know. This model has a pullstart and does not have an electric ignition, thus no energy for lights or other electrical aspects. What i have conceived is an electric generator that i would make and get to spin off of the rear drive sprocket which would rotate at whatever speed the wheel turns at. This would work, but a few things come to mind: there is no power if the wheel is not spinning, there is no way to regulate the voltage. What i decided on was some kind of resistor? to make the flow from the generator constant, and i want to have this constant electrical flow charging a battery that i could then run the electrical components…

Hey, I'm in this robotics class and i've built a robic arm that I am to program in c++ so that it can sort different colored marbles. Were supposed to create some sort of loading device to that will allow the arm to pick the marbles up one by one. And at the same time, using phototransistors + leds to determine its color. Though I know how to use sensors to determine its color. One white led on one side, 3 phototransistors on the other (ryb, and all the marbles will be clear). I wanted to know what sort of ideas you guys had for the loading device or "hopper". Currently I had to come up with a new idea because my old design using a tube would not allow me to change the si…

I am new to this and i am struggling on this problem. i am also realy struggling in my circuits class This is what i have so far the knowns Vs= 50v Vz = 10 v Iz = 32mA R1 = 1K ohm Rl =? "potentmeter" i just got the multisim program and could draw the cir if need be R1 is in series with the source and the zener and rl are in parallel it wants me to determine the range of Rl, Il, Vrl I havew so far is 50 /1K = 50mA Vrl = 10 v I l = 50mA-32 mA = 18 mA Rl = 556 ohms is this correct and how would i go about finding the range of Rl thanks joe

How do those "earthquake shock absorbing foundations" work? What are they made of? How do skyscrapers get so high? If skyscrapers are so big and heavy, why aren't they collapsing? Will a skyscraper collapse even with the best architecture if it has too much weight? Does the top of the skyscraper tilt first before the bottom in an earthquake? How heavy can a skyscraper be? If a terrorist plane is rammed into a geodesic dome, will the whole dome collapse? Would earthquake proof foundations of a geodesic dome be the same as an ordinary house? If you had geodesic domes underground, and an earthquake hit, would the dome break? How do you prevent the collapse?

Hi everyody, I intend to buy a pulsed laser depostion (PLD) setup to deposit thin ceramic films. By reading the litterature it seems that a lot of people use KrF lasers with a wavelength of 248nm. However using a solid-state Nd:YAG laser whose frequency is quadrupled (1064nm down to 266nm) seems to be also possible. What are the pros and the cons concerning the use of a KrF gas laser and a Nd:YAG solid-state laser to work around 250nm for deposition of thin oxide films? Thanks in advance for your help and for sharing your experience of PLD. Souiss

Hello fellow scientifiteers.....heh Well, i have this idea for a new kind of paintball gun, and i need a way to use compressed air to power a rotary in pulses, like a clock. My first idea was to use a piston which would work a ratchet, however my entire goal here is to eliminate linear motion. Another crazy idea i had was to have the gas power a turbine and use extreme down-gearing to slow it waaayyyy down....but the problem is that i need this thing to move in very short, very precise pulses, and i need it to do it very very quickly, as in a matter of milliseconds.... So my third idea is to use the air to power a piston that can also move up and down and is on a cran…

Some day we will be blessed by the ability to sustain energy fields and contain forces like pieces of neutron stars and maybe black holes. As we miniturize our containment, do you feel this is the direction for explosives to go? If we just release containment, we release energy. Just aman

Is there sucha thing as a pressure increasing valve? If so, depending on the PSI put into the "low" side.. how much of an increase in pressure would it be.. I know that there are alot of things to take into account.. Lets say on the "low" side, we have 200-500 PSI... is there any way of doubling that with a valve ( if ther is such a thing )?? thanks

Ignore how little application this may have in modern times but i have an idea. Say you are sailing your ship somewhere where there isn't much wind. Could you create artificial wind by using a system of bellows (obviously they'd have to be large, and have some well ordered and fairly strong mechanical power source)---- or would that not get you anywwhere because the air would push the bellows back with equal force as the masts are pushing the ship forward? Would the forces just counter each other with the bellows attached the very thing they attempt to will?

This is a reply to the Remote Control post thing. It was closed for some reson. You know, I could break into area 51 personoly if I had the equipment. I can get the information easilly enough on the securoty perimeters. I have two uncles,(whos names I will not tell so as to keep them safe,) who work for the goverment. One who creates the gov.'s securaty programs, and another who runs them, and teaches thse to use them. If I could get those to talk, I could come up with a why to brake in side, disable the security, and get all the info. I need to keep the internet conspiracyers going for a while. The problem is, I'm poor as dirt, and can't afford the equipment, and I live …

Wow nobody posts in this section very often. Well here is my big engineering feat---- and I think it could possibly be not very expensive. OK, finding Area 51 is not difficult, just look up the road, and drive down it until you get to the sign that says lethal force will be used against tresspassers. Well I think i got a way to get past the sign---- remote control. Obviosly simple radio wont suffice, because there's probably no safe or legal place to get close enough range----- so what about remote control by satellite? I am definately not buying a satellite- so what if you could adapt existing equiptment to do a different function? OK this likely nee…

Hi everyone, I have a problem at the moment with a PWM Controller (IC) uc3844 and I am wondering if anyone out there has any experience with them. I am using it in a Flyback converter Power supply circuit to switch a Mosfet but I am having great difficulty getting it to switch. it seems that the Voltage feed back is getting 2.5V which is max through the chip but it is meant to be an input not an output. i think that the Error amp inside is fried but any help on the situation would be greatly appericated Cheers, MD

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - This is SDR-4X, the newest robot from Sony. Sony's last robot was Aibo, the robotic pet-dog. What this little thing can do is pretty amazing, I want one. Too bad it costs as much as a luxury car... TOKYO (Reuters) - Judging from the cooing at a demonstration of Sony's diminutive SDR robot, few would dispute just how cute the humanoid machine is. Its creator Masahiro Fujita, who called it "him" instead of "it", seemed to feel genuinely guilty as he pushed it over to show how easily it gets back up. "I don't like this," he said. But while Sony, the world's largest consumer electronics maker, may have su…

Here my idea for an amp. An amplifier about 80 to 100watt RMS made of quaility amplification technology preferably valve, combo. Equipped as part of the amp or as a seperate package. A sine wave invertor and about 2 to 4 to 6+ hour current supply parralel wired battery cells. Also integrated with a charger for auto-charging when in AC 240V mains. All these parts are off the self, a seperate package minus the amp could probably fuel a 4 piece band. 2-4-6+ hours continuous. So get out your Jungle boogie cuz, we're gonna have a party. What do you think?

I've been working on an idea that an empty universe needs energy to sustain itself. To have three infinite dimensions of empty space, eg. pre big bang, would take energy to keep from collapsing into a non-point. I need a device to make some measurements to prove it. First a question. If I take a piston in a cylinder sleeve with perfect ring seals into the vacuum of space, can I pull the piston down in the cylinder creating a vacuum as large as I want and let go without the piston being pushed back because the pressures should be equal on top and bottom? Just aman

I've been playing around with ideas on how to find natural mediums on Earth that might record sound as a way to hear into the past. Since T Edison made a device that cut a uniform growing groove that in the presence of sound, incorporated the sound in the groove, then other natural growing mediums might incorporate sound as they grow at a speed and size compatable with sound freq. One idea might be to see if a human hair which grows continuously lays down its structure as it hardens near the root with sound incorporated which might be read with an electron microscope. Sample hairs could be calibrated with sounds and entered into a data base. Sound through the skull…
