I seem to recall Firefox running on XP supports Flash natively. Even if it doesn't, that's what? Two minutes inconvenience for months or years of superior browsing?

Isn't there an option to do something similar when you install Mozilla?

Rubbish. I've got both of them sat in front of me. Disable the favourites bar in firefox and you're set. The tabs use a few pixels more, but it's really not noticeable.

yes it is. the first thing i did was to disable the fav and stat bar anyway. i like my space BIG. but the tabs take too much space in my opinion. and there should be a close button in each tab. rather tthan on the right.

What screen res are you using?

any. not that i am defending IE or anything. I am sure once Firefox gets popular there will be more an more security holes found . once everyone turns their magnifying glasses on the source (its open for god's sake), and then we will have to migrate to another less known but more secure browser.

 

Another baffling thing is that tabbed browsing i think is off by default. which makes having it a bit pointless,

with most computers in the world running both of the above mentioned software, it is inevitable that hackers will try to find loop holes in such software.

True, but the difference here is that Mozilla will close the holes instead of randomly ignoring them or patching them after the attacks are underway.

Plus, it's pretty easy to find these holes because the source is open to everyone. This also means that when holes are found, someone can quickly submit a patch to fix the problem.

Don't forget to get the essential extensions listed in one of these ff threads! AdBlocker is essential.

I upgraded to 1.0 and haven't had any problems. There are a few extensions that aren't compatible (yet) like the Picture Zoom extension, but they'll get there.

firefox doest seem to be opening when clicking on the desktop shortcut. anyway my bro tried to install firefox on his powerbook. but it just messed up. but still I will be using it on my laptop. when i get it back from repair.

Best bet is to junk the application settings (in the "Application Data" folder) or just try a couple reinstalls.

You should upgrade to Panther

Lately I'm having a problem accessing certain features here at SFN (smilies, quote tags, hyperlink buttons, etc). Is this a problem with my upgrade to Firefox 1.0 or are others having similar problems?

I have FF and I don't have problems... I don't know, goofy things have happened to me here before.
