An Alternative Election Poll - Channel 4

Hello everyone,

 

I hope you don't mind me crashing your forum, but I wish to poll Scientists with regards the upcoming election.

 

I work for a television production company called Zeppotron and we are currently in the process of producing the 'Alternative Election Show', which as the name suggests, is an alternative perspective on the election.

 

Broadcast live on channel 4 on the night of the polls the show will feature a mix of the countries top comedians alongside respected political commentators.

 

One item that we are keen to feature is a selction of polls from different people in society. I have been tasked to poll everyone from Cab drivers to hairdressers, goths to gardeners. Very simply we will present the findings as

 

"When asked 25% of txi drivers said they would vote for the Liberal Democrats".

 

We also would like to poll scientists. In order to conduct the poll i have set up a simple online link that allows people to vote anonymously. It takes 5 seconds and simply asks particpants to click on whatever party they intend to vote for. No personal data is requested.

I would really appreciate it if any Scientists on this forum takes part in the poll. It's proving slightly more tricky than i anticipated, can anyone also recommend any places that I can send the link to?? Any advice would be great!

 

I've also gained permission for the site administrator - Cap'n Refsmmat to post on here as don't want to come accross as a spammer!!

Only a real scientist would be smart enough to ask that question.

You will have to define scientist carefully. Do they need to be affiliated with a university? But what about those working in industry R&D? Should they be affiliated with a scientific society, like the IOP or LMS? Or should you simply say that they should be professional, that is have been paid to do science? Maybe just an undergraduate degree is enough? Or maybe a PhD is needed? Must have a published article? Something else and/or combinations of the above?

 

Then as John as said, how do you confirm this?

It turns out that a friend of a friend of mine is also a researcher for this show.

 

Go on! Help a friend of a friend of someone you see writing stuff on the net.

 

As far as I can tell they count anyone who thinks of them self as a scientist Not a rigorous definition, but an easy one.
