I remember I used to go on there but then I forgot about it. And when I was on, no one was ever on.

Hmm. I think part of the problem is that people go on and then just don't wait for someone else to come on if nobody's in, so people just end up leaving.

 

I'll make a plea to the general community now: PLEASE get on IRC and stay put while you're online; that way we're bound to get more than a few people staying around at any one time. It doesn't waste hardly any bandwidth, and it's a fun way to chat in realtime to the other guys on the forum.

 

Maybe if nobody's there, just get a friend or two to come on or something, because I'd like to see the IRC room grow quite a bit.

Can't we have it like we did before, where it's based in the browser instead of in a seperate program?

We're working on it. I've posted something in the mod forum to blike about setting it up.

I thought we shared a room with the physics forums...

Well we did, but that kindof fell through the floor. The network was crappy and nobody ever turned up in there. At least this way we have control over the channel, not PF.

Okay, #sfn is officially up: quartz is our little bot that sits and keeps the place open. Doesn't have many features, but he does have a google search facility.

 

In IRC, type "quartz google your phrase here" to display the first result from the google search of "your phrase here". Alternatively, use: "quartz google 7 your phrase here" to display the 7th result, and so on...

 

I'm going on holiday now, and I expect to see a full IRC room when I get back Hope you all enjoy the bot, see you in a couple weeks.

And why the heck don't people USE THE CHAT! Hardly anybody is on! Whenever I'm on there's only 2 or 3 others online.

Yesterday got quite active at one point, so it's getting better.

I suppose it will take a while for users to notice it.

Although yourdadonapogos says that it would not let him connect (with the Java applet) so I wonder what's going on.

I told him to get mIRC.

I suppose more people are using it if there are 12 online and only 2 on chat, right?

It's not a member here. It's someone who says he found this site by browsing and didn't want to register.

I don't trust him much.

He was asking me a bunch of questions about me and where I live and all that.

I don't like that.

Dave, I`ve tried a few different clients, and they all do the same, and it`s only happening to me?

 

all other networks seem to work just fine (Undernet, Arcnet etc...)

 

is it a DOS attack maybe? like some some kind of ping flood?
