Works ok for me

Does anyone have problems with the quote function? I can quote an entire post using the button underneath, but when I select just a snippet out of the post, I no longer get the option of just quoting that snippet…?

That happens to me on occasion (Safari on ipad/iOS) but I suspect it’s a browser issue. Also with editing - I sometimes can’t save when I’m finished. Reloading the page often fixes the issues.

One thing I have noticed however. If I select a quote, the quote option does not always appear.

If I move the page up or down so my selection disappears, then move it back so I can see it, the quote option is there!

I found this accidentally and put it down to my cheap Lenovo tablet.

Unfortunately neither of these suggestions work for me - I’ve tried on Safari, Opera, Chrome and Firefox, scrolled and reloaded, but the partial quote button never appears.

I haven’t actively posted here in a while (the flood of AI-generated posts/answers we’ve been seeing have spoiled the fun for me), but last time I did, this still worked fine :/

More reason to stay, post and call Ai crap out.

We're still trying to develop policy on this. There's room for the technology here if it's used to help someone express their thoughts more clearly. Unfortunately, we see a lot of folks who misunderstand it, and think the AI is taking the seed of their idea and turning into scientific reality, math and references included.

I hope you'll bear with us. We need you to help keep it fun.

I know, and I’m not at all blaming the mods here - I think you’re all doing a fantastic job :) It’s just a sign of the times I guess.

Sure I will, I’ve no intention of disappearing, it’s just that I find it frustrating that everyone is suddenly the new Einstein, just because whatever LLM they’re using is designed to not outright tell them that their ideas are nonsensical. Science cranks have always been around, but since LLMs came along the issue has taken on a different quality - it often looks like they know what they are talking about, while in fact they don’t understand much of the subject matter, because they’ve never taken the time to study it in-depth. It’s just harder and more frustrating to debunk, because these LLMs are good at talking people into having the perception that they’re onto something, with superficially plausible-looking maths and all, even if they’re not. At least in the old days, the maths weren’t quite as easy to come by, you needed to actually make a real effort to develop it - nowadays, Lagrangians and tensor equations are a dime a dozen, even if they’re meaningless.

Yes but the posters who use them, think we cannot work out they have used it.

We can.

"Ok but I'm just using LLM to put my brilliant idea disproving Einstein into an acceptable format."

Stay with us, you are a good poster and I'm just a newbie!

Greetings, fellow Lenovan. I get the same thing. On mine, I can just shift the page slightly and the snippet quote thing appears. On a side note, this humble tablet is the most durable device I've ever owned. I've dropped it hard enough the screen gets all messed up, yet it always fixes with a factory reset (which I can do because I don't store many PDFs or photos on it).

When this issue happens to me, it’s often after my initial attempt to highlight the text went outside the border of the text editor window. If I select just one word dead center of the text then expand what’s included manually from there, that seemed to help… at least for me when I encountered this. Good luck either way

Thanks, but unfortunately that quote thingy never appears for me at all, not even for a single dead-Center word selection :/

Durable yes. It freezes a lot though.
