  1. i understand that the definition of the universe is everything... but thats only because its everything we can observe and infer right? so another universe contradicts everything that defines it, but maybe its just way beyond our comprehension. i dont think that means we can rule it out tho. if we werent capable of observing anythig beyond our solar system, that would be our universe... we could say the forces from further space are just the laws of our universe. the planets revolve just because thats just the way our universe works. so using this as kind of an analogy, wouldnt the mere fact that we have constant forces in our universe imply that there is a force acting upon it entirely? or is this just a naive thought. as above, so below.. i d ont think space time should cancel out this idea... i know science is only what we can prove but i think this is an interesting thoughr
  2. okay so youre saying yes, it can be psychological, but because of the fact that it usually comes from birth it is usually not brought on by anything... which points to the fact that it probably originates from a neurological discrepancy? i see, thats a good point. so symptoms of biid might occur in a transplant but its not biid because its not originating from adolescence? until we have a cause for biid, i cant assume or correlate it with what might occur in a brain transplant.
  3. So if not everyone who is diagnosed with BIID has neurological damage like you're saying, then neurological damage isn't necessary for BIID... then it can still occur without transplanting a brain that shows differences in the parietal cortex. If BIID is not an innate problem stemming from the same neurological difference in all people who have it, if the neurological difference is not the cause, if we don't even know the cause, then my argument on how a surgery can bring on BIID is right. Neurological differences in the parietal cortex are another symptom of BIID, not a cause.... therefore there is no reason why someone with a healthy brain transplanted into them couldn't develop BIID.
  4. Children can definitely be hurt. Especially if their bodies aren't developed to have sex yet. Also, if their brains aren't fully developed, they can't make a proper decision for themselves.... if they contract a disease they will have to pay for it later, as an adult, because no one interfered and protected the child's well being. Children shouldn't be able to make life changing decisions at such a young age because their brains aren't developed. Morally, it is wrong. It's like signing a contract while blind.
  5. ok so what part of the brain causes BIID in everyone with this disorder? so I know next time...
  6. Why don't you believe in parallel universes? Just out of curiosity. I just feel like humans haven't been around very long, and we've already observed so many things about our universe. Wouldn't it be kind of disappointing if there wasn't more?
  7. It also goes on to say, "Exact causes for BIID are unknown."
  8. I think the universe spins, too. & since it's proven to be flat, if it is expanding, while spinning, it would create a spiral shape, right? which is implying something weird.... that it's actually in motion through an area of non space time.
  9. Stuck up posters. That's great, you're educated, that's a lot more than I can say about myself, but I'm sorry, you'd have nothing to memorize and fuel your pompous attitude with if it weren't for speculation & some good uninhibited, creative discussion…. everything we know didn't just pop out of nowhere. Plus, this is a forum, free for anyone to join… we're not here discussing tomorrow's experiments at the large hadron collider where we work. (p.s. if you do work there, and are reading my stupid rant, please turn off your computer and get back to that). so chill out.
  10. I don't think there's anything wrong with this post. The person has good intentions & they're not trying to sell any products.... it is a little random but I don't think they're breaking any rules... Maybe this is a young student; excited about research they drew up for a presentation on acne & wanted to share it with others. Maybe this is someone foreign who doesn't precisely understand how a forum board typically works. Why are we shunning an informational post? Anyone in the scientific field, any grad-level researcher like you should especially want to promote the spread of information.
  11. is the presence of science & the absence of a scientifically proven god, ironically proof of his existence? What if there are laws of the universe that supersede the ones we have established in the portion of it we are able to observe? Things beyond our comprehension. How do we know the laws we have established are the truth? If god says to do something against our will, against science, against the bible... do we do it just because he says so? Drop all we know to serve god? Is life about understanding OR submitting to god, despite all of our knowledge. Is it about showing complete devotion to god, despite the fact that we may be as knowledgeable, just because he is omnipotent? Will we be bestowed with his gifts only when we show complete submission- even if his directions go against science? Take the story of Adam & Eve, God instructed them NOT to eat the apple, even though it appealed to their curiosity and desire for knowledge. Maybe it would make them more god-like & intelligent, but God told them NOT to do so, which was the real test. It doesn't matter, the apple may hold truths, but God said no... which is the point. If God told us not to eat a rotten apple, we would understand why, because it wouldn't make sense. So God asking us to do something that DOESN'T make sense is the only way to test our true faith in his word. Maybe we must first prove our devotion before we can attain true wisdom. If god were to establish his power over a less intelligent race who understood nothing about their surroundings, they would willingly forfeit to his faith, because they would have no understanding of him, he would seem like a powerful magician of sorts.... creating & destroying things, manipulating the laws around him... but they would have no understanding of it at all. however, we as humans, understand the laws and how to manipulate them too. there is no need for god. is this purposeful? to see if we will still have faith in god even when we no longer need an omnipotent force to explain why things are the way they are? are we being tested? We're set up in this world, with observable laws, given the Bible, given all of this knowledge that makes us think we understand it all. But if God said it was all a bunch of bullshit, would you accept that, just because he is powerful over us? So many things can be proven with science, is that the point of it existing? So we focus so much on our own attainment of knowledge that we get blinded & can't see the real truth, that we are beneath god? what about the story of Satan.. he was punished for his pride. "Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. "I TIMOTHY 3:6 Not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil." LUKE 4:5 Then the devil, taking him up on a high mountain, showed him all the kingdoms of the worldin a moment of time. 6 And the devil said to him, "All this authority I will give you, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish." blah blah blah numerous, predictable quotes from the bible that we've all heard before. How do we know we aren't creating our faith based on the wrong reasons? Building a magnificent mansion on feeble stilts? It's not just about action, it's about the intention behind it as well. are we made in gods image so we don't separate our power over his? are we oblivious to the fact that regardless of how intelligent we get, he will still be above us? Perhaps the pathway to stupidity & sin is bejeweled with the temptation of power & intelligence over others? Maybe the path to true power & true understanding is through devotion to something more powerful.
  12. Bing, I got you covered. Things I love.... I love the specific shade of green everything turns after it rains. I love the little window in my shower in this strange, tiny apartment... if I shower at a certain time of day there are an uncountable amount of rainbows all around me. I love the stars... and how my terrible day just disappears when I simply look into the night sky & remember how small I am. I love iced coffee, it's my daily vice. Even in the winter. Hot beverages make me nauseous.
  13. would you please try supporting your bizarre theories? I don't see any evidence that proves grocery stores exist. please attach sources. THIS IS A SCIENCE FORUM.
  14. ooh lala! a fellow piscean east coaster.

  15. supports my argument here. I'm gonna get an off-topic warning in 2.5 seconds.
  16. there might not be a gene for ugliness, but estrogen contributes to women's attractiveness to men. http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/news/archive/2005/Title,43012,en.html
  17. This isn't a personal dilemma, is it? It's a trap! Lol.
  18. I honestly have no idea. but that would be incredible. I would like to do that with dreams, since mine are usually so absurd & indescribable in words. I think that it could be possible. If we can recall a memory, then it has to be stored somehow in our brain, and there must be a way of tracing it & possibly recreating it. but what's weird is, I think a memory is vivid, but when I try to recall random specifics, I can't. basically, in day to day life in reality, I see what's around me & get an emotion from it. in my mind, it's the opposite. I really just have a feeling about the past situation that triggers the visuals tied to it. are your memories THAT vivid that you think you could recreate them into a video? mine aren't
  19. do you mean putting a memory on a medium like film, exactly how you see it in your mind? or somehow transferring the memory directly to someone? that would be cool.
  20. It's not saying obsessive love is a syndrome. Yes, it's an idea from a book by some dude. The person who posted this question was looking for a term for a situation, not a diagnosis. & I don't think there's anything normal about becoming infatuated & in love with a random person who you've had little interaction with.... which is why I suggested looking up attachment disorders. The person who posted this may not be listing all of the symptoms, so at least I was giving them a step in the right direction, especially when they're having difficulty coming up with phrasing... that's why I said "maybe try googling" to see if that's what they were looking for. I also don't see anything wrong with wikipedia when it lists sources. I was trying to be a catalyst towards more information, not trying to diagnose the situation. Just trying to help.
  21. oh, that's interesting. maybe it's true! a deep sea artist, alone in her watery universe. how sad :'(
  22. maybe try googling attachment disorders? This is the best I could find =/ http://en.wikipedia..../Obsessive_love "The initial phase of ORP is characterized by an instantaneous and overwhelming attraction to another person. It is at this point the relationally dependent person becomes dependant on a romantic interest, usually resulting from the slightest bit of attention from the person they are attracted to."
  23. lol, I see plenty of evidence on these triassic mona lisa's but no evidence about their culprit. kraken's don't exist. so.... neither does their artwork.
