  1. But BID is a psychological disorder & not proven to be because of neurological damage yet.... it could be brought on by "not accepting your new appearance" after a surgery (stress induced), like with face transplants, as you mentioned.
  2. Even if we have the technology to connect the brain nerves & the body doesn't reject it, there would probably be a whole lot of issues following... maybe body integrity disorder? If our body doesn't match the internal map we have stored in our parietal cortex, it may never adjust. The brain is one of the first things to develop in the embryo.... http://www.bbsrc.ac.uk/news/health/2010/100715-pr-part-brain-tracks-limbs-discovered.aspx
  3. http://www.taliscope.com/Sator_en.html Was the sator square difficult to construct? All of these words create a palindrome, make a sentence, and add up to 10 using the alphabet (along with all of the other patterns). Could we easily recreate something like this? Since "arepo" appears nowhere else in Latin literature, it could have been created to complete this palindrome.... therefore maybe it's not as incredible as it appears to be. What are your thoughts? I still find it fascinating.
  4. there are correlations between how someone sleeps & their personality type. http://news.bbc.co.u...lth/3112170.stm since our personality can influence our position while lying down, maybe it can work the other way around? if we're forced to recline in a naturally vulnerable position, without our hands subconsciously giving signals & without using our normal body language, then we do have some sort of loss of control over our usual movements... perhaps this also transfers into our thought processes at the time....
  5. in my opinion omnipotent god is everything... the universal balance. sin, logic, emotion... violence, benevolence. every possible outcome, every state, chaos and incarnation. the balance is everything, so its really not observable beyond the fact that it is everything. but i think there are specific energies that influence us to keep the balance. just like there are original elements, rays of color, there are individual forces that can be differentiated, aka subdivisions and different aspects of god.
  6. Isn't nonlocality something we've just observed in SOME particles? We don't understand it yet... so I don't think we can harness it to use with cellphones.
  7. Well, it's been shown in studies that men's brains are more adept at visualizing shapes & measurements in their head... We are naturally attracted to those different from us- from how they smell to how they act, what they look like... it's so when we reproduce we have a more diverse gene pool to make more improved babies. I think naturally there will always have to be innate differences between women & men. Men aren't any more advanced, they're just different. I also think it's a social thing. You don't necessarily have to be raised in a family where you're told; "you're a woman. you must do this, not do that.." etc... but if you're raised in a family where gender is emphasized, you separate yourself from the opposite sex & their tendencies whether it's subconsciously or not (IMO). The definitions of masculine & feminine are fueled by our natural urge to breed... a strong man can protect a family, a kind & maternal woman can nurture a family.... but I really think this is primitive. We all have ideas & thoughts separate of the influence of our gender. But before I get way off topic, my point is that I think the reason men dominate the engineering field is based on physical differences & society's stereotypes.
  8. Yea, you tell 'em Fuzzwood.
  9. I've teetered back & forth with this topic lately, however, I've personally come to the conclusion that there is a creator. Everything we know, science & mathematics, is pretty relative... it's like each solar system is a little pocket in the universe with it's own set of rules. It's like dipping a plank into a pond- it's image is distorted.... I think the truths of the universe are distorted here. Just like a thought is behind an idea which materializes, I think our existence had to have an original "thought" so to speak... but I think we are unable of comprehending what this "thought" is... so we have to put it in layman's terms and attribute human like qualities to it... such as the "god" we speak of in the Bible. I think our world is beautiful. It's specific... why do the birds sing? Sure, there are scientific facts such as attracting mates, but it resonates with us as humans.... flowers show magnificent colors, the shade of light at dawn can make us feel something incredible. I once read somewhere that we are attracted to music here on Earth because it's similar to the music in heaven- I don't think the author wanted this to be taken literally, it's symbolic of why we love the beauty around us here... I think every feeling we have here is a glimpse of an eternal feeling- which is why it resonates with us. One of my favorite quotes is from a Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery; "the stars are beautiful because of a flower that cannot be seen." The more in depth & advanced we get with science, the less explanation we have for what makes us human, why we aren't robots. And that brings us closer to our "maker".... we are creative beings, unlike any other on this planet. We feel love, we create these incredible cities, amazing technologies.... So if something made us, we are just like him. We understand his mathematics, his laws, his beauty.
  10. If a tsunami is coming so quickly that you don't have time to evacuate, then the earthquake probably did a lot of damage too.... earthquakes are the problem....
  11. Couldn't the dependency of "some people" affect society as a whole? So therefore, she is on topic. For example, in Russia, alcoholism is so bad that many are driven to suicide. Fathers leave their women & children, families are destroyed, populations of ethnic groups dwindle. It's clear that alcoholism of one person can affect many others. What about alcohol related car accidents where people are killed? Of course that affects society. That's like saying a murderer is no danger to society. If the person wasn't consuming alcohol, they probably wouldn't have killed someone. There will ALWAYS be 2 sides to an argument, shades of black and white, it's just discerning which is more prevalent. Overall, I think the negative aspects of alcohol FAR outweigh the positive.
  12. Lolita by Nabokov, the Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery, the Rosicrucian Cosmo-Conception by Max Heindel. I like Poe & Dante as well.
  13. Alcohol affects our natural state & alters our thinking. Even if you can handle alcohol, it's the product of decay and I don't think we should consume it.

    Help

use the cardboard and make a big glider. I would take advantage of the fact that it can land further than 20 ft.
  15. Thank you so much, Tar. Your response is what actually helped develop mine, so now we can see the topic of this post is coming into play..... in itself! Lol. You are very right, with one development we are led to another... the cool thing is how brilliant & different every mind is. Without our individuality we wouldn't be progressing so quickly, in my opinion. And those giants are never forgotten, so many men have spent their lives studying the stars, the universe- with such limited resources, and laid the path for scientists today.
  16. I think one of the most beautiful things about being human is our ability to make decisions. Computers work based on what they're told to do, they have a preset reaction to things, and everything they do is predicted since we decide it. No matter how advanced we get with technology, I don't think we will ever be able to recreate the peculiar aspects that drive us to make decisions. As humans, we are constantly balancing emotion & logic. We don't eat that extra piece of chocolate cake because we know we shouldn't overindulge and poison our body with excess food- using logic over a passionate, bodily-driven emotion. However, emotions are important as well, because they allow us to have empathy and help others. In my opinion, this hastens evolution, because through compassion we, for example, keep others from making the same mistakes we did. Society errs from enjoying gladiators killing each other at a coliseum and other pursuits are delved into.... such as technology & science! We become more compassionate and less animalistic. Also, what's peculiar about humans is our ability to create. Every idea is based off a previous one. We create more advanced versions of a previous, similar model. True genius is being able to come up with a very advanced, innovative idea based on where we are standing.... and many humans have demonstrated this quality. As for WHY decisions are made in history, I think everything follows a pattern, it's probably just too complicated for us to perceive.... we would have to observe events & when they occur over a very long period of time to record a pattern to make predictions from. Hopefully I was on the right track with your topic =p
  17. It depends on how you define love. Love isn't a measurable thing, it's up to your own perception. Maybe to some love is passion, nurturing and intense feelings... therefore, indifference would be the opposite of love. Often times immense hatred comes from being denied/rejected, or from secretly being jealous of someone out of admiration... which is not indifference. So I don't see hatred as being the opposite of love, I think it actually stems from the same place. That's how I see it at least.
  18. I'm not really too familiar with physics or science in general, so please excuse the fact that some of these questions might be elementary or just plain dumb... I'm sure you get a lot of these! a. Is the third dimension essentially the addition of time? doesn't depth slow the speed of light, causing time? how would light act in a 2D world? b. If we take a 2D shape, and apply it to a 3D model, such as squares to a cube, are we doing the same with a tesseract? applying 3D models into a 4D model, like the 3D object is a face of the tesseract? can we use this simple structure to conclude anything about time and perhaps infer something about the 4th dimension? What I've really been thinking about is this; take our 3D whole universe and have it be represented as a 3D cube. Now take that cube, and apply it to a tesseract. In this proposed system, wouldn't that mean that our whole 3D existence is being put into motion and changing, which would prove that we have multiple universes coexisting? BASICALLY I'm just trying to figure out what exactly is happening in a tesseract.... I'm not clever enough to understand it yet, haha. c. If we went the speed of light, and our physical form allowed it, would we be conscious of everything all at once? and if we were capable of slowing down to not moving at all, would we be in a state of complete unconscious? d. If the universe is constantly outwardly expanding, is there a core of the universe that gets more dense, or something like that? what I mean is, is there some kind of reverse effect because of the expansion? e. If energy cannot be created or destroyed, is that just relative to our surroundings? or is it true even with the big bang? thank youuuuu.
