  1. From water column, the pressure at 1 mile depth is only 2360 psi
  2. I read the infamous well in the gulf flowed with 6000 psi What causes such high pressure? Is the weight of the earth crust squeezing the petroleum filled pockets down, compressing it ?
  3. That is no news at all. Nanosolar has been producing its inky film cells for several years now. The last time I checked 3? years ago, if someone across the street from their offices wants too buy the product; they will not sell to anyone as they contracted full production with Germany. Check their web site and youtube showing the machinery. So even local californians have to buy chinese or other sources at the higher price. What good is in it ? The city I live in was considering to implement some solar panels and they did not know that existing lower costs are there but unreachable to even locals. The 'wonderful' corporate world and their tricks. Inventing something good you cannot use. An announcement from today, some development success in solar cells that convert solar light and heat (that up to now is detrimental) to electricity, increasing efficiency. ---> http://www.dailytech.com/Stanford+Solar+Tech+Promises+to+Surpass+Even+the+Best+Silicon+Panels/article19239.htm
  4. Revenge seems to be the mother of evil and wars, perhaps we can sense some of it in higher primates, but in general, other lower forms of life acting such behavior among same/other species seems rare; perhaps is very tied to memory and some sort of thinking, planning, strategy, with a lot of influence from the most powerful being the winner/survivor and the evolutive building of defenses... If snakes always take say rats lives, rats do not seem to revenge attacking/defending the 'opressor' species, but perhaps they could jump to a snake neck and bite to death Hmmm... animals do not have wars... Wolves <--> hienas, they behave more like competitors than trying to exterminate each other.
  5. What happened to the gadolinium refrigerator that seemed promising about ten years ago, has any improvement been achieved ? What is the current status/progress, does anyone know ?
  6. This topic I really did not know where to post... perhaps here ? Do animals practice revenge ? In the wild, do confrontations among animals end later in what we know as vengeance or is it something only humans practice ? I cannot find examples...
  7. Thanks Danijel ! Understand now; an offset portion of the parabola is still parabolic and will have the focus away from the axis.
  8. Hello. Well known, x2= 4py : http://dy185677.en.ec21.com/C_180_Cm_Satellite_Dish--2988376_3112840.html has the focus at its axis, and the axis aims direct to the radio sorce, as learned decades ago. But this one has the focus offset from the axis : http://www.bikudo.com/product_search/details/13760/satellite_dish_antenna.html Is the radio source not collinear with its axis ? How does the latter aiming works? Is there any ray-tracing graph on the web for an offset focus parabola you can link please ? Never came across that second version in my years of analytical geometry For both antennas, the focal point is, that, a point. If the radio source drifts position but the antenna does not track, does the focal describe a line ? How to calculate/determine the line ? (path of focal point)
  9. A site that has a different point of view about electricity and I suggest when this question comes up, is : ---> http://amasci.com/miscon/whatis.html Hope it will not confuse you more.
  10. Or better said, the hen and the egg. All living creatures go to a great extent in conserving energy, finding food and not wasting resources is an activity that takes most of their time. Non-fertile eggs laid by hens are a huge waste of resources, food and energy. Is there an explanation, please ?
  11. Hello. This is related to my post #43 above. Attaching image links as a workaround to what I was trying to explain, as cannot discern the way to insert pictures. This shows me logged in at right upper corner with message of not being able to access.. ---> And in this one cannot find the "Attachments" option : ---> Hope this post will show up Thank you, Captain.
  12. Hello and thanks for the improvement of the forum and all the effort behind it. There is a weird behavior: Logged in (right top on the image) get the message of being unable to access . - Running Linux- A snapshot of the screen attached. Oooops; another one. Trying to insert or attach the image mentioned above, from the options "Insert image" and "insert media" I get no choice to browse my compfuser contents to select the image
  13. Hi. Attached, this is a sketch I made about the contraption as was explained to me. Sorry, unable to rotate ccw ¿? But a viewer can. gyrospin2.pdf
  14. WOW !! Thanks. An attempt to convert torques to upward forces ? Do you know of some explanation/theory on the web ? That is weird !
  15. A solution of baking soda does foam if in contact with the sulphates corroding the metal. But in dry felt-impregnated powder form, to my humble knowledge, don't think so. Battery acid (wet) and dry baking soda probably does too. A liquish is needed to make bubbles.
  16. Thanks. Yes, grease, vaseline, wax and several commercial sprays are available, all of them by coating the metals to protect. But those felt washers do work apparently only by 'being present' That is what draws my curiosity. Robert mentions something I did not take in account before, the gap between the case and posts blocked by the felt as a barrier to acid leak activity. Still unsure if plain baking soda is the inhibiting agent in them.
  17. Thanks. Am sorry for my poor English, will try to scan a sketch and attach here for clarity. There is no bicycle, there is 'gyroscopes' turning while spinning.
  18. Hi. In simple and superficial terms, those huge cost$ from Afghanistan and Irak operations, where does the money ends ? Is all the salaries of military personnel ending in USA citizens pockets? The war machinery aircraft, battleships, war tanks, trucks... made in USA, ends in USA contractors, factories, workers pockets ? Weaponry, ammunition, made in USA, ends in USA factories profits ? I do not think they are imported from China... yet. The suply chain for food, equipment, transportation, construction of facilities, varied services for the armed forces, ends in USA nationals commercial operators ? With the exception of fuel to run machinery overseas, and perhaps some small local war zone expenses, labor, translators, etc; is the war economics staying in USA pockets ? Is all the noise about how the USA funds are depleted from these wars mostly noise ?
  19. Do you know what exactly is that 'oily' inhibitor compound ? Those felts do not feel oily at all.
  20. Hi Paul. I have original sets of MS DOS 6.0 and 6.2 diskettes. If you guide me precisely on how to attach them to emails, I could gladly send them to you. If you only have one compfuser, a simple way is to find an extra hard drive where you will load DOS and swap connectors to hard drives when you want to play with it. (Am running Linux Ubuntu now)
  21. When I was a kid, a mechanical engineer explained me a contraption he built. Said it self destroyed in test. From what I remember, will be difficult to explain with no sketch, but, trying : A horizontal cross, equal lenght arms, being the arms outer ends the shafts of say 4 equal bicycle wheels there. The cross assembly made to turn very fast on top of a vertical shaft motor, and the top tangent side of the bicycle tires contact a disc plate above, making the wheels spin. It had something to do with gyroscopic forces... Seemed he was happy with the brutal forces it developed causing its destruction. What could be he was trying to do ?
  22. Nice graphics and animations ! The engine may be 40 years late, and has no perimeter seals. Thermal expansion can be a big brake. Lubrication and cooling are to consider too. It will take a lot of effort putting it to work reliably and to meet current regulations, but go for it !
  23. Is there any type of cell or material that when alpha or beta or gamma rays strike it produces an electrical current directly ?
  24. Read somewhere that the felt pads placed on car battery posts were impregnated in baking soda. Baking soda works extremely well in removing corrosion formations, but for prevention, something does not 'click' These work very well; what are they impregnated with ? It is not dusty, it is not oily, it is not wet : http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/Fall2008/battery/felt_ring.jpg And they have lasted many years in my cars doing an excellent work.
  25. Hollywood fake ! Thanks God and thanks ydoaPs ! Can this thread be deleted please ? Does not belong to any science.
