  1. I didn’t say it has collapsed. But it is being damaged and not repaired. To undersell the danger is dangerous and also leads to inaction. The No Kings rallies yesterday show that people aren’t walking away. But the media coverage of them is pathetic (and the parade coverage by the NYT and WaPo too fawning), and that’s one more hurdle that needs to be overcome. Awareness is still too low, and most media are being stenographers relaying a narrative vs reporters giving us facts.
  2. Which is irrelevant at this point, since Trump has already been elected. And we have ICE, refusing to show badges and faces But by the time that happens, it will be too late to recover using existing systems. It’s like saying, “not to worry, since the knife hasn’t yet reached a vital organ” Enough norms have broken, and since Trump appears to have ~270 accomplices in congress, a majority of SCOTUS and has installed cronies at the top of all the government (with the help of his accomplices), what’s to stop him from causing more systemic failure? (that’s already been threatened)
  3. They can post here, and get some informal peer-review. Odds are that there will be some holes in it that will be pointed out.
  4. No, but they did not support Harris, either. Exit polls suggest a lot of votes went to Stein. Siphoning off votes helped Trump. https://www.cair.com/press_releases/cair-exit-poll-of-muslim-voters-reveals-surge-in-support-for-jill-stein-and-donald-trump-steep-decline-for-harris/

  6. Moderator NoteThat’s more than enough with the insults. The delusional bits aren’t strictly against the rules, AFAICT, but IMO you should get professional help. ChatGPT isn’t a he. It’s not alive, nor intelligent. Locked, and don’t bring this up again.
  7. Not even everyone on this site agrees. You’re making lots of sweeping statements with absolutely zero backing to them. Perhaps it’s time to stop digging and distracting.
  8. Depends on what “geometrical base volume” and “geometrical density multiplier” mean. Volume has a definition, as does density. Density is p= m/V, so pV is mass, by definition, so it had better make sense.
  9. You are free to decide the earth is ~10k years old. Nobody is stopping you. The determination from science is quite different. That they are incompatible is not the decision of anyone, it’s simply a fact that the numbers disagree. Science has the credibility of tremendous success on its side. You don’t control how you move? Sorry about that, but that’s not typical. Why we have pain and how we heal are things that we can investigate scientifically, and have done so extensively.
  10. Psycho666 has been banned for re-opening a closed thread, ignoring the rules on AI content, and abusing the report post function.
  11. A) no, that wasn’t the claim, and B) You didn’t share them, so we have only your word on that, and that’s not close to being enough.
  12. Requiring evidence is hardly an excuse. Modern science isn’t interested because it’s not evidence, unless (as iNow implies) you come up with a proper definition of a soul. We can study neurological phenomenon, and learn about memory and thought, etc. Science doesn’t impose its view on religion. Religion is free to ignore science (and many of its adherents do so). But it seems that religion (or its adherents) wants the endorsement of science in order to leverage the credibility it has, and no, you don’t get that unless you actually follow the rules of science. Religion is free to try - nobody is stopping it - but, as with any hypothesis, success is not guaranteed. We don’t control gravity, either. That’s not the issue. It’s whether the processes follow rules we can try and determine, and they do.
  13. I believe that was your extrapolation. I just said nazi regime. Sure. And we just emerged from the great recession which was followed by the large impact of COVID. When you significantly cut food or oxygen it takes time for the body to die. Trump has been in office for less than five months. Looking at what Germany did over a period of years isn’t a proper comparison. You have to look at the trajectory, and not assume he’ll stop, because when has he ever?
  14. That’s origins, though. There was an American nazi party in the ‘30s, where there was democracy, and no trauma from losing a war. So those origins conditions, it seems, are not a prerequisite. It’s not a functioning constitutional democracy when courts and constitution are ignored and laws are broken by the government because the ruling party will not enforce them. You seem to be arguing that because it’s not demolished that it’s fully functional. The Germans didn’t take power via a coup, so that’s moot. I’m not trying to frame a message. This is about an assessment, not trying to massage egos of people who might be in denial because they don’t want to face culpability. You’re comparing policies with actions, and, as I pointed out, using the most extreme as the measurement. It’s a flawed appraisal. You don’t have to kill someone to be a psychopath. Was the Holocaust one of the declared tenets of the nazis? But - violent expansion: see threats made to take Greenland and the Panama canal. racial supremacy - expulsion of (mainly) brown-skinned immigrants totalitarian control - ignoring courts and the Constitution. Soldiers in the streets. Dismantling educational and scientific institutions. A military parade. As Gov. Tim Walz recently said, “The road to authoritarianism is littered with people telling you you're overreacting.”
  15. This is what we call an anecdote, but that’s not data. Science needs systematic study, and medical studies need large samples to show efficacy. There also has to be a way to show the effect is real and not a placebo-like effect (working just because you think it works) I wish you good luck in designing and executing such a study.
  16. I think that just because there are no death camps (yet) is a rather myopic view of things. I assume that you’re equally against it when people are labeled as communists/socialists because they did not go as far as Stalin or Mao did? Are the current nazi party members in various countries not actually nazis because they are not in a position to run death camps?
  17. Seems to me the shortest path to the GOP getting past this would be to throw the federal officials involved under the bus and suspend/fire them for being incompetent/overstepping. But if they had been instructed in some way, they likely wouldn’t stay silent about that.
  18. Kids can speak up if they can do so in good faith and add to the conversation, which you admitted to not doing.
  19. I already a locked a similar thread. You don’t get to keep posting it; that will get you banned.
  20. Perhaps you could tone down the BS, then. Grownups are trying to have a conversation.
  21. You’re entitled to your opinion, but the white supremacy, concentration camps, attitude toward opposing speech, arresting/detaining judges and political opponents, dismantling science and government, etc. seems very 1930’s Germany to me.
  22. But the story is science fiction. If you want to base a story on actual science, that’s your prerogative, but you need to understand science a lot better to know what’s feasible and what’s not, and work within that - like the decent job The Expanse does, but even there they don’t get into the details.
  23. No, definitely not. This is the spin some are putting on it, but there’s video, and he identified himself. He did not lunge toward the dais, either. From his statement, he went through security and was escorted into the room earlier, and from photos you can see he was wearing a shirt that identified him as a senator. But even if it didn’t, ICE isn’t showing badges, and they’re covering their faces! He was not arrested, but he was detained. For being a democrat questioning this nazi regime
  24. Where is the evidence that it’s a math error? The implication here is that you’d get ~4.5 billion years if you did the math correctly. Somehow I don’t think that’s the issue.
  25. Archiving is really your job. As would be any submission to journals.
