  1. Out of interest who wrote the 300,000th post?
  2. I too like this painting. 'Bathers at Asnières' is another one of my favourites by Seurat. We used to have a print in our old house but it mysteriously disappeared when we moved.
  3. You don't know how jelous I am. Last winter year where I live, it snowed about two times, settled then just as I was getting excited, melted. Damn English weather, I want to move north.
  4. Cheers 5614 great help. Seems like every torrent is made to confuse me.
  5. So does this apply to all sensory or even motor areas of the cortex. For example, I remember hearing of cases where children who were raised with out any social contact, could not learn to speak as thier Brocca's and Wernike's areas were so underdeveloped. So in the same way, could lack of a certain stimuli at an early age result in neurological Anosmia or Deafness?
  6. No worries, I found I could play the vcd's on windows media so it's all good. Cheers anyway.
  7. hmm I did that but when I click on the new drive in my computer, it just opens up four wierdly named folders each with VCD files which won't open. It's series one of 'the young ones' which I highly recommend to anyone.
  8. I'm a bit annoyed at the moment as I just spent a week downloading a torrent to find it's in a wierd format that I don't know how to work. When I open up the file there's one BIN file that doesnt do much when I click on it, and a 'burn at once icon' which when I open and click 'write' it just says 'current project does not match inserted media'. Anyway i'm bored of clicking random things in the hope it will do something. Does anyone know how to play it?
  9. Check out http://www.hyperdeath.co.uk/chemicals/organic.html It's a good list of common chemicals and where you can buy them.
  10. As far as I understand, certain visual areas of the cortex (i.e. sensory and association) develop rapidly from birth through thier constant stimulation. Anyway, if this is true then what would be the result of surgically removing cataracts from a person who has been blinded from birth. Would these areas slowly redevelop or is there an almost cut off point with neurodevelopment, which would result in the person seeing but having no spatial awareness etc?
  11. Agreed. I would say seratonin but I've just finished reading 'Phenethylamine's I have known and loved' (PIHKAL)..... so yea Phenethylamine all the way. It's an interesting chemical in itself but once you start looking at the whole chemistry of Phenylethylamine derivatives, it's pretty amazing. They include things like anti-depressants, anorectic's, hallucinogens, stimulants, hormones and pretty much all of the neurotransmitters on the original list.
  12. I think the main two things I want to get out of travelling are seeing different cultures and meeting people. What I want to see/do there really depends on the country itself so i couldn't say off hand.
  13. I never really thought about Israel but yea it does sound like an amazing place. I want to travel around as much as possible so I guess if I were to go, it would make sense to go to both Jordan and Syria, maybe Lebannon aswell, although tbh in terms of the safety of travelling in these countries, i'm slightly clueless.
  14. I disagree, going from a purley physical to emotional relationship can work but not vice versa. After breaking up wth someone, it's hard enough to break off emotionaly, but if your screwing them it's inevatable that old feelings will come back. It happened to me with someone who I quite literally spent weeks being bitter about after a bad break up and her being a immature little *insert swearword* and ignoring me. Anyway I later got back with her on a purley 'physical basis' and ended up really confused as I started to forget all the past events. We ended up properly getting back togther for a few days, which ended up unimaginably badly *reaches for voodoo doll*. So yea, might be that I tend to dwell on things too much, but I wouldn't advise it.
  15. Hmm yea i've been thinking about South America for a while now, it sounds like an amazing place, plus the fact that it so cheap would mean I travel for a lot longer. One of my other brothers spent a long time in Bogotá in Columbia which i'd love to visit. According to him people there are the most hospitible in the world as Columbia has next to no tourism, so everybody really appreciates you travelling there. Although the only thing im worried about is that he's like a machine and learnt spanish almost fluently in in a few months, which I could never do. So if I want to go to anywhere non touristy (i.e. Bogotá) i'd be hard pressed meeting anyone. But then again I guess that would be the same in any country. I've also vaugley considering going to Syria after speaking for hours with a family friend who convinced me of its safety, but then again it's the same situation and i'm not sure if i'd be able to cope in an Arabic speaking country on my own. Hmm I guess I just need to sit down and read up on these places.
  16. As recently I’ve been getting slightly bored of where I live/England in general, a few months ago I decided to defer my entry to Uni and take a gap year to go travelling. I’m currently working stupid amount of hours to save up for this but I still need to work out where I’m gonna go. I may travel with a friend but I’d rather have the freedom to go where and do what I want so I will most likely travel by myself. Anyway I’m in desperate need of some inspiration and or tips on travelling so I thought to be great to hear about the places you've travelled to before. What it was like, what was good, what was bad etc?. I'll start. For me, so far Russia was probably the most amazing place I've travelled to, which I went to over the summer to visit/travel with my brother who’s living in Moscow. We spent the first week going north through Moscow, Novgorod and St Petersburg, ending up in lake Ladoga close to the borders of Finland. I then left my brother and spent the last week in Cheboksary in Chuvasia which was slightly daunting as my Russian vocabulary was.. well non existent. Anyway all of the trip was amazing but in particular St Petersburg which I’d loved to go back to. Meeting Russian people also made me realise why people think of the English as being stuffy….they are. It’s only when you meet people who aren’t afraid to show there emotions or speak their mind that you realise it unnecessary polite the English can be. Here’s a few pics I uploaded if anyone wants to see… http://www.flickr.com/photos/73047976@N00/ and …. http://s85.photobucket.com/albums/k80/aj47_01/
  17. A classic one my friend saw was 'bargain basement, upstairs!'

    Dreams

Lol yea it was quite strange, but it was one of those enjoyable dreams where you wake up smiling to yourself. I wish I could remember more but my memory is too fragmented. Whats also wierd is recently within these bizarre dreams, I've dreamt about normal day to day things which I occasionly think really happened. I.e. a few nights ago I went to bed thinking about cashing in a check which then dreamt about. For a few days I forgot about the check as I assumed I had already cashed it. Am I just wierd or does that happen to anyone else?

    Dreams

I dreamt that I was at my old primary school and a group of people were gathered round a wall trying to jump over it. As soon as someone jumped over it they would appear behind me and shake my hand. It was quite bizzare. Ah yes and there was something invoving a lake but thats about all I can remember.

    Stress Relief

It's painful to start with but you soon get the hang of it.

    Stress Relief

Excercise, comedy and stroking cats. IMO it's the perfect combination.
  22. People often make the comparison between sleep deprivation and the effects of alcohol as both tend to depress areas of the prefrontal cortex. The prefrontal cortex is an area of the brain which is invoved rational thinking, judgment, emotion etc so being tired is a lot like being drunk. As a result, when tired you're generally more relaxed, have heightened emotions and I find tend to be more silly which ineffably leads to giggles.
  23. Also why can you only look at new posts since your last visit, not new post in the last day/24 hours/week etc.
