  1. I've seen Channel 4 (UK news) cover the Gaza situation extensively from the Palestinian point of view. They seem to offer a relatively fair lens through which to view these events. This book, Killing in the Name of Identity, is quite good at looking into the collective psychology perpetuating such conflicts.
  2. There were many notable Jewish physicists involved in the Manhattan project: Robert Oppenheimer Ed Teller George Placzek Joseph Rotblat John von Neumann Leo Szilard Otto Frisch Felix Bloch Hans Bethe I found the non-linear temporal format interesting: the black and white representing the present day of the film, the color representing Oppenheimer's subjective memory, the somewhat faded colorization of the security clearance interrogation (which served as the mechanism to connect the story together). The game theory aspect of the saga was most fascinating. They're in a race against the Nazis at first, then that becomes moot when the Germans surrender, but the bomb is done anyway, so Truman proceeds to use it against Japan anyway, to end the war quickly. Supposedly the invasion of Japan was projected to cost 5 million lives (both US and Japanese soldiers, plus Japanese civilians who were prepared for a total mobilization and guerrilla warfare to protect their homeland). I didn't know this, but the fire bombing of Tokyo prior to dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was the most destructive bombing raid in world history, and was on par with the damage caused by the atomic bombs. So it's not like Truman wasn't going to use the bomb if he got it. Nor were the Americans unique in their barbarism during the war. The Axis Power (Germany, Japan, Italy) inflicted some of the worst atrocities of course. Oppenheimer believed though, that the bomb would facilitate a pause in mass global conflict due to its sheer destructive power. On some level he may have been right. Interesting segment here with Oppenheimer:
  3. Saw this recently and thought it was excellent movie. Very interesting to understand more about Oppenheimer's life, worldview, political affiliations, the Manhattan project and all the physicists involved. Anyone else catch it?
  4. Apparently Wagner troops family's were threatened, unsurprisingly.
  5. No to mention Elon Musk is on record saying quite nonchalantly "a whole bunch of people will die", in the process of going to Mars. Downright reckless and contrary to NASA's principles of safety.
  6. I think it was real, not staged. Prigozhin and Wagner were genuinely enraged at being treated so disrespectfully by the Russian Elites on the battlefield. Logical explanation here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2hVaLhUtdM
  7. Avoidable only if Prigozhin keeps an omnipresent Praetorian Guard, but even then...
  8. I'm incredulous that Putin will just move on from this, despite the so called deal that has been struck with Prigozhin. Does anyone believe that Putin will actually honor this agreement? The Kremlin has a long memory; I suspect Prigozhin is on "the list" now.
  9. What about "hull integrity"? Excellent analysis of the Titan's design defects here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaOVYkWgpcM
  10. This article at PM offers further analysis on the engineering of the craft, and how the composition differed from other battle tested submersibles. https://www.popularmechanics.com/science/a44305386/titan-submersible-vs-deepsea-challenger/ Excerpt: "The Deepsea Challenger—made famous by film director and underwater explorer James Cameron—was mostly built with a special syntactic foam, with the crew compartment composed of a steel orb attached to foam beams. “Roughly 70 percent of the vehicle's volume is made up of this foam, which is composed of glass spheres embedded in an epoxy resin and which provides both flotation and structural support for the vehicle,” according to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, which now operates the vessel." "The Titan differed in other ways. Unlike the spherical shape of the Deepsea Challenger that distributed pressure equally, the Titan’s cylindrical shape meant that some parts of the craft were subject to more pressure than others. At a depth of more than two miles beneath the surface, even a small hull breach would cause an instantaneous implosion."
  11. Not hiring 50 year old white guys with decades of submarine experience because they're not "inspirational" Piloting the sub with a Logtech controller that can be used by a 16 year old buying "off the shelf parts" and using an experimental carbon fiber hull For me this a good example of the Overconfidence Bias as outlined by Amos Tversky and Daniel Kahneman. Unfortunately it seems all those years of never being contradicted by yes men went to Stockton's head. Great interview here with James Cameron and Bob Ballard on why the hull failure should have never happened. Since 1960 there has never been an accident of this kind at these depths. It was only when Stockton "got creative" and deviated from decades of proven engineering that this tragedy occurred.
  12. Yes, from both sides of the debate. That's a convenient way to patronize those with a different viewpoint. Frankly, until recently I had reserved judgement on this topic as I didn't have a vested interest one way or the other as to veracity of the UFO/Alien claims. Like many I thought the most logical possibility was that life definitely exists out there somewhere, but had not visited Earth yet. However, unlike you, who refuses to take this topic seriously or objectively review the evidence that is available, I kept an open mind, and based on the weight of the evidence that has been documented, have adjusted my viewpoint. By contrast, it seems to me that you're acting from a position of subjective bias, where you: A.) won't take the topic seriously to begin with B.) won't review the evidence that exists and C.) therefore must trivialize the topic and patronize others who actually have done A and B. So, you can believe you're being objective, but someone who can't seriously investigate a topic or suspend judgement for even a minute can't logically claim to be that.
  13. Important distinction, thanks. Semantics aside - it's a compelling article and yet another reason why NASA should have a significantly bigger budget for missions like this. Missions to land on the surface of Enceladus and somehow drill into the sub-oceans with the goal of launching a deep sea sea submersible similar to DSV ALVIN.
  14. Again, I was just referencing NASA's framing of the discovery. They used the phrase "building block for life" in the headline.
  15. They seem to be suggesting it's a building block for life, which runs contrary to this statement.
  16. I don't disagree. They're presenting Phosphorus as a building block of life, which is all I was pointing out.
  17. NASA would beg to differ... "Phosphorus, the least abundant of the essential elements necessary for biological processes, hadn’t been detected until now. The element is a building block for DNA, which forms chromosomes and carries genetic information, and is present in the bones of mammals, cell membranes, and ocean-dwelling plankton. Phosphorus is also a fundamental part of energy-carrying molecules present in all life on Earth. Life wouldn’t be possible without it."
  18. Fascinating article here, relating to phosphorous being found on one of Saturn's moons, Enceladus. Phosphorous is a key building block of life and is located in Enceladus' subsurface oceans. Data was beamed back recently by the Cassini Mission. Here's the article from JPL: https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/nasa-cassini-data-reveals-building-block-for-life-in-enceladus-ocean This page has a cool interactive walkthrough which describes how they first noticed the plumes of ice crystals, then identified the sub-surface oceans which likely contain liquid H20, and how confirmation was established as to the presence of phosphorous. The paper: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-023-05987-9 Once humanity truly becomes a space faring species, I believe we will find that life on other planets is the norm, not the exception. If only Nasa were allocated more than a minuscule 22 billion USD per year...which is less than 1% of the annual budget. Seen as a bright arc in this 2006 observation by Cassini, Saturn’s E ring is fed with icy particles from Enceladus’ plume, creating wispy fingers of bright material that is backlit by the Sun. The shadowed hemisphere of the moon can be seen as a dark dot inside the ring. Credit: NASA/JPL/Space Science Institute ----------------------- Oops. Wrong place. 19. But of course, it's called context. How can you make an informed judgement about reality if you don't take into account the entire holistic context, i.e. all the events that impact on a particular topic? In my view the evidence of this incident is pretty solid. Multiple eye-witnesses, multiple video recordings of the UAP. Video footage of the creatures. Enough for me.
  20. About halfway through this page turner. I don't know if Donny will be able to duck these charges. Trump clearly was up to no good with those secrets.
  21. Yes, I'm serious. If you pay attention and watch the video, the creature is clearly visible. Furthermore the anatomical appearance of each creature is pretty much identical, with the same eyes and cranial structure. One is visible in Profile while the other can be seen more or less facing the camera. This can't be explained away as an artifact, in my opinion. It always seems to be the implication. Every "normie" involved in the incident is hallucinating and can't be trusted. The family who video taped the creatures - they're imagining what they saw, there's no way they could be credible witnesses or the video they took legitimate. It's the usual dismissive posture people take and have taken, for this incident and many others. I'm not referring to this particular incident as the cascade of events; rather the numerous preceding incidents such as Ariel School and Varginha, the many witnesses from the military such as David Fravor, the USS Nimitz crew, David Grusch - the whistleblower who just testified before Congress on the crash retrieval program, Ryan Graves, the F-16 pilot who talks openly about how he and other pilots saw UAPs on almost a daily basis, and many, many more examples. These incidents have established sufficient precedent and context in my view, to make the incident in Las Vegas not entirely improbable. Combined with the corroborating factors at play in this incident in Vegas, and yeah, I think this is legit.
  22. Not if you look closely. On a 27 inch monitor the being closest to the family is highly visible sitting in the cab of the vehicle. Frankly, I don't think any video or photographic evidence is enough for some people. Even if the video were shot in broad daylight of an alien it would be explained away as CGI or some visual effects trickery. For me its the confluence of factors coming together that lends legitimacy to this event. 1. The numerous credible eye witnesses who have come forward recently, including those in government and military circles. 2. Credible documented accounts of close encounters with beings of unknown origin (BUOs) - to coin a new acronym. 3. The multiple angles from different cameras (Ring doorbell cam - officer's Bodycam), combined with the authentic footage from the family of encounter with the actual creature. This cascade of events creates in my view a probability that this is encounter actually happened as described. Right, the entire story was fabricated by a group of individuals in that town working together. The video was staged to get viral views, for money. Is that it?
  23. Ok, I just located the complete video set, which shows the body-cam footage, the Ring doorbell cam of the unknown object crashing, and the video from the actual family as they approach the backyard to investigate what landed there. The family are clearly terrified as they approach the back gate that leads to where the vehicles are parked. The father remarks in Spanish about seeing two creatures with big eyes looking back at them. The family retreats from the gate - one family member is armed. In addition to the raw video, the youtube host filtered the video for low light to make it easier to see the alleged beings who are located about 40 feet away behind two large vehicles, which appear to be construction vehicles. If this video is not doctored or fabricated in any way, this appears to be a remarkable and genuine piece of evidence of two intelligent biological organisms of unknown origin.
