  1. Useful perhaps. Clarifying? I don't think you can paint a caricature of a fair representative of everyone in America making less than $12.00/hr. "Statistics describe civilian workers, ages 16+, that would be affected by an increase in the federal minimum wage to $12.00 by 2020. The median age of affected workers is " All "affected" would of course be assumed to benefit, so much in fact that $15.00 must be even better? Where were the actual statistics used? Some are not surprising at all and some the context a little vague. 72% don't have children? Why the 36 year old faceless mother? 43% of those making less than 12.00/hr don't work full time? On average they earn more than half of their family's total income? Presumably of those that do someone else makes less than half, or they are the sole source of income. I can certainly see this as troubling if there are no other sources of income or pension, especially in areas where the cost of living is high. What family unit are they using? Anyone arguing for a high federal minimum wage is arguing for the cost of living to go up, affordably in some areas...but not in many others...possibly stifling the economy they have... ...unless you can guarantee higher wage jobs (15.00/hr is advocated by the Economic Policy Institute)... ...and if you can provide those jobs why aren't you doing it already? Are the jobs you have in mind so bad the current minimum wage earners don't want them? Or do you think the rich corporations should provide them all, as if they are all net job creators?
  2. Agree with all of that. For MigL and INow: Matthew 5:19...And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for. thee that one of thy members should perish, and. not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. For Republicans I think this means do not let the offensive results of the election let you deviate from the path of righteousness as you see it. For Democrats I think it means do not allow yourself to listen to anything you know not to be true. My translation: Keep your eyes in your head and stop quoting the Bible! 😷
  3. Doesn't sound that bad. They're comparing the 10 to Benedict Arnold. He finally came around and became one of the good guys...resided in Saint John New Brunswick for some time.
  4. I'm guessing you might not feel a thing...but admittedly just a guess as I've never been dead.
  5. For what it's worth. I drove a pickup (it was my brother in laws company vehicle in Alberta Canada) back in 1979/80 that operated on either LPG or gasoline...but you could switch one off to the other while driving. You could detect a stumble when switching IIRC but not too much of one. Other than driving it I don't know the intricate details of the system but I'm sure there was, by design, no chance of any explosions outside the piston....and any chance of one inside?....well that's just what internal combustion engines do...they can't operate without them. I can't see how any mixture of LPG and gasoline in the piston under compression with air can be significantly more powerful than either on their own with air. Unless you can somehow pack in more oxygen. Adding either fuel in excess will just eliminate or reduce the explosion. So I think the key is to make sure there is no chance of any explosion outside the pistons...same as any internal combustion engine
  6. There has been scientific agreement that the Earth is spherical for over two thousand years. Interestingly I just found this in the Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_flat_Earth_beliefs#_International_Flat_Earth_Research_Society "Flat Earth Society of Canada was established on 8 November 1970 by philosopher Leo Ferrari, writer Raymond Fraser and poet Alden Nowlan;[33] and was active until 1984.[34] Its archives are held at the University of New Brunswick.[35]" (I was in New Brunswick in the class I mentioned) "Ferrari was interviewed as an "expert" in the 1990 flat Earth mockumentary In Search of the Edge by Pancake Productions (a reference to the expression "as flat as a pancake").[39] In the accompanying study guide, Ferrari is outed as a "globularist," a nonce word for someone who believes the Earth is spherical.[40] The real intent of the film, which was part-funded by the Ontario Arts Council and National Film Board of Canada,[39] was to promote schoolchildren's critical thinking and media literacy by "[attempting] to prove in convincing fashion, something everyone knew to be false."[41]" So that's my New Brunswick/Canadian take on it.
  7. I've mentioned this before in another Flat Earther thread, but in Junior High in the early seventies I had a history prof that was a "flat earther". He never admitted he didn't believe it, but seemed to be using it as a teaching tool to be skeptical about accepted facts. The class had fun with it. The reason he gave that a boat disappeared over the horizon was that the light was affected by gravity so the hull of the ship disappeared first then superstructure due to distance. We came up with our own reasons that "proved" the Earth was flat and argued both sides. I'm not sure why anyone takes them seriously outside of the entertainment value.

We need one "20,000 mittens under the sea"
  9. Not simple enough for you? I wonder what Portland Mayor and Democrat Ted Wheeler is on about? Is he really against "protests in favour of following laws"? https://www.wweek.com/news/city/2021/01/01/portland-mayor-ted-wheeler-demands-harsher-criminal-penalties-for-property-destruction/
  10. I googled INow and "false equivalency". My computer started smoking...😛 Just to be clear...that wasn't suggesting you do false equivalencies.
  11. Which is why it's important to discuss things openly, honest;y and accurately, which the majority still respect, and while they still respect it.
  12. This was a sarcastic reference to doublespeak, not which "side" of the war he was on. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orwellian https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doublespeak A Democratic socialist that believed in a free and open society, and was against totalitarianism, that got caught up in the war. Imagine that if you will.
  13. Titled: "Look Who's Still Rioting" by Wall Street Journal published Jan 21, 2021 https://www.wsj.com/articles/look-whos-still-rioting-11611272972 "Portland police say some rioters carried “pepper ball guns, electronic crowd control weapons similar to Tasers, large fireworks, shields and rocks” and that “weapons were seized including Molotov Cocktails, knives, batons, chemical spray and a crowbar.” No doubt mostly peaceful protesters, as CNN likes to describe this sort of thing."
  14. Yeah. Let's make it clear that taking over parts of cities using intimidation and violence, and excluding authorities and police, can only reasonably count as "protest" and not insurrection. Orwell would be proud. Can we not condemn both violent extremes, regardless of whether we believe one is worse? Does not condemning one not help ignite the other? Or 1936, the Spanish Civil War. Absolutely brutal and based on ideological extremism, with atrocities common on both sides. This is what we are capable of. Not directed at anyone: Can we not condemn both violent extremes, and be a little more tolerant towards those in the middle seeking civil discourse?

I guess Bernie memes are a big hit after the inauguration. Gotta love the gloves:
  17. Too bad drinking bleach wasn't successful...I think he had some pretty intricate plans for rolling out the program.
  18. I have to stop binge watching "The Twighlight Zone" before going to bed. You'll never guess who I dreamt was President the last four years.
  19. https://news.gallup.com/poll/328640/biden-transition-approval-remains-high.aspx Biden at a 68% approval rating....considering all the political angst that's at least a sign of optimism.
  20. Or a mind of sound character...
  21. As does some orange hair protruding above the swamp surface...
  22. Wasn't sure where to put this: Looks like Trump has decided to leave a small hole for water to leak back into the swamp he so nicely dried up... https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/20/politics/trump-revokes-lobby-ban/index.html
