Always leave a system with moving parts. If the objects try to go in a straight line then there would have to be a force making them stay in the system, but forces require more motion, which would then require more force to not go in a straight line. (note: I'm only 14, so I don't know that much, but I'm pretty sure electromagnetism, gravity, etc. haven't been studied enough to assume them to be axioms).

Suppose a cannon fires horizontaly a perfectly elastic ball against a perfectly elastic wall, distant x, with speed v and at the same time starts rushing against the wall with speed u. Will the time taken for the ball to hit the wall and come back to the cannon be given by the following formula: [math] t=\frac{2x}{v+u}[/math]??

Okay, so I have been thinking about this for awhile. Gravity pulls everything down with the same air resistence at the same speed no matter the weight, correct? And gravity is what makes a ball roll down a slope. Then why when you get two balls with the same amount of friction, but different wieght, and you roll them down a hill, the one with more weight rolls down faster?

How does a liquid/medicine dropper suck in liquid? To some extent, I guess I know the answer but am not sure. When the bulb of the liquid dropper is squeezed, it forces out all the air from the dropper which creates a low air pressure inside the dropper. When the liquid dropper is immersed in the liquid & the bulb of the dropper is released, outside air pressure forces the liquid inside the liquid dropper but why does the outside air pressure force the liquid to go inside the dropper? On History channels show The Universe they talked about solar storms "breaking" the magnetic field lines. This has confused me ever since. I thought magnetic field lines were mathematical representations, not a actual physical thing. How can a solar storm break the magnetic field?

Apologies if this is not in the right category. I can't find advice to this anywhere. I am installing solar panels on my roof. I want to know beforehand if it will interfere with incoming satellite signals, or with outgoing antennae signals (we rent out space to a radio station broadcast antennae). Even if you don't know the answer, some generalities would help. I have been told that since solar panels do not transmit a signal, it is completely irrelevant- true or not true?

Hi! Today I was taking care of my plants, and accidentaly my hoe beated in a stone and I saw a spark. Does anybody know what happens with the atoms? The first thing I thought was the work done by the shock energizes the atoms, and when the atoms get de-energized, resulting in the spark. However I thing that this is not a good interpretation of that.

I was recently watching a lovely program about energy production on discovery, when a intriguing question invaded my mind. Our major type of power plants all operate upon burning a fuel and transferring that thermal energy into a fluid medium such as water that in turn uses some of that thermal energy and converts it into kinetic energy and thus can spin a turbine's blades. But after this cyclical process there is another process happening as well, that is the cooling side. When I was a kid, a mechanical engineer explained me a contraption he built. Said it self destroyed in test. From what I remember, will be difficult to explain with no sketch, but, trying : A horizontal cross, equal lenght arms, being the arms outer ends the shafts of say 4 equal bicycle wheels there. The cross assembly made to turn very fast on top of a vertical shaft motor, and the top tangent side of the bicycle tires contact a disc plate above, making the wheels spin. It had something to do with gyroscopic forces... Seemed he was happy with the brutal forces it developed causing its destruction. What could be he was trying to do ?

Found this question online: A ball with a mass of 250 g has a centripetal acceleration of 5 m/s2. What is the centripetal force acting on this ball? My calculation is 0.25 * 5 = 1.25N, but the answer is 1250N. I think the answer is wrong (because I believe all calculations should be done in SI units), but I just want to verify. I'd appreciate if you guys use simpler terms, because I'm in secondary 4 (high school equivalent) and this stuff is beyond my level (it's for Physics Olympiad). Thanks!

Bob has showed a kitchen experiment, I will do the same. This is small old video (sorry for the poor quality) of my casserole with cold water an reluctance of boiled salad (Greek speciality "horta"). Here we are: a small galaxy formation in my casserole. Stupid, isn't it? Only that here we have deceleration, instead of the observed universe which accelerates. Bad analogy or something goes wrong?

In another thread, we seem to have adhered to approved solutions while focusing on a natural process producing seperation of charged particles being taken from atomic structure and brought into concentric arrays and staying that way. A planet with negative electrical bias would then plausibly develop a positive charge at its core that is balanced against an equivalent negative outer shell. Does such an interpretation occur to other laymen or scientists?

"An orbit is the gravitationally curved path of one object around a point or another body, for example the gravitational orbit of a planet around a star" (from Wiki). Under attraction, the naive point of vue is that bodies will bump. Newton made a hard job on demonstrating that bodies falling to each other will not necesseraly bump, but orbit. Under gravity, which is attractive. Well, I was wondering, based on the general symmetry of physical laws, if under repulsive action, maybe the naive picture of bodies expelling each other away was right, or do they orbit ? I'm having a bit of trouble understanding basic atomic structure. Do the electrons of 2 different elements have different energy levels? For example beryllium and boron. Are the 1S electrons of Be in its ground state occupying the exact same energy level of the 1S electrons of B in its ground state? Also I assume s and p orbital electrons are at different energy levels but what about the different p orbitals? Do they have 3 different energy levels or are all 6 atoms in the p orbital in the same energy level?

a 80 kg mass traveling at a velocity of 18 m/s collides with a 80kg mass traveling at a velocity of 18 m/s KE=.5 (m1v)^2=12960 j KE=.5(m2v)^2= 12960 j non elastic collision and boom energy destroyed. the two masses merge but they dont have velocity so no kinetic energy.

i have fabricated a multi-staged dielectrophoretic device (micron scale) to separate cells. i know its a pretty old concept, but i am actually a biological science student so i am obviously not very good with the electromechanics. when i tried to test this device the micro flow path is getting over heated, this causes the evaporation of the fluid (mobile phase) and the cells that needs to be separated. can anyone explain me what exactly is causing the heating and what parameters i do i need to modify in order to reduce the heat production and still achieve good dielectrophoretic separation.
