I was searching the web when I came across this site: http://www.bigclive.com/stunner.htm. Basically it is a description of the "guts" of a stun-gun. I would like to build something similar as a high-voltage supply, possibly with self-wound transformers to get the optimum set-up. I have virtually no knowledge of electronics and am having problems in the two following areas; a) identifying what values to select for the components and b) I have no idea of the internal components of what is simply described as an 'oscillator', or how it steps up the voltage. My understanding of an oscillator is a component that turns a continuous DC output to one pulsed at a certain fre…

But when I hold my sheet with my left hand and hold other part with my thumb and first finger and pull my hand across the sheet a florescent light will follow my fingers as I move it across the sheet. If i do ten times or twenty or more times I get the same results,is this static electricity that is giving off this light or is it friction of my fingers moving across the sheet.

I don't know if this is the right place to look but anywheres here it goes. My band is playing a show here in a 1,000 seat club, We want to take our show to the next level to really make an impression but the kind of pyro we want to use is very expensive and you also need a permit. I am looking for any interesting ideas of something we could do or use as an alternative, or some small pyro tricks that are fairly safe and don't need permits for? if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. please reply on here or email me at brackish35@hotmail.com thanks again

i posted in this section simply because i didn't know where to post. i am looking for design software, something that will help me plan out my ideas so i dont have to make too many prototypes. something that will i can hopefully use to factor in forces and environmental things such as air resistance, and i want this for as cheap as possible preferably free:D(if not the testing then just the design bit would be an absolute bonus, i know its out there i just dont know where) or if anyone is making some and wants someone to test it ill be more than happy to lol

I am going to attempt a largish scale granular liquid experiment, involving very light granular material (e.g. ping pong balls, or styrofoam peanuts) For a 6ft diameter pool filled 1ft deep of material, I am in the process of estimating how much vibrating power I'll need. QUESTION: Must I sit the pool to a vibrating bed ? Or can I use speakers and rely on the sound waves propagating through the material and air gaps ? I assume this will be a function of power. In experiments I have done so far, the resonance of the container is a dominating factor in getting the material to liquify, something I wasn't expecting. This is not to say that resonance of the mate…

here`s how: you`ll need an empty Pringles tube, clear out the little bits you missed when you were eating them, and then cut a 1x1cm hole in the middle of the metal based (I used a Dremel). then you need a can of Matt Black spray paint to paint the inside of the tube (it prevents unwanted internal reflections later). while this is drying ( a good 12+ hours is best) you need to get some brass shim stock about 1 inch square and Flat, if you can`t get any of this then CAREFULLY cut the side out of an Aluminium soda/beer Can, this will work just as well. next you need a sewing needle, I used one that was .5mm wide at it`s widest, although for the 23cm length of the tub…

Ok, I hope this is the right place to put these. -I guess they could go in the teaching forum as well, but either way... Here are some very short films I wrote and composed the music for. They are supposed to be educational and factual, yet poetic and creative at the same time. Hope you like the results! Sun Half-Hour Special! - Planets, Flowering Plants, Ocean, Computer Chips, More!

Hey all, I am trying to set up an ocean wave demonstration in a fish tank. Does anyone have any suggestion on how I could show various wave properties such as wave length, wave height, wave period, fetch etc in a tank that's about four feet long? I was thinking that there might be a way to use dyes or somesuch. Thanks!

Vacuum balloon Yes, my partner and I tried to build one. It was a competition grade balsa and polyethylene construction measuring 4’ x 8’ containing 128 cubic feet of air. At sea level, that’s about 10 pounds of air and the construct weighed 1.25 pounds. We needed to pump 1.3 pounds of air out of the device for it to float. It nearly floated after vacuuming air from it to lower the internal pressure and thus weight, prior to the frame collapsing. What I really needed was a CAD and physics simulation program to design the thing and test it without spending days gluing balsa. It was fun anyway. It nearly flew for a historical first! Cheers,

I'm a rookie when it comes to electronics, but I was wondering, if you have a 12kV rated capacitor and then you charge it with a 3 kV power supply, does the capacitor discharge at the rated voltage of 12kV or does it discharge at 3kV becasue that was what it was charged with? This is prolly a dumb question, but thanks for any info.

i reccently did a school project on Liquid Nitrogen and i also did a few expirements with it such as making ice cream and freezing a balloon here are some pics (in the pic is my lab partner Jake and Dr. Warron from GU) the first one is ice cream the second is freezing a balloon and this last one is jus LN2 being poured but what im wonder is i heard of a decompression sickness called the Benz so any info on that would be great!! also any personal experiences with LN2 or comments or info would be very beneficial!! thanx again

I'm thinking about making a railgun but apparantly they can kill me so I'm probably going to make a pistol-like coilgun. I need to know what kind of wire I need for the coils. Oh and how do the coils in a multi-stage gun go turn on and off by themselves? and how do I release the stored energy in a cap? What kind of capacitor would you recommend and how many? What kind of battery? I've never made anything like this before so tell me how bad the shocks can be too.

Me and a friend are considering doing our science fair project on rockets. We were going to try and build one and test it to a reasonable thesis somewhere along the lines of "Which rocket fuel will fly the rocket the furthest", "What rocket design is the most aerodynamic" , etc. But in our innitial brainstorming, we encountered a few problems. Can we actually make this rocket without having to buy anything substantial? We were going to build the body out of a thin aluminum cylinder we found and some other scrap metal, but we encountered a dillema when we realized we would need a motor. We do not want to buy the motor, if possible we want to make it ourselves. Is this poss…

  24. So I pillaged an old oscilloscope (vintage 1930's-50's) from my highschool physics department years ago and finally got around to taking it apart, I've found that it contains 1 very large transformer (about 2x the size of a powerful microwave transformer, and about a dozen 12 MFD 400 volt dc capacitors, a number of vaccuum tubes and 2 picture tubes, one being a conical tube with a diameter in the end being about 20 inches. It also has a host of other goodies inside of it, and I'm considering what use to put them to. My current list of possible projects includes, a tesla coil an lectron based interferometer that could possibly be used to conduct a double sli…

I want to mobilize the creeper but I will not use gas or at least will have much less fuel emition than a gas motor does i want it to be able to have me sit on it and be able to make it move around. Have any ideas
