Does anyone have any experience making copper II acetate? I can think of two ways. the first way is to react copper II carbonate with white distilled vinegar but that is going to require alot of vinegar. the second way is to react ammonia solution with copper sulfate and then add some sodium hydroxide followed by vinegar. Does anyone have other suggestion that might give a good yield?

Hi all and thanks for taking the time... I am writing a movie where the main character's house has just been blow up. He survives but the gardener does not. I need to disfigure the gardener's face and teeth (sorry for being graphic) so that the bad guys will think the gardener is actually our main character for a while. The only available products that are around are pool water, chlorine for the pool, plant fertilizer, a few bottles of vodka and the remnants of burnt house. My question - Can a type of acid be made from uising these ingredients together which can be used on the gardener? Hope that's not too creepy. thanks for the help:) RC

I was thinking about doing electrolysis of copper sulfate solution with a sterling silver anode and wondered what would plate out on the cathode? Will only copper plate out leaving behind silver anode sludge, or will the silver plate out on the cathode? Will a combination of the two plate out on the cathode? Thanks for the help

Hey Folks, what do you think about these nanoparticles for removing bad odor. http://www.dailymoti...-bad-odors_tech Pretty cool. I was wondering what chemistry are they using to degrade odor molecule? Any comments....

Hi i have been trying to make nitric acid, and i have some questions to make sure it really is nitric acid i have made. here is what i did. Put 80 grams ammonium nitrate, 37 grams of copper, 50ml water and 100ml HCL into flask with a stopper and a tube in it so i could bubble NO2 into 50 ml of cold 3% H2O2. after i heated the flask by putting it into hot water it started bubbling. It is strange to me the gas in the tube never looked brown or red like NO2, why is this? also when it was finally done done bubbling i poured what i think should be nitric acid into a beaker, and it is bubbling like carbonated water, why? what is bubbling out? So is this really…

Hi everyone I have a quick question I hope you all can answer. I'm titrating some HNO3 to determine concentration, however I have not standardized my NaOH solution. I'm looking for a suitable standardizing agent, and I've come across a few. KHP seems to be the most common but oxalic acid and hydrochloric acid are also listed. If I was to buy a standardized solution of HCl, would that be suitable for standardizing my NaOH? I can buy standardized NaOH but doesn't it frequently absorb moisture and CO2 from the air thereby altering concentration and throwing off the titration? Thank you, ~Sebastian

I have a sample of dental gold that I would like to refine using aqua regia. My nitric acid is ~95%, but my hydrochloric acid is of only 20% concentration; is this strong enough to make effective aqua regia, or should I buy some 32% HCl?

Hey all, I am considering making a cell for the production of perchlorates, and I am stuck on finding a suitable material for my anode. Obviously I need something that is conductive but won't react with the chloride/ up to perchlorate ions present during electrolyis. I do have carbon (graphite) electrodes but I've read they are messy and are slowly eaten away. Platinum is always an option but it is expensive, so I am wondering if I can just use nickel or a nickel based alloy instead? Thanks

So i want to make some Manganese(II) Chloride From MnO2 and HCL, yes I realize that this makes chlorine. So i dissolved the MnO2 in the hcl and it has green Iron impurities in it, to much for recrystalaltion to work. what would be the best way to get the impurities out?

So i my question is, How can I calculate how much acid is needed to fully react with a metal or compound, instead of just using excess acid? For example like if you needed to dissolve 10 grams of zinc how could you calculate how much hcl is needed, so you dont ad too little or too much acid? Please give me an example and explain. Thanks B)

Alright so I'm stuck with this problem that's asking me to calculate the change in internal energy of a reaction at 25 degrees C and that has a enthalpy change of -3256 kJ/mol. So I'm thinking using :delta:U = :delta:H - RT(nf-ni) but then which value of R would I use, and on top of that it would introduce a pressure unit into the whole thing which I don't want because I want a final answer in kJ/mol. So where do I start to analyse this problem?

I was wondering how you can make this chemical. I heard from the "benzoic" topic that copper chlorate is unstable. So I want to make sure before moving forward. My thinking was to mix a solution of potassium chlorate and copper sulfate to produce copper chlorate and insoluble potassium sulfate. Am I headed in the right direction? Suggestions would be welcomed!

Hi. I have come to know that Potasium Perclorate can be made by adding Sulfuric Acid (98%) in Potasium Clorate. I have tried but it comes out a yellowish mixture. I guess potasium Perclorate have been formed but sulfer is aslo there. adding 5 grams KCLO3, 50ml Sulfuric acid and 50ml water KCLO3 + H2SO4 + H2O ------> KCLO4 +H20 + S ??? Do any one know how to get Potasium Perclorate out in it ? My second question is, can we make Ammonium Perclorate with Potasium perclorate and Ammonium Hydroxide if yes than what is the best way making Potasium Perclorate from Potasium Clorate and then Ammonium perclorate.

can someone please explain to me the stucture and bonds of a nitrous oxide molecule, because some images i've seen show three bonds between the nitrogen atoms and one bond between the nitrogen and oxygen, whilst others show 2 bonds between both infact more than that it doesnt seem to make sense with the amount of electrons on their outer shells, i know nitrogen can be confusing because it has 5 but this is more confusing than i thought :S
