Would the composition of matter determine the physical reality of phenomena that can occur in a giving system. Basically could a ball of iron for instance by itself become a star, or would a jet aircraft on earth be able to function the same on say Mars of Venus as a more basic example. If energy can't be destroyed, then forms of energy like sound and kinetic would eventually become heat (like if you were to speak or hit a table). Is that right? The other question I wanted to ask was, if things like sound will eventually be changed into an energy form like heat, do the sounds people and machines make everyday put a lot of heat energy into atmosphere/earth? I know that the energy used to speak is very low, but on the scale of all people in the world would it have a large effect?

I have recently started studying the photoelectric effect. I currently have very little understanding of the theory. As i understand it retarding voltage is a voltage applied to the anode and the cathode of a photovoltaic cell such that any photoelectrons emitted are decelerated just enough such that they don’t reach the anode. This is a very superficial understanding, and could be totally wrong. Can anyone help me qualitatively refine my understanding? Also, why is a retarding voltage ever used? Jack.

The metal some glasses are made of is bendy, once bent it recovers on its own, like a spring reguaurdles of how much it is bent. This metal is called metal with memory. If a car was made of metal with memory then during a car crash the car would crumple and stop the passengers and the drivers getting injured. Then it would auto-recover during the next coupple of seconds, just like the glasses?

I was given this question. I have worked through it and get the answers below. I am unsure as to if they are correct or not. The method I have used was never discussed in lectures. An electron with v= 3 x 10^6 m/s enters a region of uniform electric field between two charged plates. The plates are 0.1 meters apart. hello, i was talkin with a phd student, an he said the 2nd law of thermodynamics, was more of a statistical law, an is based of what has happened. So the 2nd law is empirical in nature. Is that correct in saying? or is entropy, a fact, not just somethign made up to fulfill a consistent observation? also, if anyone knows, why is it uncommon to turbocharge v8's.

Purely hypothetical. If you had a body, a planet sized one with a planetary orbit like in our solar system for instance, and you had two of them, with identical orbits, such as one is just polar of the other in the orbit(if that’s possible?) and they both had the same mass and velocity for instance in the orbit, when to composition of such have any impact on the gravity they might posses, such as if one was made of carbon or one was made of oxygen for example. Now baring density from this, just balls of matter of those two types, with exact mass and velocity, would they hold a different degree of gravity, such as more or less gravity?

Yes, I don’t have a high level of understanding in regards to tensor stuff so please bear with me. In regards to tensors can time be applied in varying degrees successfully, such as in the billionth of a second to maybe an hour? What I mean is basically can you use time in a sort of fashion to dissect actions/reactions for example in tensor terms? When I think about it such seems very rigid, or how could it adequately describe the motion in the ocean for at least one minute of time, or how each wave on a shore might look exactly for the period of ten minutes or some other increment of time. Hi, Does anyone know if it is possible and if so how to go about making a metal or plastic (durable material) semi permeable? I may be using the incorrect terminology but basically i need to know if it is possible to change a material to enable it to allow air to pass through however not liquids. One way I thought you could do this was by inserting lots and lots of minute holes in the metal, holes big enough to allow air particles to pass through but not liquids. Another way would be to use a material that has these properties anyway? Does anyone know of such a material? Any help would be appreciated Thanks!

A running track to be built in advance to be directly in the path that the Earth spins so that if a race was held on the track (doesnt need to be an oval) that the runner could in fact run a faster time if they ran in the opposite direction of the Earths spin. Or would factors such as gravity and other forces relative to our atmosphere make this impossible and wouldnt give the possibility of running faster.

Hello. I have a load cell problem. I'd like to know if anybody knows some tips about the design. I have a load cell which has 2 holes inside, conected by a long hole and I have to make it better. That's why I'd like to ask, what will happen if I decrese size of holes, make the holes bigger, get rid of a long hole, etc etc. what are the general rules? As I currently understand it entropy is a measure of disorder, but in comparison to what exactly allows for that definition to exist. I mean if you are to say something is in disorder, that’s to mean there is then an order right, or some other state something should or could be in besides the disordered one. *Side Note. I would also like to know what role entropy plays in string theory, in context of the uncertainty principal if anyone could point me in a direction to read on such that would be great.
