I have a, hopefully, interesting puzzle for someone who has more time to spare than myself. 4 pork sausages were placed in a frying pan and approximately one table spoon of pure vegetable oil added. The frying pan was placed on an electric hob and the heat turned up to mark 6, after a couple of minutes the heat was turned down to mark 3. The sausages were cooked for between about 15-18 minutes. And then consumed. The pan was then placed on a cool hob to cool down inself. After consumption of the sausages, the pan was inspected ready for washing and a strange pattern had formed in the oil. If the pan was shaken to disturb the oil, the pattern returned (I'm not sur…

I`m no Car expert but do understand the basic principles of the internal combustion engine, turbos and NO gas mixes this is ONLY an idea, and I`ll leave it to more experienced in this area to decide it`s viability. I`m sure we`ve all heard of NO (Nitrous Oxide) or "Nitrous" as it`s often called. and it`s effect on an engine! NO gas is quite expensive and sold in bottle form, what if there were a way to generate NO gas directly using heat from the turbo or exhaust manifold ? and have the advantage of it being in a solid form? it would require little work as far as I can see, you`de need a heat proof sealable metal container (screw top) that has a simple pipe …

Not exactly sure where this should go, feel free to move it. I'm starting to think that we human beings are from another planet. Sure there's no proof, but it could explain why all 'UFO' and 'alien' sightings are top secret classified documents. Anyway, here's my reasoning: First off, what are the odds that a species evolved, or was created, that completely threw off the natural balance in the world? Before humans, creatures hunted only for food, and hunted only the weak, old, and sick. Before humans, forests kept the world nice and clean (now many of us can barely breathe without coughing, who knows how the animals feel?) Next, we seem to be deevolving. The f…

I am just wondering what any scientists think would happen to you if all you ate was potato chips (aka crisps in the UK). You are allowed to drink water, but the only food you can eat is crisps. Apart from the obvious effect of getting bored of eating crisps, what physical effects would it have??? This is a genuine question! Cheers, RMP

The following are some thoughts I put together over the last couple of days and called the Natural Law of Movement. My knowledge of science is very limited, so this stems from my imagination. My knowledge is so limited infact that at times I may simply be stating the obvious, however i have never read anything that has gathered things together in this fashion. From my perspective it is about putting an unfamiliar spin on the way we view the Universe. I'm not interested in long discussions about technical details, as by default technical detail means that such detials will not encompass a total truth. I am posting it here in an attempt to find out where I a…

Surely this has been mentioned somewhere before, but i'll bring it up again. Giraffes evolved longer necks because ones with mutations for longer necks survived better. But evolution is gradual so here is my question --- why did slightly longer necks help them survive? It might help to know the heights and populations of different types of trees that have grown in Africa, but assuming most are a certain height, only reachable by a longnecked girafe: why would slight increase make a difference? If one giraffe is two inches, or two feet taller than most others, but it still is not tall enough to reach the leaves, what is driving its evolution to be able reach it someday…

Hi, first post here. Have been trying to convince this conspiracy theorist (CT) that the red colour on Mars is perfectly natural and in the course of this have discovered that I don't know the basics of light and atmosphere colour. I have looked it up on HowStuffWorks but I have some questions. If anyone here can help me to answer that would help me to argue with the CT. (If this is the wrong place to ask such a question, please point me in the right direction.) If you look up at the blue sky you are seeing many things: A. Blue light scatter-reflected billions of times such that when it hits your eye it comes from many many many sources. B. The other w…

has anyone ever heard someone say that it`s "Too cold to snow"? I know I have, and I`ve often wondered what it means, and when confronting such people with "what do you mean" you usualy get back "because it is" yeah right, some answer that is! now I`m thinking of the north or South pole here the temp is often -20 or lower and it`s like snowing all the time there! so what`s this "It`s too cold to snow" business all about? any ideas?

I just thought of something unimaginable.I doubt you have not heard of a disease that causes advanced aging in you children.Well I heard that one corrupt cell in a million or billion causes it in a DNA strand.Well I was thinking that if there was a cell that could cause advanced aging could there be a cell that could cause prolonged youth.I was also thinking that maybe we could test on rodents see if there is one.Oh yeah!Um how would i corrupt the cell of a DNA strand anyways? I (somewhat) successfully completed the first two launches of my video rocket project! The only problem is that the parachutes failed to properly deploy during both launches. I'm currently working on a webpage for it, but for now you can view the pictures and see the video. The Camera: Stripped Down Camera: Rocket Layout: Rocket Without Nose Cone Videos (right-click, save target as): Launch 1 Launch 2 Vidcaps From Launch: Rough ejection charge One frame later... there goes the parachute.. There's my car!

Most people would argue my opinion of science being embedded in modern business practices. Everyone knows that advertising is simply a way to get your product, service, or even facts and opinions across to a specific group of people, and attract their attention to your group or organization. Most people don't realize that there IS a science, and an art behind this. When you see the first few seconds of a commercial you've seen many times before, you can almost hear the lyrics, or see an image of the product being advertised in the back of your head somewhere. When you're doing simple things such as reading a book, or driving to work, you'll start humming the s…
