Hi, I need some help on this type of question. How would I calculate this ? If the absorbance at 540 nm of a sample of blood diluted 201 times in Drabkin's solution is 0.511 and that of a 0.572 g/L haemoglobin in Drabkin's solution is 0.325, what is the haemoglobin concentration of the blood sample in g/L? (the answer should be to one decimal place) I tried to work this out twice using the hb concentration formula which is absorbance of test*concentration of ref. prep. *dilution of blood/absorbance of ref. prep. but the answers I got was incorrect, and I cant tell where i am going wrong so can someone please have a look at this. Thanks

Hi everyone, This is about Mean cell volume of blood. So basically, to calculate MCV of blood you need to divide haematocrit with red cell count, then the answer I get would be in litres. Now I need to convert Litres to fL (femtolitres) i know that there are 10^15 fL in 1 Litre, so how would I work this out? I have problem with the 10^15 part, thats what is confusing me. Similarly how would I convert grams to pg (pictogrammes) ? there are 10^12 pg in 1 g. I have tried looking on the internet but there are only converting calculators and no explanation whatsoever. please someone help out

Hi, I've been looking at material all day and am still confused about multiple testing. For the assignment, we're given a paper where three groups (2 experimental, 1 control), are put on controlled diets, have have biomarkers and memory assessed after 3 months. The question is why it was appropriate for the authors to no correct for multiple testing. They performed post-hoc t-tests for differences before and after the intervention. Most of the documents I've been able to find say that multiple testing correction is used when you're comparing a massive number of metrics and need to make your significance more stringent to keep out false positive results, but those a…

Hello! Im in 9nth grade and my school is very very strict to science faris. They want us to like create things that will help the future or like that, and they don't realize it's very very tough. So what im asking for is a viable theme (not reserch, you have to take action in the process) except for cosmetgic and things like that, because they can give allergies. Examples our professor gave us was to: invent a new soda, or to cover a super new and cool thing like molecular cooking (we can't use that one, already taken) Please help me! Im in a hurry and please dont say like pollution or volcanos and stuff. Sorry for the english, not american Thank you Dani.

  10. (the correct answer is 1.42 * 10^-5 mol/l) [form: Izbrana poglavja iz biokemije 1; A. I have a science project due for a physical science class. We have to take a household item and break 10 ingredients in the item down to their molecular level. We get extra points if we don't have to enlist the professor for help. I'm seeking clarification on the terminology of breaking down an ingredient to its molecular level. I'll use sodium silicate as an example. Would breaking sodium silicate down to its molecular level look like: Na2Si03 If not, could someone help me with breaking down sodium silicate to its molecular level so I can have a place to start?

Hi to all. I'm trying to solve this genetic problem but there no is way I can do it, so I hope anyone can help me (sorry for my bad English): "We expose 109 yeast cells (in exponential growing) to a 10 minutes pulse of nucleotides labeled with phosphorus-32 in the alpha phosphate, with an specific activity of 80 Ci/mol (ci = curium = 2,22x1012 dpm). After the pulse, we purify all the DNA, which has become radiactive with an activity of 55000 dpm. Using this information, calculate the DNA synthesis rate of each yeast cells in nucleotides / second" Thanks you!

I have the stats on a well in a rural area and need to devise a way to make the fluoride level safe to drink. Assume I had to treat 1000 L per day and I wanted to get the fluoride concentration down to 1-2mg/L, how would I do that or show some calculations? the details of the well im focusing on are: pH=7.9 TDS= 975 [F-]= 13.1 mg/L [CO3^2-]= 3.0 mg/L [Ca2+]= 5 mg/L I know I need to precipitate it but im not sure how to show calculations for it or what to use. Any help would be amazing.

Hi, I need to plot a graph with mean absorbance values against concentrations. Basically there would be 4 mean absorbance values on the y-axis and concentrations would be on x-axis. And then I need to use this information to determine the concentration of my protein (RFP) in unknown sample. I wanted to do this on excel but i dont know how to do this bit, and also on paper. Does anyone know how to do this ? Thanks

    Ok, so I'm a bit stuck. Here's the problem: log(base9)(x-6) + log(base9)(x+2) = 1 Here's my work. At first i simply tried to solve by rooting: (x-6)(x+2) = 0 x = 6 or x = -2 But realized this would not work, as any rooting would result in having one of the logarithms above yield an invalid result (eg. log_9(0) ) I've tried another way (isolating x), but I'm stuck. (x-6)(x+2) = 0 x^2 + 2x - 6x - 12 = 0 x^2 -4x = 12 The only thing I can think of doing at this point is x - 2(x^(0.5)) = 12^(0.5) And that's kind of useless (i think). Any ideas?

    I am trying to solve [math] \frac{dx}{dt} = Rx(t)(1 - \frac{x(t)}{K} [/math] knowing [math] x(0) = K/N [/math] I got to [math] dx = [Rx(t) - R(x(t))^2]dt [/math] and then I am unsure about how I should do the integration of the second term of the right hand side. The solution is [math] x(t) = \frac{K}{1 + (N - 1)e^(-Rt)}[/math]

This is a doubt that's been irritating me for some time. I've got different answers from teachers and students whenever I've asked. I have two hollow charged conducting spheres, A and B. The radius of A is greater than the radius of B and it also has a greater charge than B, let's say +2q (B has +q). If I put B inside A, and connect them with a wire, will charge flow from A to B or from B to A? If charge flows from A to B, until both reach the same potential (which seems right to me), that goes against the thing that says a conductor should have all of its charge on the outer surface. If charge flows from B to A (because all the charge on a conductor…
