For several personal reasons, I suspect that my dad put a keylogger in my computer and was trying to keep an eye on what I am doing online. I am a bit fed up with him as he overcontrols me too much. I can't tell exactly wich keylogger he uses. I'v heard that some keyloggers are completely undetectable, that's horrible. Plz, is there anyway to detect the keylogger in my Mac?

I went to turn on my computer the other day and i ended up getting a blue screen after windows was loaded and after i logged into my account. Now being a slightly better than your average computer user i tried to track down the cause of the bluescreen to get around it. i found that if i enter safe mode i don't get a blue screen, atleast until i tried to open either of my AV programs. also it seemed that if i tried to open firefox it would freeze, though i only tried to do it once, and all 3 of these happenings i did at once. ( i know, when troubleshooting computer issues your supposed to do it singularly, but i tried to multitask.) The bluescreen flashes and my compu…

  4. Well i am a layman not a mathematician so i found a link which gives the proof of the godel's incompleteness theorem from a layman's perspective. Here's the link My link I quote a paragraph from this website "The proof of Gödel's Incompleteness Theorem is so simple, and so sneaky, that it is almost embarassing to relate. His basic procedure is as follows: Someone introduces Gödel to a UTM, a machine that is supposed to be a Universal Truth Machine, capable of correctly answering any question at all. Gödel asks for the program and the circuit design of the UTM. The program may be complicated, but it can only be finitely long. Call the program P(UTM) for …

I'm not sure how to work out the answer for these 2 questions: (1) Consider a byte address 0xDEAD on 16-bit machine. What is the corresponding word address? a) 0xDEAD b ) 0xDEAB c) 0xDEAE d) 0xDEAC e) 0xDEAA (2) Consider a byte address 0xDEAD on a 32-bit machine. What is the corresponding word address? a) 0xDEAC b ) 0xDEAB c) 0xDEAE d) 0xDEAD e) 0xDEAA I understand that 16-bit has 2bytes & 32-bit has 4-bytes. For question (1) would i take DE and AD, if so how do i convert is into word addr.? I don't understand the term "word" clearly.... Please explain this and question Thanks for your help:)

Hey, I saw this contest, and I immediately thought that someone from this forum might like it - tinkering with embedded systems. Basically, you describe your idea, then if they like it, they send you a starting kit board with Renesas micro, which you can use to develop your application. This is the board and it's functional diagram: If you are approved, be sure to drop a comment here to exchange ideas.

The interface of the later includes: BLOCK (process) and UNBLOCK (process) a) Outline the data structures you would expect to find in these modules to support event and process management.(5) B) Describe the interactions between these modules as the system runs.(5) c) Discuss the problems that arise if concurrent invocation of the event management module is possible d) Describe how these problems may be avoided if the OS i…

Hi. I am having some trouble with choosing a field in CS. I am currently a junior in UCSD as a CS major. I am not sure which field I should get into. For now, I am learning to webpage/server/networking, because it seems to be the most practical, which can help me find a good job easily after graduating. Since I really need to decide what technical elective courses to take, I would like to decide what field I will major in. Please give me some advice on various fields and how to make this decision. I want to get into a field that is practical and useful, so that finding a good job would be easy. Thank you very much.

  12. I am working on a project where computers will have to last for centuries. Assume that you have a warehouse stocked with plenty of spare parts and a computer technician to make repairs. How long can you keep a computer going? Are any of the parts going to decay on the shelf even if they are properly stored? Which ones? Would it make sense to custom engineer some ultra-durable parts? What computers would be best for this purpose?

I'm sure we all can agree that a human couldn't build a modern computer from raw materials. Someone can assemble the components (CPU, motherboard, hard drive, etc.) but automated machines are required to etch the millions of transistors onto a CPU and manufacture many of the other components. These machines themselves are very sophisticated, and I imagine building them requires other machines. With this chain of machines building machines, what is the risk of civilization losing a vital link in the chain? For instance, what if we somehow forget how to build the machines that manufacture CPU etchers? As the existing CPU etchers wear out, wouldn't the supply of new …

The question is, what is information? And how would you measure it? In my opinion, information is any data at all, and measured in bits (or a similar system). However, some data can be compressed. Because the same data can be reconstituted from a potentially smaller amount of data, it makes sense to count the smallest amount possible as the amount of information, with the compressibility factor a measure of the redundancy of the information. A subtype of information would be communication-information. Messages depend on the context of the situation, so what would be information to one person may be gibberish to another. Also, this gives another way to measure the …

  22. A quick quesiton... Suppose there are two Ethernet subnets and a gateway in between. From one PC in the first subnet we are going to establish TCP/IP connection to another PC on the second subnet. Obvously, the default gateway IP address must be defined in the first PC. But the question is, should the default gateway be defined also in the other PC (this one is only accepting the connection)? (If I understand IP networking correctly, there is no need for the accepting side to know its gateway. But I am not sure.) Thanks.
