I remember debating this in my highschool psychology class! There is no point really, I think everyone knows it's both. There is a study in the book "Genone"(I think) that did a test with seperated twins, and it turned out that even if the twins were seperated and put into totally different enviroments they were still basically the same in both intelligence and attitude. I think the test concluded that it was about 60% nature and 40% nurture.

hey all, new to the site...2nd year college student here, declared bio major, and planning a life of serious research in genetics. Problem: will I get tired/bored of working in a lab all day? I love learning about bio, but not sure how I feel about spending my life in a sterile fluorescent-lit, room surrounded by glass beakers and test tubes. Does it ever get depressing? ~sincerely concerned

hello anyone who reads this. im a student who is currently writing a research paper on Tay-Sachs disease. I do not have a background in genetics and I am confused on a few details. In one of my sources it says: "Thirteen splice junction mutations have been documented. Most occur at the intervening sequences at the 5' half of the gene. Only three, IVS-4, -1G-->T, IVS-5, -1G-->T, and IVS-9, -1G-->T occur at 3' splice sites." Questions I have: a. what is an intervening sequence? is that a fancy name for an intron? b. what/where is the 5' half of the gene? 3'? c. what is the meaning of the number after the IVS and what is the meaning of the number…

I came across these little marvels doig a biology course last year, but they were just briefly described as Introns being the parts of a gene that are spliced in for protein synthesis, and exons are spliced out. I also came across another article regarding fruit flies I think it was, where they have shown that by skipping different Introns, one gene can code for several different proteins. anyone any idea of how this mechanism works, and if it is employed to any significant degree in higher animals.

Would it be possible to use a virus or other means to change a persons DNA in to some one elses slowly. Perhaps make a bunch of hoast compatable cells (the right receptors so they would not be killed by host cells) put them in the host body and make them superior some how so they would slowly replace the original host cells. would the host end up looking like the donar? or could you make just certain parts like the donar's. Could it be done with today's technology if we understood the human DNA and cells better? just a thought. -------------- Sneezing makes my back hurt? Does my sneezing hurt you to?
