Quick Philosophical Enlightenment. To an antimatter universe where everything is the same and all the same events occur(ed), wouldn't we be an antimatter universe. In other words, we could be an antimatter universe considering normal matter universes as antimatter. hmmph

I was wondering. If the strings in string theory are vibrating in more than 3 dimensions and they are the fundamentals to which all particles are manifested thereby producing the 3D reality for which we live. Why is it that 'we' only experience '3 dimensions' of physical reality.. In other words, why do we only experience and perceive 3 dimensions of reality when reality itself (and ourselves) is, at that most fundamental level, made of strings - which vibrate in more than 3 dimensions... Why don't we experience the number of dimensions for which reality itself is in.. I mean, shouldn't we experience the number of dimensions to which our own realty is in..

Over readings, I have "stumbled" across a few very strange sounding types of matter and energy, and decided to create a topic dedicated to the differentiation and explanation to these exotic theoretical forms of matter. I will explain what i am already familiar with, and will leave it to the real experts on this site to possibly build/correct my information. Here are a few forms of exotic matter i have come in contact with: NOTE: I don't know what im talking about. I would just like smarter people to correct my misconceptions and to build on my understanding. Dark Matter: matter that is strewn throughout the universe. Larger than regular particles? hard to ... …

Another question on Hawking and Mlodinow's book, The Grand Design. On page 180, they state: "Because gravity is attractive, gravitational energy is negative . . . This negative energy can balance the positive energy needed to create matter." Then they state: "Because gravity shapes space and time, it allows space-time to be locally stable but globally unstable. On the scale of the entire universe, the positive energy of the matter can be balanced by the negative gravitational energy, and so there is no restriction on the creation of the entire universe." I understand that per general relativity, gravity is a global effect. Because gravity (spacetime curvat…

Electrons quite easily move from one place to another. One example was the fear that a moon landing would cause a rush of electrons into or out of the space craft due to potential difference between the moon and the craft. Every time you touch something at a different potential to yourself you either gain or lose some electrons. Are electrons extremely long lived as the creation of electron - positron pairs and the mutual cancellation of electron - positron pairs seem to be quite a rare occurrence. Could you, for instance, say that some of the electrons in your body may have existed in a pile of dinosaur dung?

  12. I'm really into the Mass Effect games and I'm just wondering; if Mass Effect fields really could be created, how useful would they really be? For anyone who doesn't know what a mass effect field is, it's basically a field that either reduces or increases the mass of everything within a certain volume of space; it can be used to reduce the effective mass of a spaceship to near 0. I mean it would certainly allow the colonization of the solar system and maybe even nearby star systems, but could it really allow for faster than light flight?

  13. Are the ideas that "Higgs boson exists" and "supersymmetry is a symmetry of nature" falsifiable even in principle? If yes, then how?

Is time a dimension? Can something move through it? We cannot because if we could, we would have, just like in 4D. But what about TD (yes time-dimension)? Can we move through time. Like speed up our movement through time not space. So that way we could age slower or faster. Or indefinitly to technically stop time. Also, 1D 2D and 3D are spacial dimensions. If space and time are connected is there a TD?

Last week I was watching the LHC at this screen: http://lhc.web.cern.ch/lhc/ when something happened and there was a shutdown. In the “Comments” section at lower screen right, someone had entered “UFINO?” as a possible explanation for the shutdown. Is this shorthand for unidentified SUSY particle (of course ending in INO)? I googled UFINO without any explanation.

To my understanding, the wave-nature of energy can explain a lot of phenomena with the exception of interaction with certain other energy manifestations e.g. light interacting with an electron. Is the reason that the wave-nature cannot explain this that the superposition principle of a wave simply will add the two wave-forms of the photon and electron, and not cause a change in either's momentum? If so, could the wave-theory be modified to somehow exclude superposition under some circumstances?

Hello, Thought. When black holes are attracted to each others and start there dance to merging, is it the singularities that are first merging and the event horizons following or are the event horizon and singularities move as one? Or am i missing it entirely? Also if the universe is curved would the centers (singularities) of black holes all meet in a certain "depth" or point? Maybe in cosmic local groups have of galaxies would there be a point where all come together? Thanks

Is there a limit to how many photons can fit into a space.. let's say a cubic millimeter? Let's say you pointed 20 very powerful lasers so that they all crossed paths within the same cubic millimeter... would they all fit? Would it be crowded? Would they bounce of of each other, scattering at angles other than the original path of the lasers?

I was wondering, would string theory be a perfect theory if there were no divergences.. and are the divergences of string theory sort of anomalies/holes in the dimensions of the theory or in the symmetry.. also, are there divergences in all string theories... just one more thing, (my apologies). Are there divergences in M-theory at all ? note - i do apologize if divergences aren't actually associated with the above, as im just trying to refresh my memory

Hello everyone, Nice to find a science forum that's not full of spam! Firstly, I'm not a professional scientist, or expert in any theoretical field. Just a pleb trying to wrap my 4 dimensional mind around some 11 dimensional concepts. At a string level, my reading suggests we have branes, closed strings, and open strings that latch onto brane surfaces - all vibrating in curious multidimentional ways. I am also to understand that G force is represented as a closed string free to drift (accounting for it's relative weakness), while EM force is an open string latched to a brane upon which our universe exists. What if... It seems to me that a theory seeking to…
