tecoyah
As with Anything that increases understanding, and opens up the dynamics of new technologies, the mapping of human structure will undoubtedly be insightful. We will likely take many decades to see dramatic results, but I don't see how the result could "Not" be productive.
badchad
I agree with tecoyah. Yes the genome is mapped, however the information by itself is not overly useful. It will take decades until we can make sense of it all and use it in a producive manner.
Nalos Surith
The Human Genome project is extremly important to all of mankind, the uses of its understanding are remarkable. Once we full can grasp what the parts of Human (and other lifeforms) DNA, we can develop new ways to extend life, cure the gene for balding, improve skin quality, we can even start playing with our own genes through gene theropy, or completely change our characteristics entirely, the possiblities of its useless are endless. MolecularMan14
Agreed. If we can better our knowledge of life, then we can utilize that knowledge in research and ultimately better the existance of humans. So, I would say that yes, its useful
Skye
Very useful for drug development.
daisy
Why would anyone think it's NOT useful?......that's a challenge by the way. Any doubters out there?
Nalos Surith
I have one...whats the point we're all gonna DIE eventually. Nalos Surith
http://www.ornl.gov/sci/techresources/Human_Genome/project/progress.shtml http://www.nature.com/genomics/ Its seems as if they have mapped out and pinpointed many areas of what our chormosomes do. There is much information on there, hopefully we will being to see futher progress on this
5614
i agree with what is (currently) the overwhelming majority in saying that i think that it will be good, useful and hopefully benefit the human race. (i agree with this:) Knowing the genetic code of humans is the first step to understanding genetic diseases, and curing them.
Nalos Surith
I must add that with the current development of nanotechnology the HGP(Human Genome Project) I that it will play an important role in its advancements.
