Well, I'm sitting here at work looking at this lovely piece of hardware, and am brainstorming ideas on driving my coworkers insane. Any ideas? Bear in mind I work at an electronics manufacturing firm, so we can be a bit creative. Any input would be appreciated.

Hmm... if you have your computers on power strips, and you have to switch them on every morning, attach it to the power strip in such a way that when they turn it on, it sets the doorbell off. Perhaps you could wire the power strip switch to the switch on the doorbell.

Voila!

 

But it would be more fun with a 120 db emergency horn.

Solar-powered flashlight? Stupidity Detector? A portable button that makes a big, negative, wrong-answer-on-a-game-show "Ehhhhhhh!" sound when you push it? Fake cell phone that rings so poor folks can act important? Dual portable doorbells with plastic flip-covers that require two people to push them simultaneously in order to ring them (like nuclear missiles)?

 

I get royalties, right?

Or, even better, you can sneak in to someone's office when they're gone and stick the doorbell in their desk, or even into their printer or something. Then start setting it off.

Do you have access to a recordable chip? I know they make them small enough to put inside teddy bears and you can record multiple times on them. If you could hook one up to a decent sized speaker you could have all sorts of portable fun!

Set up several bells around the office, and set them up to ring at random times or time intervals! Or have one ring ever 5/3 hours, another every 1/6 hours, another every 5/6 hours. Mu-hahahaha.

Get some IR sensors and have it ring every time somebody opens a stall in the bathroom.

Make it seem like a police car is going by every 30 secs...

wire the bell output to a relay, the sky`s the limit as to what you can use the contacts to switch on/off

 

you could even take 2 wires from the `=` key on a cheap calculator, and type in 1=1.

the constant function will act as a counter each time the 2 wires are connected (maybe to your relay), from there you could wire the remote bell button to the kettle and count how many times it gets used in a day, if you keep notes you`ll know who`s skiving off work, and hit them with cold facts like "You had 37 cups of coffee in the last half hour, explain youself or I`m telling the Boss" )

Cyano Acrylate based glue is ideal for short periods, just rough up both surfaces a little with some sand paper and watch the fun

Put the ringer button in their chair, with the doorbell itself somewhere nearby. When they sit or fidget, it rings!

If you knew computer programing you could give him a little virus that makes a window pop up on the screen and say, "WARNING! Monitor radiation leak! Evacuate immediately!" and watch the fun ensue.

well he`s in an Electronics dept, so a simple TTL buffer (7404) from the bell to an IRQ pin in the PC could be made to trigger this warning )

If you do that, you could also make it distort the screen a bit, to make it look like a real radiation leak.
