Politics Of "hiding" Nukes

Featured Replies

An article came to my attention recently showing a man holding a suitcase-sized supposed nuclear bomb. It seems that some drop-out from former KGB times emigrated to the U.S. and claims the Soviets developed operable bombs carryable by one person, and secreted many of them in various hidden places within the U.S., and is now awaiting the appropriate time to begin using leverage over us with them.

Anyone else hear of this; what do you think of this? imp

Where's Jack Bauer? Oh yeah... stupid writer's strike.

I'm glad I'm not a politician. I don't know how real those stories are, but they're not very pleasant scenarios.

Was this article on fanfiction.net?

I strongly doubt that something small enough to be fitted into a case like that with Weapons grade isotopes, would have sufficient shielding Not to be detectable from a great distance.

I don`t buy it.

As iNow intimated, you've just described the scenario for season six of the TV show 24. Was this an article in TV Guide?

Who is waiting for the appropriate time? The KGB? I'm thinking they missed their chance.

Speaking of hiding nukes, it is intriguing to think about whether revealing Israel nukes would act as more of a deterrant than the status quo. Though, when you factor in extremist suicide bombers, it really throws everything off. Threatening to nuke Mecca might have better results.

russia did develop some of these back in the day presumably as a second strike weapon, they built about 100 of them. Last I heard around 40 were unaccounted for.

their were alot of articles on it back in 2002-2003 when this all came to light, and osama was claiming he had a few (obviously he didn't, or realized the us response would be to nuke everything sacred in the holy land)
