Snow Day!!

Featured Replies

Yeehaw, we've been granted a snow day here in the midwest. Actually, we currently are under "blizzard conditions" - 20-30 mph winds (sorry, can't concentrate enough to change that to klicks/hour right now, but I'd guess around 60km/h) and still heavy snow.

And lemme tell you, it's gorgeous!

It just started to snow in ottawa today, I was liking the odd climate, 0-10c was nice, but...I guess eventually the winter had to come...err I hate snow.

Yeah, I might be lucky, but those poor ba$tards in the 16-car pileups (dead serious) on the highways sure aren't.

It seems to have cleared up. We have drifts as tall as two or so feet. It's pretty awesome - except the roads, which are terrible.

We had a snow day here in Texas of all places. It snowed about an inch, maybe 2 inches and they canceled classes for the entire day and night. The streets were pretty slick so I suppose it was with good reason.

We had snow at one point, then it melted and now it's like +8 C. :|

I live in Colorado. We don't have snow days, except for real blizzard conditions that are so bad the snowplows get stuck. Usually get one of those every 1-2 years.

Illinois resident here.

College was cancelled. A few cars were caught in the snow.

I awoke today thinking, "Man... how deep is that?"

I typically don't see snow that deep.

I was surprised when I learned lots of stuff was cancelled.

I did my social duty and shoveled a little bit.

It all seemed futile after a while.

However, I'm still studying and typing up papers.

Yeah. I shoveled the front stoop, and by the time I'd shoveled the concrete walkway to the driveway, the stoop had another half-inch (centimetre) of snow on it.

So I pretty much gave up. Haha.

It has cleared up considerably now - just the odd snowflake or two. The wind has died down to the occasional gust. I'm looking right at a 2 foot (about 2/3 meter) drift through my window. Genecks - you aren't at UIUC, are you?

And we have the warmest fall ever since temperatures are measured. Average temperature (over days and night) was 13.6 C over the months of September, October and November . Last weekend we had 17 C, which never happened before in the last week of November, as long as measurements are done over here (for appr. 300 years). Still it is quite warm for the time of year, with temperatures between 10 C and 15 C, while normally start of December has 6 or 7 C.

While I really want more snow days, I've already had a whole week off and if we miss any more they are going to start taking vacations away.
