"Two Sides of the Same Party"

In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Catherine Fitts was using the phrase "two sides of the same party" several times:

As far as I understand, it's perfectly obvious that just like any representatives of big business inevitably monopolize and cartelize finally (they understand that it's more profitable for them to cooperate than to compete), the same process finally occurs with all parties. The only way to solve this problem is direct democracy, at least like in Switzerland - several referendums each year. I really hope that Trump would initiate an all-US referendum asking people to vote on all hot US issues - prohibition of abortions, "gender diversity", Ukraine, cryptocurrencies, etc. This will destroy the illusion "if Americans choose between Harris and Disantis, that means they have democracy".

So yet another attack on western democracy by our resident political troll. It's like a cracked record. The idiocy of suggesting Trump has any interest in democratic government shows the post is not made in good faith. (Oh and Carlson is a Putin apologist and Fitts is a conspiracy theorist.)

Some of the topics you choose for referendums indicate you are part of the uneducated and brainwashed problem that is Trump supporters.
The abortion issue had been decided for years, and everyone was happy with it, until D Trump decided to make an issue of it again, by letting some really backward states make their own decisions.
As for the rest, the average American doesn't care about 'gender diversity' or cryptocurrencies. These are non-issues that Trump uses to to stir up hatred and division for maintaining his power base, and to embezzle money out of them.

Ukraine might be the only valid referendum question, but Trump wouldn't like the answer.
Everybody would side with helping Ukraine against his buddy Vlad, so he'll never ask.
And they would certainly have something to say about his aggression and wars against Venezuela and Iran.

You offer a far higher benefit of the doubt than me. I read these encounters and poster behaviors as conscious muck raking with the clear desire for divisive outcomes and eroded trust across communities. The objective being a loosening of the stitches that hold the proverbial social quilt together. Toss topic bomb, watch ripples create destruction, leave until it’s time to later return and toss second grenade. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Moderator Note

We’re not doing this again. You’ve already opened threads on referendum-driven democracy; you can discuss the subject there.

There is also the issue of opening up a new topic while abandoning an existing discussion because you don’t want to have to clarify or support claims you’ve made.
