Can anyone help me with my dvdrw & audio on my pc please

Featured Replies

I have 2 issues on my pc since it came back from the shop a year ish ago.

They put windows 11 on it for me but the dvdrw has not read or been able to read any type of cd/dvd I put in it.

When I put the disc in & close the dvd tray it knows something is there, the 'thinking' or 'processing' cog shows for 2 seconds then stops.

I have tried getting the latest driver/s both through the inbuilt windows system & from HP themselves to no avail.

Windows 11 lies, it is not working properly (

The other issue is the audio going via hdmi from my tower to the tv. It simply won't. If I try to watch a something from my pc on the tv, the only sound I get is the tinny crappy

sound from the inbuilt pathetic speaker in the tower itself.

I have changed hdmi's, still nothing, it worked fine prior to windows 11 going on it.

I have seen indepth help from the web but the steps they offered are a bit beyond my knowledge. And I'm worried I might screw my pc up if I dabble too much.

Can anyone suggest anything or help me please?

Thanks

I have a Dell with that problem but it has Windows 10.

M$ said it could not be upgraded to Windows 11, when that came out despite their blandishments to the contrary.

~W10 and 11 are also a pain in the arse for other devices M$ would like to forget, like scanners and so on.

Try installing VLC Media Player or KM Player and see if it works then. Windows 11 apparently no longer has native support for DVD players. Install player, reboot and open a disk in the player interface.

I'm not a fan of w11 right now @studiot . W10 was better imo, at least my dvdrw & audio worked.

Thanks @Phi for All , I think my blinkers were on when I posted this & I missed the computer help section.

Thanks @StringJunky , I already have vlc on the pc, KM idk, can you elaborate please? Is it pricey? nevermind I just googled & found it I think.

Thanks for the pointer. Haven't dl'd KM yet, not sure if that will change things if vlc doesn't, or do you think it might?

Just tried vlc & it's the same message, please insert disc even though there is one in it.

Doesn't work for me either.

It's more basic than that, I can get the drawer open and then close it again but the w10 system insists there is no disk and won't open the drive again.

Thanks to SJ for reminding me of that.

I remember now finding taking your drive away to be another of the famous 'updates' M$ forces on you even for w10, so going back won't likely cure it either.

My pc will even open the draw itself with this issue.

So it knows it's there but not there... Maybe my dvdrw has become superpositional lol.

Look in the device manager and see what drives the computer has. Who knows, one of the cables might have been disconnected. Happens. It would still open and close without the data cable connected. If that doesn't work download a Manjaro iso and iso-usb it to a flash drive. Start it up in manjaro and see if it works there to guarantee a windows 11 software problem.
