The dangers of scientific and technological advancement

Featured Replies

Was being able to travel to the moon worth the invention of nuclear weapons? What checks are there on scientific and technological advancement leading to dangerous scenarios.

What has nuclear weapons got to do with travelling to the moon? I would have thought the more appropriate question would be: Was being able to travel to the moon worth the exoneration of Nazi scientists?

Are you OK? Your reasoning seems to be suffering from poor information.

You seem to suggest that progress should be abandoned. Are you Amish?

I'm not suggesting that, I'm just curious what's stopping technological progress from being used toward destructive ends, such as the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

It's certainly NOT conservative Christian Nationalists hoping to get a jump on Armageddon. I remember the horror of the possibility that Sarah Palin might end up with her finger on the button. The Bible seems to encourage nuking your enemies in God's name, so it seems we've avoided nuclear wars based on humane reasoning alone.

Military desires have long driven technological advances. Jet engines, radar, GPS are just recent examples.

So, basically, nothing has stopped it.
