Testing if vaccinated ?

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

Vaccines administered to infants, if have no records or have been lost by parents could be an inconvenient.   Is there a simple test to confirm if someone as infant received a vaccine ?  From what I know, when we reach adulthood we do not have a card telling what, when, where.  Memories from parents may not be reliable either.

Is administering to adults vaccines meant for kids a risk ?   A record card would have to be mandatory to keep with youngsters documents for life.  Is there such global proposal/initiative placing copies at several locations ?

Particularly you.  Do you know now as adult, what vaccines you received since birth; do you have a record card of such ?  How important would be to fix this void ?

Resistance to certain microorganisms can be checked at the medical center.. i.e. blood test to measure antibodies.

We have a saying "paper will accept anything" (it is even simpler if they are simply bits on a computer disk)..

Doubtful.

It is silly (premature) idea, since there is no even global ID card..

Do you have ID card in the U.S.?

Man would first have to be unified before such an incentive would have any sense of existence..

ps. Antivaxxers have even created an entire industry producing fake vaccine certificates for COVID-19..

The UK NHS does keep such a record, though I don’t know how reliable it is in all cases. There’s nothing “mandatory” about it for the citizen, but everyone has an NHS number and a medical record which in the past followed them from doctor to doctor when they changed location and registered with a new local doctor. Nowadays it is computerised.

Yes I do have identifiers.  Passport, driving license and many others in USA and from other countries.  Only two cards related to vaccines.

There are vaccination records in various formats in many countries, but you are right, they might get lost. In newer centralized systems (e.g. UK, Canada etc.) there is often a database, but if you are older or in a decentralized system, they might not be present.  However, there is an international version created by the WHO that has been around since the 70s or so. It is very recognizable yellow booklet in which vaccinations are recorded and which is internationally accepted.

For many vaccines, additional vaccinations have not shown any adverse effects (and some require refreshing anyway), so in doubt and especially if at risk, it might be worthwhile to update and document new vaccinations. Also note that vaccination schedules are different for infants, children and adults, so an unvaccinated adult generally is not just given an infant dose.
