Is breaking of garbage plastic product into microplastics by weathering a physical or chemical process or both?

It's said when plastic bottle contains any liquid microplastics will leach into it, what is the reason for this? Isn't plastic usually inert to most substances?

Microplastic is added in some products, like shampoo, hairdressing agents, washing powder, etc.

So it comes automatically in our water by using it.

Plastic Material itself has a long shelftime. But by sunlight, biological enzymes it will be destroyed over years down to small particles like microplastic itself.
