Iran and UFO's?

Featured Replies

What is it with Iran and UFOs? One of the most celebrated UFO reports came from Iran before the islamic revolution but evidently the Glowing lights have both increased in capabilities and aggressiveness? This video, contains some Iranian claims that are just out of this world and point to either aliens or some secrete US drones with some wild capabilities, either real or deceptive. Makes you wonder if the Nimitz sightings so talked about are part of some US drone capabilities we have yet to hear of and maybe just out of this world enough to even fool experienced pilots.

It doesn't take much to confuse the Iranian military.
Apparently their Ground-based Air Defense units are easily confused into thinking passenger planes, taking off from their own airport, are ALCMs.
Or is it too soon to be joking about that event.

Since several passengers on that plane were Canadians, maybe to be openly joking in public is not a great idea now, nor for a good while yet.

Yep. In 1988, against orders, the  captain of the USS Vincennes was in Iranian waters when an aircraft approached the vessel. The untrained crew mistook the Airbus A300 for a military aircraft. An easy mistake to make and it didn't damage his career.

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_C._Rogers_III

Quote

Rogers remained in command of USS Vincennes until May 27, 1989.[13] In 1990, Captain Rogers was awarded the Legion of Merit decoration "for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service as commanding officer ... from April 1987 to May 1989." The award was given for his service as the Commanding Officer of Vincennes, and the citation made no mention of the downing of Iran Air 655.

X-post with Migl.

But President R Reagan did, unofficially, apologize for the incident.
