IIIRC, it's attached to the bladder, but more as an anchor point. It only stretches so far, so if your belly gets bigger, the "button" becomes deeper.

Correct. It's attached to the bladder with the median umbilical ligament. On both sides of it, there's also a (2) medial umbilical ligament(s) and a (2) lateral umbilical ligament(s).

 

The round ligament of the liver (ligamentum teres hepatis) also runs towards the belly button, and represents an occluded umbilical vein (which is why medical students and surgeons are asked not to dissect the anterior wall of the abdomen at the right side of the belly button, with risk of cutting through the ligament)
