  1. China on North Korea's side? Sure, they both have slanty eyes and live right next to each other, but North Korea is just a pain to China. They have to give them electricity and food all the time. Of course, they could use it as an opprotune time to attack America, which I think they have been planning ever since they realized how dumb Clinton was and how easily they could take advantage of a country run by people like him. Sorry for going off topic.
  2. The IT and IP world is much more strict than everything else; we've seen far to many examples of this already.
  3. How do they work? I heard that equations based on the seed value are used. If so, do you have any examples of them?
  4. Who cares if getting oil from Iraq is a side bonus to freeing them, or freeing them is just a bonus of getting oil. There will come a time in the future when oil is in short supply, and I see now problem with getting a hold on some now as a precaution.
  5. Some of you people are pretty ridiculous. North Korea is run by a maniac who needs food and energy for his army and will have a fit until he gets it. And now he has nuclear weapons. This situation requires drastic action. We can't just sit around and wait for him to get even more desperate. And other countries would have to be crazy to not be with us on this one.
  6. ^except for things like patents and copyrights that would limit the production to only companies IBM and toshiba license the rights to.
  7. Heads up: I'm quite conservative and support Bush. That doesn't mean I think that North Korea should have been labeled as it was. Not saying that it's not true, but it wasn't really necessary or helpful. That also doesn't change the fact that Kim Jong Il is the whiny little child of the world. He can't get what he wants so he's making a fus. Unfortunately, his toys are nuclear bombs. My solution is a pretty direct, typical conservative one. Obviously invading is out because he would just fire the nukes on our soldiers, and we would have to fight a standing army of over a million crazy asians. We, however, have lots of nukes that can hit any point on this planet. What are the chances that the north koreans could detect our nukes coming and retaliate? Would their nukes even work? They admitted that they haven't been tested, and for all we know they don't even exists. And even if he lets one go on South Korea, tough. Sure, there would be a lot of people dieing in that situation, possibly including innocents in other nations. But as far as I see it, better them than us, and the North Korean might as well be dead living under that maniac anyway. All in all, Kim Jong Il is doing his best to limit our options when it comes to dealing with his country. He thinks that we will be forced to cooperate, but I don't think that Bush will give him that honor. Hopefully he will continue to pursue his goal of eliminating evil, even with all of the critiscism directed at the war in Iraq.
  8. I'm 16. I don't get a lot of exercise, but I don't think that I'm not physically fit. I did stop having gym class about a month ago, so maybe I'm not sleeping as soundly because I'm not as tired? But I feel plenty tired right now, more than I would have after gym My diet has been the same, and I never ate fast food and such in the first place. I'm a level 1 student, so I am doing school work but the amount has probably decreased a little since last semester (when I last had gym). I guess I'll have to do a little experimentation!
  9. If anything, all that would just piss people off and cause a revolution. People don't like being put out of work by machines, nor do people like giving money to others when they could get the same work done by something that doesn't need money.
  10. ^Not really. Imagine how big a difference a few mhz make when you are trying to find a prime number, or searching through DNA. So for a desktop machine it might not matter, but for someone who needs to compile a lot of code or do a lot of grunt work it gives an enormous advantage. And imagine if all programs could come as source. There would be no excuses like compiling time for people to use open source software. You could download the latest game for a few bucks, compile it, install, and start playing in a matter of minutes.
  11. I've been going to bed and getting up at the same time, but recently I am much more tired throughout the day. Sometimes I come home and take naps, which I never used to do. It also seems like I am dreaming more (or I am remembering them better I guess). They are a lot more vivid and kind of "hang around." Do you guys have any idea what may have caused this change? I'm not on any medications and I don't think I'm really stressed or depressed. Maybe you know a way to make sleep more restful? If this is in the wrong forum, then I apologize and a mod can move it at will; i'll find it.
  12. quid? wtf is that? speak english please.
  13. Once quantum computing is mastered the world as we know it will be changed drastically. Imagine every type of encryption system used today being made obsolete in an instant. As for cooling, there are better ways than heatsink/fan. There's water, liquid nitrogen, and even dry ice. The problem is protecting the surrounding parts from being damaged by these substances or any water in the atmosphere that they condense.
  14. How can I find out what mine is? Is there like a particular medical record that would have it?
  15. Everyone likes to think that if your mother's father is old and has all his hair, then you will have yours when you're old. Likewise, if he loses it, then you will lose yours too. I have a feeling this isn't true and that it really all has to do with genes. Do you guys know anything about this, or any other way I can tell if my hair will fall out?
  16. Starting in September next year I will be taking AP Calculus. Hopefully I won't need to bug you guys, but it's good to know you're here I was just wondering if you know of any good online resources that could get me started now. I figure that if I have a head start it will be a lot easier to handle next year when I have lots of other classes along with it. Of course, I also need to prepare for the AP test!
  17. I'm pretty sure that stupidity is the number one most common... thing.
  18. It would be easy for someone to modify the linux kernel to run on a new processor. So you can forget Windows, but don't discount running linux.
  19. http://www.smileglobal.com/contact.html Assuming that is the real originating address, then it seems to be pretty legit, not a scam. I second the recommendation of running a complete system scan with an up to date antivirus. You might also want to send an email to that address (abuse@smileglobal.com) and explain it to them as well. Maybe they can help, or at least stop sending you messages.
  20. Basically, the strong force over-rules the electromagnetic force and holds the protons together. Hence why it is called strong, as it is able to overcome the electromagnetic force.
  21. There are books about google. One that specifically stands out is like the "[some number] Google Hacks" that outlines some interesting things.
  22. I never split up my directory tree onto different partitions. It's really pointless to me. I would think that you could have them share a home directory though, provided you did have it in a seperate directory. At the very least, you can mount it and then create a link from the mount point to your /home. I highly suggest slackware. It is the best IMO. You should find the setup program quite easy. It just takes you through each portion of the set up, asking questions about what you want and providing various answers that you select with the keyboard. It's also pretty quick if you just do a full install and don't bother to pick and choose your packages. Full install is just about 2 gigs, which is like chump change today.
  23. Slashdot has bunches of articles on the subject. I'm sure that looking those up will give you lots of links to better resources. Also, maybe some people in the Quantum Physics forum will know more about it than in our humble Comp Sci.
