  1. They only thing I can say is to not even bother trying to sell computer parts. You will either be competing with a Vietnamese guy in California getting stuff shipped to him from relatives in the mother land (see pricewatch.com) or the likes of CDW, Dell, IBM, etc. In other words, there's really no room for a new guy. You could also try suing for being wrongly fired. Are you a minority? (OK, just kidding on this one).
  2. What did the fan lead look like? Was it a little dinky thing with tiny pins? If so, it's supposed to go on the mobo, not the power supply. however, you can get an adapter to run your fans off of the power supply. At least there was no permanent damage!
  3. Yeah I guess this forum is too smart!
  4. Sorry if you've heard this before. Three guys need to get a room for the night. The room costs $30 so they each chip in $10. After they get upstairs, the desk clerk realizes he made a mistake and the room should have only been $25, so he sends a bell hop up with $5 to give back to them. The bell hop decides that he's only going to give each guy $1 and keep the other $2 for himself, so that's what he does. So if each guy pays $10 and gets $1, then it's like they only payed $9. So 9 * 3 = 27. Add the $2 that the bell hop has and you get $29 for the room. Where did the other dollar go? I'm pretty sure I know it, but I'm not to sure of my explaination (which may mean I don't reall have it?). Plus I'd wait for you guys to respond anyway.
  5. I remember seeing a discussion on Slashdot about using alcohol for cleaning. The general consensus was to let it dry completely first do to some reactions that might take place and stuff. Plus the isopropyl alcohol you get at the drug store is mostly water anyway, and water can conduct electricity.
  6. ^Please stop. You obviously know nothing about linux and are only detracting from the thread. Albert, can you describe the device more? What do you mean by wireless? Like, is it a NIC for your wireless internet? Also, what is the name/brand of the device? One quick answer might be that some developer wrote a driver for it, which has been automatically included in your kernel.
  7. Dvorak rules. I am a typing master now.
  8. I don't see why you couldn't open this using your swap space. The problem is the size of the windows page file... it needs to have a larger limit. I would prefer to do it in linux. You can create a swap partition of whatever size you need, and the text editors are better. Plus, the program will probably run quicker.
  9. I took all my keys off when I rearranged the board from QWERTY to DVORAK. Unscrew the thing and take it apart. You can then push the key(s) off from the back. Then put everything in the dishwasher (sans the circuit board; take that off first) Once it's clean, pop the key(s) back in, put everything back together, and viola.
  10. Also, could you explain what a QSL card is? I hear lots about them but don't really know what they are. My guess is something that proves you've talked with a certain person.
  11. Cool. I'm checking out upcoming hamfests to maybe get some gear. What frequencies does CB run on?
  12. Get a cable modem? Lol, at first I thought you were making some joke about a 'Pentium 111,' now I realize you probably meant III, as in 3. You do have a hardware modem, and not a stupid winmodem? I would make sure you have all the latest drivers for it. After that, check the actual phone lines in your house. Make sure the ends aren't loose or anything, and make sure you have a good connection with the wall.
  13. Is anyone here an amateur radio operator? Like, short wave, 2 meter, etc, or even CB? I'm pretty interested in it right now, even though I don't have any equipment. I was just wondering if there are any hams here.
  14. Screw you guys! I'm goin' home! I love this! I've never seen it before, on any forum.
  15. I get deja vu all the time. But it's not usually so detailed that I know what's going to happen. It's like, after something happens I realize that I've been through this before.
  16. Also, if your teacher is a stickler for putting the state of the chemicals, don't forget that.
  17. I know a lot of linux users do some pretty wild and good looking things with their desktops, but mine is just the plain, default Enlightenment look.
  18. It's probably just carbon RAM, which we've known has been in developement for a while.
  19. If there are such things as monitor drivers, then they are now obsolete. In the end, all monitors take the same instructions.
  20. Mine is the logo for Slackware Linux. One reason why is the fact that I like that particular operating system. The other is that it begins with an S, just like my psuedonym.
  21. I've never heard of a monitor driver. And that's because they don't exst. What you need is an updated driver for your graphics card. Then get the manual for you monitor and look up it's limits for resolution, horizantal sync, vertical sync, refresh rate, etc, and make sure that you don't go above those.
  22. Microsoft AntiSpyware is the best program out there for getting rid of the particularly virulent spywares. It allows you to see all the browser help objects installed with IE (the way a lot of spyware gets in) and remove it without question. It can also stop any running process and stop any programs from running at start up. One look through these areas in the program will show you processes and programs in the startup that you won't find through task manager or the registry (I don't know why). You can also reclaim IE after it has been hijacked with the click of a button. There are also some unrelated but mentionable features that let you "clear your tracks" from a bunch of programs, including IE, WMP, and windows explorer. As for actually removing spyware, it might not remove as many as adaware (so you should run both) but the features I've already mentioned more than compensate. Now, I know that lots of people don't like Microsoft. And believe me, I'm no fanboy; I run linux most of the time. But in this case it's a Microsoft product that really gets down and dirty with the spyware and provides the most features, so I recommend it. And really, Microsoft just bought out a small software company and modified there software, which is why it doesn't look like what you would expect from MS. Just give it a try and I'm sure you'll like it.
  23. Or just have someone trained in the car's electronics on hand at the shop.
  24. ^That's ridiculous. Right now mine only has the ones in the PSU (which don't really count) and the one on the CPU heatsink. That's it; I've even replaced the northbridge fan with a passive heatsink.
