  1. Hmmm. I wouldn't call it nodding to pubic opinion, rather than acceding to the fact that the justice system in America was based on the English court of law which has since repelled the death penalty. Draconian punishment had it's place in society, however it's no longer a viable or agreeable method in the eyes of the international court. I feel this type of politically motivated decision fits with Americas attempt to present itself on the international stage as the Boy Scout, and not a vengeful and vindictive cowboy.
  2. Peace! Stability! Democracy! Murders! Lawlessness! Terror! Anarchy! Fear! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4310365.stm Whooo! Go team warmonger!
  3. I love that. Assuming the world was as simple as a 10 year old perceives it.
  4. I'm sorry, I'm not really sure what your questions are.
  5. Melting the snow is really not something you'd want to do
  6. What are you talking about?
  7. What if, what if, what if? What if giant space zombie Jesus popped out of your navel demanding corn puffs? Oh my god, could you imagine that?
  8. In Middle English, it hold the same meaning. The Church altered the meaning through association, and the common usage changed as language moved into the 15th century. Consequently it's not the best example of Aramaic mistranslation.
  9. I had a chemistry teacher who was on a warning from the headteacher so consequently was stressed out by any disruptions in a class. The government ofsted inspectors were down the corridor and he couldn't get the class to be quiet. So he pursued the only reasonable course of action, and threw an oak desk at the loudest of the students. Cue a very quiet class when the inspectors walked in, spoilt only by a bleeding student sprawled on the floor. Nicely handled, I think you'll agree.
  10. I'd be interested how you know so much about feudal Europe, it's rites and customs. Perhaps you could lead with the pagan introduction to Christianity and the resultant formation of such cults as Satanism in the more western areas of Europe. I'm very intrigued how you link atheism to a religious movement the core of which resides in the Catholic faith and pagen sprites. Seriously, do tell.
  11. I found myself more interested in Jeremy Rifkin's view of Europe, as he's a economist.
  12. Perhaps it is a little harsh. Perhaps Nevermore will actually present his homework as 'something I got some guys off the internet to write for me'. Perhaps, but what would be the point?
  13. Good Afternoon. In this weeks show, we bring you the lesser used skills of the intractable debater: - Ignorance is bliss, if you can't respond to a statement just ignore it. If you do, it's bound to just go away. Gross over exaggeration, why not use it to highlight your complete lack of understanding? Handwaving. In all situations a good bout of handwaving usually clears away all those counterpoints. Invention. If your opponents haven't presented a point you can argue against, just make some shit up. Blind denial. If you can be bothered to read back to what was posted earlier, why should anyone else? Just keep recycling the same nonsense, and nobody will be the wiser. Gibbering. If you can't be bothered making sense, don't worry. The opposition will simply assume that is their problem, for not sufficiently grasping your point of view. Ignore sources. If the voices in your head cannot give adequate testimony, just deny the real life sources have any more credibility. Try to use smiles in every post because no matter how many you use they can't possibly make you look crazy .
  14. You thought we could write it for you? Can't you put this in the homework thread, possibly retitle it to 'laborious piece of work I can't be bothered to do myself'?
  15. Why is it a red herring? The cases make trial, and the decisions in court don't agree with your point of view. How is your opinion made vaild? They attest to the opposite. Can you explain how you came to the conclusion that they do not? As the links provided, children are being forced to recite the pledge without regard of rights or priviliges. Can you explain why the evidence presented is invalid? Can you expalin why the court has ruled in these cases towards the plaintive, never once towards the school? Well, overstating perhaps. But it's to emphisise a point. No offence intended, it's not a severe form of indoctrination any more than adverts for Coke are.
  16. Yeah' date=' it was a bit late and I was tired so I as a bit snappy. Sorry about that. Your right, but it's the BNP that have tainted the flag and not religious considerations. No, nobodys saying remove all reference to God. That's not the point. What is happening in American is that Children are being forced (despite the law) to recite the pledge: - http://www.ffrf.org/awards/heroine/1998_durkee.php http://www.aclusandiego.org/fallbrookwebpage.htm MaryKait in the above links was forced to sue her school to protect her rights. That's really not allowing people to 'opt out' of the pledge. It may be a little hard to understand, being from Britain, but the fundamentalist chrisitans in America are using the pledge of alligence to indoctrinate children.
  17. Charles, the Prince of Wales, is the proxy head of the Church of England. I can't see the Archbishop of Canterbury having any say in the matter.
  18. Phi, with all due respect, everbody knows that this sort of thing can be cleared up with a random online test: - http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/sleep/profiler/ Normally I'd suggest one that involves some sort of newsletter a nice little results fee, but I've got some bonbons to eat. I'm sure you understand.
