  1. Yes, funnily enough the problems associated with the ageing process affect the brain as well as the body. A healthy person will only have 90% of his brain function at 70 years old and decrease year on year from there. Not counting that fact you cannot transplant a brain as the nerve cells do not regrow in the ganglion nerve and/at/or the spinal column. Or the cumulative damage the brain accumulates during one lifetime with drinking ,accidents and illness.
  2. More British troops were killed in the last conflict in Iraq by Americans than by the Iraqis. Think yourselves lucky that we will still turn up in the same country at all! The liaisons between the UK military forces and the Americans are strong and dependable because we a long history of working together in exercises as well as conflicts. The American military rely on the British for training the 'elite' squadrons such as the Delta Force as the SAS is a world renowned organisation, for instance they planted 70% of the targeting devices that the smart bombs homed in on in the last conflict. Plus they speak english, which is a plus for the Americans. The UK army is trained in a variety of enviorments such as desert warfare in Turkey, Cyprus and North Africa, whereas the US army is trained in Montanna and the like (which just isn't the same effect). Just ask a member of the US forces how they view the UK and you'll find that they admire the UK and respect their abilities. I'm not being nationalistic here, it's just we have one of the superior armed forces in the world. It just happens to be smaller than America! If you want size, go size up China and Russia.
  3. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/2789355.stm Looks like the American position is becoming untenable. With 70% of the UK public apposed to the war, we may yet withdraw support and leave the US with no viable course of action other than to commit genocide. Again.
  4. Well, seeing as Sadam has been trying to develop nuclear ability since 1978 I don't think a couple more weeks will swing the balance, especially as he has weapon inspectors crawling through his country. Plus where exactly is this 'market' for illegal weapons? I was under the impression that if you wanted weaponry you just approached America, UK or Germany with a wish list. Why would a communist country want to sell nuclear weapons? They are communist, not capitalist. Incidently the range of the missiles was imposed when 1441 was passed, which could explain why they were overlooked as it was a recent change. Plus the missiles are next to useless unless Iraq want to commit suicide by randomly attacking Jordan, Israel, Syria, Saudi Arabia or god help us Iran.
  5. I'm having real trouble thinking of a genuine reason behind cloning, the benefits are severely undermined as we can reproduce quite well already. With the mapping of the Genome almost complete we can happily manipulate the DNA to our hearts content. Using some sort of clone ship to travel to far off reaches of space is bizarre, what advantages would a clone have over a G.E. spaceman? Pre engineered samples set aside for production of the next set of crew would make the process a lot easier. Clones are only any use if the memorys can be transplanted across to the clone, which is impossible. Cloning humans serves no real purpose, other than massaging our egos. Unless your looking to build a either a sub species of humans to deal with the menial tasks that people are less willing to do each generation, or an elite section of humanity to govern, influence and generally ponce around like David Essex.
  6. Well, let's hope that forcing a democratic system into the decision at least slows the willingness to sentance half a million troops and civilians to death long enough to allow support from Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran or Bahrain to be gained. After all, they are the countrys directly connected to Iraq, there support would probably be a good thing to be sure of before imposing a war on their doorstep.
  7. Apparently the dress down Friday rule doesn't extend to the false moustaches that staff close to sadam are forced to wear. This has caused dissent among the staff who feel that having a Hawaii Friday on the last Friday of the month doesn't make up for the increased risk of becoming the target of a failed assassination attempt. However, the last team building event at the Bowling ally whent down a storm. The one objection was silenced by a free bar, from 7 till 8 on bottled drinks only, and a 40 lashes of the cat'o'nine tails.
  8. Plans for this flag of the lost island of Atlantis were not well received.
  9. A nice little thread to post your favourite flag pictures onto. Popular with Americans this type of thing.
  10. PogoC7, why don't you pop off and create a pro America thread, I really think you are missing the point of this one. I'm not even going to ask why you were browsing articles on that particular surgical enhancement.
  11. For the sweet love of sanity, why??? A giant flag? Why? Is that your idea of biting counterpoint? What is that flag anyhow, Liberia? Puerto Rico?
  12. Protomonkey, make me a protomonkey. Size of your thumb, fit's in your pocket, It's teeth are sharp, in case you mock it. Teach it to dance or teach it to sing, a protomonkeys just the thing!
  13. Yes, as we are in the interglacial period. Wait until after dinner.
  14. Actually I was looking at http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?articleID=0007E95C-9597-1DC9-AF71809EC588EEDF&catID=2 and there is again evidence of creating catchy phrases, see the prominent nod towards cooking in this article. Journalists are being given enough information to make a fun story, Woman/Cooking/Physics/Einstein. Mind you, I guess you have to do that sort of thing to get grants nowadays.
  15. What? Are you suggesting that Ice Cream cones are less developed and have more in common with goats cheese? Do you think the enjoyment of music is limited to less developed dairy products? You worry me.
  16. Design your own ring, and have a jeweller make it for you. It usually works out to be about $60, $40 for the silver and $20 for labour. Keep it simple, and it's easy to make. It'll impress your GF more if you have a ring made for her that's hallmarked and solid silver. But be careful not to accidentally propose to her! Have it engraved on the inside with a message, just to keep it out of engagement territory. By the way, your ring will probably not be silver unless it is hallmarked. You can have it checked out by a jeweller but it will take a week to send off and get it back.
  17. What? Are you suggesting that African tribes are less developed and have more in common with cromagnum man? Do you think the enjoyment of music is limited to less developed countrys? You worry me.
  18. As Lloyds of London, and the other UK insurance companies represent the majority of insurance and underwriters across the globe, I wonder how much the US owes us? No wonder Bush describes it as a Special Relationship between the UK and US, we appear to be buying the beer. Perhaps if there was less tea chucked into harbours the debt would reduce somewhat.
  19. Isn't the question 'should we go to War with Iraq', not 'should America go to war with Iraq'? The war should, and probably will, be spearheaded by the UN . It is an international effort and not the effort of a single man (Bush jnr). A discussion about the merits of America re-establishing itself as the worlds policeman is another discussion entirely. So the points should be arranged around what is hoped to be achieved by a war in Iraq, what is feasible and what is acceptable to be risked. It is also not a discussion about terrorism, as Iraq has not been directly involved in terrorist activities so far as we are currently aware. I personally feel this is a balance of human life and the morals behind the proposed war, has the situation reached a point of no return where an armed solution is the only solution?
  20. Well, it's probably because I'm tired but this sounds a little showbiz for a serious theory. The references to lumpyness sound as though Markopoulou is trying to create catch phrases, to grab media attention with a theory that cannot be tested until 2006. Mind you, I hate physics theorys. The 'lumpyness' descibes the proposed experiments with a NASA satellite to track gamma-ray photons from as far away as feasable. If the theory works, then individual photons should travel at slightly different speeds, depending on their wavelength. That would make bumps I suppose. But your right, it dosen't explain the dispersion, just makes pointers towards quantum gravity. Apparently that's a good thing, but as I said, I hate physics theorys.
