  1. The FBI was warned of the Tsarnaev brothers by Russian intelligence..no investigation. Tashfeen Malik pledged alligance to ISIS on facebook...no actions/ investigation. This recent shooter in Orlando, told his co-workers that he wanted to kill Americans, and supported Hezbollah. No action/ investigation. This goes along with all the mentally ill domestic terrorists who post similar things on social media and no action is taken. What source said he was "mentally ill"..unless radical religious beliefs are "mental illness"...then yes, high five.
  2. IMO, there needs to be far more efficient vetting processes for terrorist suspects. It seems the FBI gets a look at these suspects, and then walks away. The last couple of terrorist attacks all had previous signs of suspicion, either with tips from foreign governments or FBI investigations. If these terrorists cant get their hands on firearms, explosives are the next choice. Boston bombings anyone? ~EE How many of these are gang related, with the criminals getting the firearms illegally? Chicago alone has double digit deaths over the weekend via gang violence.
  3. Can anyone muster, even a slight, non-joking, scientific theory that can explain as to how the car works? Use best of your knowledge in quantum physics or whatever is required to explain it.. ~EE
  4. I did it outside, with full lab attire (goggles, coat, gloves) and in very small quantities. What other way is there to see if solution A is acidic or not?
  5. I uploaded some pictures of the "unknown red liquid" along with it reacting with some lye. As you can see the reaction created a yellow product. pH indicator most likely?...methyl red?
  6. His uncle was a chemist at DuPont, and he gave him the chemicals (not sure why). He passed away years ago, and he gave me the chemicals when he said he was going to toss them.
  7. I'm thinking its a methyl red and ethanol solution. The guy seemed to have alot of indicator stuff. Not sure how I'd measure the gas volume. I'll post pictures tomorrow.
  8. I got a crate of chemicals from my neighbor, most were unlabeled. I found glass bottle of a red liquid. I mixed it with sodium hydroxide, and the solution bubled and turned yellow. Me thinks this is probably methyl red or some kind of pH indicator. Thoughts? ~EE
  9. Esterification reaction. Understanding the mechanism is up to you...
  10. ehhh I was just assume an egalitarian democracy with a mixed economy....
  11. Yea, my bad. I confused this with a study that engineered plants to withstand high salt conditions.
  12. Yes, this had already been done. Vegetables and fruits have even been modified to lengthen the amount of time it takes to ripen.
  13. Plot twist: Everyone on this thread is the same person
  14. According to wikipedia, the energy density of coal is from 26-49 MJ/L. Meanwhile, for wood, it's only 13 MJ/L. Is this because of the tight molecular structure of coal, compared to the pentose rings lined adajcent in wood (cellulose, lignocellulose?). ~EE
  15. How do you catch people who use more than one account? Similarity in post content, IP address? ~EE
  16. I see what you're saying, lol I wasn't either are responsible for traffic incidents. It's a nice analogy
  17. So if the far right causes the traffic jam, wouldn't the far left be the frustrated drivers who speed past the jam, and cause an accident?
  18. I'm not concerned about rape or pedophilia in women's showers and bathrooms..this was clearly stated. Honestly, it seems more of a straw man argument, and its not why I'm not in favor of this legislation.
  19. I really respect this community alot, and love the discussion of scientific ideas...so hopefully this will be my first and last thread on a political topic. People who are advocating public restrooms, locker rooms and showers all seem to use the same scenario in defending their position: "Well, if a pedophile or rapist wanted to molest or rape someone, what's stopping them from walking into a woman's bathroom or shower and doing it?". Firstly, it's illegal, so I think it's going to deter a large percentage of the rapists/ molesters out there. Secondly, its not normalized for a man to walk into a women's restroom or shower. So, when a man does this, it kinda it sticks out. I am not objecting to this because "women and girls are going to get molested and raped en masse"...no. I'm more concerned that some perv will claim he feels like a woman will take advantage of the situation. I'm concerned a perv, young or old, will expose himself to my daughter in the bathroom or shower. I'm worried about some guy gawking at my wife or gf in the shower. I'm not opposed to transgender bathroom legislation..there's more than one way to go about this. I'm against allowing a situation where a man will say he feels like a woman, so can walk into the same bathroom, locker room or shower as my daughter and use it for his own fantasies. ~EE
  20. Usually through free radical addition. GGG.bmp
  21. I've distilled it before, but with an all glass distillation kit...never with rubber stoppers.
  22. Firstly, you have to know what's killing the coral organisms. Is a lower pH killing coral reefs, or perhaps a synthetic chemical or a foreign organism that was introduced to the population? Then you genetically modify the coral so that the antagonistic force cannot harm it. This all works well in a test tube, but relative to the massive size of the oceans and reef populations, its extremely difficult, and may be impossible. It's akin adding ozone to the atmosphere to reduce global warming. Difficulty in accomplishing this boils down to 3 reasons: Cost, keeping the genetic variant consistent among the population, and implementation of the variants. It;s probably possible in small populations near coastlines. However, deep in the ocean its pretty much unrealistic. ~EE
  23. Trying to synthesize nitric acid, but I only have a distillation kit with a rubber stopper..would this be an issue? I've heard NA under 80% isn't that bad, but experience is far more valued. ~EE
