  1. new program new problem. : P this one is particularly frustrating, because so far its almost exactly the same program, but with some variables changes, and methods altered a little bit. its giving me a null pointer exception and i cant figure out why. import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; import java.awt.Image.*; public class sudokuWork extends Frame { nineGrid[][] grids= new nineGrid[3][3]; Image theBuffer; Graphics BGraphic; boolean newEqu=true; public sudokuWork() { //set up the menu bar MenuBar menuBar = new MenuBar(); Menu menuFile = new Menu(); MenuItem menuFileExit = new MenuItem(); MenuItem menuFileNew= new MenuItem(); menuFile.setLabel("File"); menuFileExit.setLabel("Exit"); menuFileNew.setLabel("New"); // Add action listener.for the menu button menuFileExit.addActionListener ( new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { sudokuWork.this.windowClosed(); } } ); menuFileNew.addActionListener ( new ActionListener(){ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){ newEqu=true; } } ); menuFile.add(menuFileNew); menuFile.add(menuFileExit); menuBar.add(menuFile); setTitle("Sudoku!"); setMenuBar(menuBar); setSize(new Dimension(500, 500)); setVisible(true); // Add window listener. this.addWindowListener ( new WindowAdapter() { public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e) { sudokuWork.this.windowClosed(); } } ); theBuffer= createImage(getWidth(),getHeight()); BGraphic= theBuffer.getGraphics(); } public void play() { initializeGrid(); do { System.out.println("wtf is it doing here?"); drawButtons(BGraphic); paint(getGraphics()); }while(true); } public void paint(Graphics g) { if(BGraphic == null) { System.out.println("BGraphic is null"); } else { try { g.drawImage(theBuffer,0,0,this); } catch(Exception e) { System.out.println("problem drawing image because" + e.toString()); } } } private void initializeGrid() { System.out.println("initializing the grid"); for(int i=0; i<=2;i++) { for(int p=0; p<=2; p++) { System.out.println(i + " " + p); try { grids[i][p].initialize(30*i,30*p); } catch(Exception e) { System.out.println("problem because" + e.toString()); } } } } private void drawButtons(Graphics BGraphic) { for(int i=0; i<=2;i++) { for(int p=0; p<=2; p++) { grids[i][p].draw(BGraphic); } } } protected void windowClosed() { // TODO: Check if it is save to close the application // Exit application. System.exit(0); } public void pause(long milliPause)// leave this alone! // continues to query the system for the time until the first time - current time // exceeds the long passed into the function { long start = System.currentTimeMillis(); while(System.currentTimeMillis()-start < milliPause) { // do nothing } } } the error is occuring on line 122 where it says grids[p].initialize(30*i,30*p); (in the initialize grid method near the bottom) if i skip over that it hits the same problem at line 139 where it says grids[p].draw(BGraphic); any help would be appreciated.
  2. "at least"... lmao thats not an "at least" system. thats a top of the line system. what more are you gonna add to that? another gig of ram? 3.6ghz? you can get by just fine with any game that is currently out with far less than that. for example: 2.0 ghz pentium 4 512 ram nvidia geforce 4 mx was my system a few months ago, and it did every game i tried on it. i now have 2.8 ghz 1gig ram ati x600 all in wonder and yeah, everything is a little prettier, but theres no games my new system can handle but my old one couldnt.
  3. how reliable it is depends on the credibility of the site you use. ive never heard of that one, and so i dont know how legit it is.
  4. by checking your particular specifications/ users manual? i dont know. as IA mentioned, laptops arent really meant to be easily upgraded, its hard to say.
  5. i think you can upgrade things like that on a laptop. however, laptops are a complete PITA to take appart. whats more, they are a pain to get back together too. in my computer repair class, i was congradulated by my teacher for only having a few screws left over when i was done. it can be done tho. if you decide to, just make sure you remember where, and how, and with which screws, each piece goes back on. you will likely have to move other components out of the way, so you have a lot of screws to turn and a lot to keep track of. or, i could be wrong and it could be your gfx are completely imbedded and cant be replaced : D

    Knockin'

as long as it still gets the wood nymphs' attention so they know you are seeking thier blessing im sure it should be fine. http://ask.yahoo.com/20040504.html
  7. yes, everything works now. as for seeing windows files from knoppix... thats why you make the HDD the primary boot device and put a password on your bios. and then pray they dont have access to the box to unplug your battery for 10 seconds : P
  8. i unplugged everything, put my graphics card back, turned it on, and it worked fine. then i added my sound card and my wireless card. (leaving out my secondary graphics card) and it still works. i dont know if it was the other card, or loose connections. when i say it will only boot in safe mode, i mean if i use regular mode it doesnt get past the windows loading screen. no error message. it just stops moving, and i know i wasnt just being slow because i left it like that while i went and watched a movie and it didnt get past it.
  9. i have my doubts... but this is really annoying, so ill give it a shot.
  10. my computer overheated and shut itself off yesterday. it worked fine afterwords, i thought it was just a fluke. it did it again today so i took it apart and cleaned off the CPU heatsink, which was covered in so much dust i doubt there was any airflow at all. i put it all back together again and now it wont start unless its in safemode. it gets to the windows screen (with the scrolling blue bars) and then they stop scrolling. if i start in safe mode it has no problems at all. im normally pretty good about fixing this stuff myself, but i cant even figure out where to start on this one.
  11. there is no way to prove that they feel the same, but there is also no reason to assume that they dont. this same argument can be made for any of our senses. you dont know that my "red" looks the same as yours, but who really cares? the meaning is still there. why would you think that happiness feels different for them? is there a genetic code that differs from person to person that would make it feel different?
  12. that just seems wrong. i think youd end up with some traumatized children, but i cant put my finger on why, which means its probably just the taboo kicking in : P
  13. "...and you laugh, and the dog laughs, and i die a little bit inside."
  14. the sex ed i went through covered diseases, anatomy (and how to actually do the deed), various forms of contraception (including abstinance), as well as how to put on a condom. not too bad in my book : P i disagree with the idea of parents deciding if their kids get sex ed. i know this is sort of an invasion of privacy, but if a parent is trying to shelter their kid THAT much i dont think they should have as much of a say in what the kid learns. i think it goes the other way, atheist. what about all the heavily religious parents who dont want their kids to know about the horrible sin that is sex? its much harder to keep a kid brainwashed when they get the actual facts from someone.
  15. i think that depends on your definition of the word "well". i personally think they are very bad actors. they dont just have to act like teenagers... thats easy, they are teenagers. they have to make it seem like they actually have the reactions and emotions that go along with each scene. thats what acting is, and they are terrible at it. anyway... i still dont see why this is such a horrible thing. teenagers drink. 15 is certainly earlier than i started drinking, but my brother started drinking at 15 or 16. i know a lot of people at my school started earlier than that. you dont even know that shes drinking excessively (generally the way it is done in american highschool and college parties) and im guessing shes probably not, based purely on the fact that the UK takes a much smarter approach on introducing children to alcohol;by letting them drink at home it gives the opportunity for their parents to supervise it starting much earlier than most americans. i know my mom wasnt there the first time i drank, i also know that i spent a reasonable amount of time that night with my head in the toilet. drinking with some friends isnt being a horrible role model. its taking a reasonable approach to alcohol.
  16. you can find a few more, but that one seems to be the most common. http://www.egotastic.com/entertainment/celebrities/emma-watson/emma-watson-drinks-beer-000980 (and in california its soda)
  17. i didnt find your hints very subtle at all. : P ive never heard of anyone putting ketchup on their chips, only french fries. (and plenty of people over 10 and under 35 call it pop. its called oregon. or most places in the midwest for that matter) buuuuut. back to good ol emma watson. why must it be a publicity stunt because she was drinking and happens to be a celebrity? are you telling me none of your friends have ever taken pictures at a party, or while drinking? and yet again, not underage drinking, since the legal limit is age 5, she is not underage to be drinking in the privacy of her own home.
  18. potatoe chips are perfectly fine, just like french fries, as long as you dont ruin them by pouring a nasty bottle of vinegar all over them. ive never heard of lemon soda, but if you said that here what would come to mind is a lemon flavored carbonated drink (like sprite or 7up is a lemon lime soda). lemonade would be non-carbonated; hopefully homemade as a mixture of freshly squeezed lemons, water, and some sugar.
  19. this is what i got to before i decided i was wasting my life.
  20. the legal age for purchasing is 18, but what about consuming in the privacy of your own home? (or that of your parents) edit: i cant believe i put "perchasing" also, what in the bloody hell is "a shandy" and what are "crisps"?
  21. 1. who cares? drinking is not the devil. 2. shes british. whats the legal drinking age in britain? the only place i can find says that children 5 and over are allowed to drink as long as its not on licensed premises (they can drink at home), but it doesnt look like a very official site. so.... shes not breaking any laws, shes having some fun, drinking with some friends... why do we care again?
  22. the solution is to have your partner rub your nipples during sex. and for gods sake, wash the thing!
  23. ive never heard about the ice, but i know your keyboard is far dirtier than your toilet seat. think about it... how often do you clean your keyboard, compared to your toilet?
  24. a dogs mouth has plenty of bacteria, just not much that is harmful to humans. so, since the myth is for humans, saying that the dogs mouth is cleaner is perfectly reasonable, because as far as were concerned, it is.
