What is the normal sort of size of ice shelf break up during the anual spring thaw?? It'd be interesting to find out - as JohnB said - this does happen all the time, every year during the spring thaw.

If you can work out the force on the object from the air pressure then you are away. You can use F=Ma to get accelaration. Then use the standard equations of motion to work out velocities, distances etc.. Type "equations of motion" into google.

Norway in the north will be way below zero! Being honest - I do not know about Botswana - it's very hot in the day but I do believe it gets very cold in the African deserts at night, so I don't know about this one, I would guess that it's abouve freezing though. (?).

When asked if something is a wave or a particle many physicists would answer both. But equally correctly you could answer neither. If something is a wave, then by the classical definitions, it cannot also be a particle. Clasically they are distincy and seperate things. Consequently saying something is "both" can be a bit confusing, sometimes. If you say it is neither a wave, nor a particle, but is in fact a third 'thing', which somehow combines both wave and particle properties in one, then you'll be getting at the right thing.

 

I always say it TRAVELS as a wave and HITS as a particle - which it does.

wrt the drugs - long long ago this was seen as sorcery (outlawed in those times) as people who went onto 'magical' trances (drug induced obviously). So still not new - just new terminology - the 'sin' is just the same.

Modern christian churches very fortunately edit the bible, and carefully select from it what they teach. After all, the bible teaches that homosexuals be put to geath, 'witches' be killed, adulterers be stoned to death, most seafood be banned from the diet, that slavery is OK, and there is nothing wrong with polygamy.

Being fair - thats only the old testiment, which was superseeded by the new - which preaches repentance and forgiveness rather than the stoning and burning. Oh and we can eat pretty much anything now. But I still hate black pudding.

I have read about Worms and Rats actually inheriting memory from their ancestors that learnt mazes. Offspring of rats which had previously learnt a maze with food at the end of it apparently learnt the maze quicker than those whose parents had never seen the maze. However I think that this work may have been discredited and maybe proved false - I'll have to try and find some refferences rather than using my memory..

i think some groups even took things a bit too far and mushed up some rats that had run a maze and then fed them to other rats. Supposedly the rats that eat the rats that had already run the maze learnt the maze quicker. Again - could be BS though - I've never seen any properly published work - just web chat. I'll have a search arround when I get more time.

Obviously I would say that any mistreatment of the waste is ethically wrong. But how can nuclear power be ethically wrong on it's own? Especially when we are all concerned about the use of our rapidly declining stocks of fossil fuels.

I got Ben Hogan's 5 lessons "The Modern Fundimentals of Golf". He takes a scientific approch to golf. I read this book when I was 18 years old and and shot a 66 gross (4 under par) a week later. (normwlly shoot in the 70's). I took up golf again about a year ago and have been shooting in the 70's/80's. I read this book again last month and shot 69 a couple of weeks ago (2 under at this course). I want to keep his methods in mind and keep practicing to see if I can keep the form going and break par more often this year.

I appreaciate not everyone like golf - but if you do then READ THIS BOOK! Ben Hogan spent his whole life experimenting with different golf swings and came up with standard methods which hold up under pressure of competition or playing for money.

I agree - I think the author doesn't really know what they are talking about - of course it has a cause! It happens to make the nucleus more stable as Klaynos said.

Believable or not, it definately says in Revalations that one day no-one will be able to buy or sell without the mark. i.e. if you don't get the chip, you don't get to go shopping. It also says that they mark (the chip) will go under the skin on the hand or in the forehead - which is exactly the place 'they' are planning to make you have the chips installed. Could just be co-incidence though!?

(NB - I'm keeping my personal beliefs out of this - I'm just stating what the book says).

being fair to Mr Branson - I saw a TV interview with him sunday morning - he stated that it was an experiment to prove that their are alternate possibilites - they know their biofuel isn't the final answer, their test was just to show/prove that alternative CAN be used. They are hoping to develop their ideas further and come up with something sustainable and 'greener' than kerosine - it cant be a bad thing in the long run.

Yea I suppose so - you apply logical method to get the hidden information out - so I suppose you could call it a science?

I still like the sentance "All knowledge is science". It may be a bit pretentious but is true when you break it down. Any fact or statement can be broken down and explained scientifically I believe.

Even history - OK the study of history may not be science (although science is employed with geophysics for example), but the actually things studdied like, for example, a castle building or a war period include science (lots of science in war - lots of science in constructing a building).
