  1. sounds interesting, but quite how water can be de-oxygenated is a mystery to me its open to the air all the time, but it says in the article, wtvr, u can read it, just sounds unusual, or more, unporbable, to me!
  2. i can only hope so, there hasnt been much action as such recently, on the space front! only the un-manned things to mars, about time theres some action there! this seems like a good beginning, lets all cheer it on! seriously!
  3. there are multiple theories about the uiverse and its beginning and ending: there are three main theories about it all. one theory that there will be a big crunch, only a theory though, the other two theories are that, in the end the universe will stop expanding and stay still, and the other that the universe will keep expanding forever. each theory has proof, although i dont know all of it, those are the three main, credited theories!
  4. i have to say, that it is highly unlikely, and as far as i can see, totaly impossible that light could ever become solid, dense maybe, but not that it would make a difference, to how we see it! however, there is one way: which is questioning the theory of photons! as we are not certain what light is, as from the two famous experiments, light acts as a wave, and a particle, in different situations! so maybe it can do other things, which we still dont know about. however this is highly unlikely, so i must say, as novitas said, it seems the case is closed!
  5. if God exists, He could hardly have evolved, the whole concept of God is supernatural, NOT HUMAN, therefore he would not necesarily evolve, after all, He is all perfect, all powerful etc. therefore, He wouldnt need to change and evolve!
  6. nice website, good find! biological clocks always fascinated me, but as biology was not my subject, i never followed up my interests in it! i prefer chem / physics! i suppose, theyre very useful things to have! [biological clocks!] saved coquina on a fare few occasions i dare say!
  7. what i meant is that, if someone made a program, which looked for a power source, remember you dont know whats been programed to the public, and you, it would look as though the program was thinking, looking fo "food", which seems like AI, which seems clever, but actually, it is just a simple program! thats what i meant, even if it not what you meant! [sayonara]
  8. yes, i agree with sayonara, it sounds like a really simple program used inside a robot, just to make it look clever!
  9. no, [tycho?] that is correct, i knew all of that, i suppose i didnt think of an AC current as a wave of such, even though it moved back and forward, but the reason i didnt think of it as that was because a discharge of static electricity from the cloud, otherwise called lightening would be DC... if the clouds were positive, a load of electrons would flow to the sky, they sky would then become neutral, walla, all done, in one direction, therefore i assumed is would be DC, [and vice versa if the clouds were negatively charged] so the question i meant to ask was, how can a lightening bolt DC be a wave? thats what i didnt understand! and after all, this whole thread was originally [on pg1, about faraday's cage in relation to a lightening bolt!]
  10. as this seems to have no purpose [the lighting of your bulb] why dont you build a plug, its quite easy, and plug your bulb into the mains, and see what happens, and if you think it will be too powerful, build a step-down transformer, thats also quite easy, asuming that you have a iron square with a hole in the middle thing, thats needed in a transformer, hope you know how a transformer works, if not, ask! i can tell you!, but remember transformers ONLY work with an AC current! not DC
  11. YES, agreed, computers will soon have a massive leap, although "soon" might be in 50 yrs or something! fibre optics are already a big thing, for major networks! eventually the internet [the biggest network in the world] will run on fibre optics, which works at the speed of light, quantum computing will take a bit longer, but will be even more powerful. additionally, if quantum entaglement, and quantum teleportation, can be used in computers to instantly transfer data, that will be another "power up" for computers, while this may seem unreal, to people reading this thread, i promise you, it is already do-able, just in massive labs, costing loads and loads of money, once the size and cost is brought down, it will be realistic! so yes, computers will come a long way over the next 100 yrs! i suppose, and that inevitably will effect robots! and AI, so yes, maybe it is more realistic, just will take a long time! but more powerful computers will be the start! i suppose the only question left asking is: will people really want AI? there will be loads of protests probably! stupid ppl, i hate people who go on protests, why cant they just leave the opposition to do what they want? they normally protest about animal rights, which we need to test on, for our safety, and against nuclear power, which we need to advance our nations! soon they will protest about AI.......... i believe that this is also inevitable, plus the cost will be unthinkable, will it ever publicly take off?
  12. yes so far you are all correct, in a way, but the correct answer to the original question had to have been the answer by [Tycho?] well done! basically it is the subconscience at work, all sounds are monitored by your brain, while some sounds will 'activate' your brain and wake you up, others will be filtered out! most commonly, sounds effect your dreams! multiple scientific experiments have been carried out to prove this, and nearly all prove what i just said, so when someone hears a siren, they will normally have a dream about some kind of emergancy, where there are either police, ambulance, or fire engines, this is how a recent gadget by the japenese works, you give it a setting, it tries to manipulate your dreams, to the setting, however it uses the additions of scents and gentle lighing effects aswell, but it is the sound, which is the main thing which makes it work. so yes, it is the subconscience, which wakes you up depending on what it thinks the noise's priority level is, (in a way, anyway!) i dont think that how regular the sound is, has much to do with it! if you are in multiple accidents, all involving a certain noise, e.g. if, as a child, the opening of your door when you are asleep wakes you up, because your brain knows it is someone coming in, and wants to warn you, so wakes you up, but no matter how many times someone opens your door to wake you up, no matter how used to the noise you get, that noise will always wake you up! [thats true, it happened to me!]
  13. ok, so what you are saying, sayonara, is that i was not necesarily answering the original question, but other than that, agreeably, it would be complicated... you also say it is inevitable that it happens eventually, i must agree with you on that point, despite the problems which i pointed out earlier: however, i have a habit of pointing out the other side of the argument, i call it a skill! but i will occasionaly argue against what i think, to gain a better understanding of it! [it does actually work!] so what i say is that: as my dad likes to tell me on hundreds of occasions: over the last hundred years, technology and science has improved vastley, beyond all scientist wildest dreams: so my question is:- sure it has inreased vastly, but will it keep that trend, just because the last hundred years has seen science vastly improved, doesnt mean that the next 100 yrs will be the same... does it? if you think of a graph, surely it must level off somewhere, maybe the next 100 yrs will see relatively little improvements! who knows? while this may seem of the subject, by answering this question, we are also working out whether of not it is "inevitable" that AI is created, or formed, or wtvr you wanna call it!
  14. anyone?, any answers... [to my question, in my last post...]? please! thnx!
  15. but yt.... r u thinking what AI actually means? it means something that can think for itself, not a pre-programmed robot. do you know how complex the human brain is???? im sure you do, even as a chemist-y-person, you must have some idea, the brain is far too complex to program. and if you think AI just has to act, on pre-programmed programming, then think, to actually make this thing clever enough, think how massive the program would have to be. to actually be able to make up its own mind, what if it goes nuts and kills people? decides it doesnt like yt, and chops his head off, or decides it wants to mix, i dunno, some dangerous chemicals, u couldnt control it, if it could make its own decesion, which is far too complicated to program anyway and to start putting limits on what it can do A) stops it being true AI, and just makes the program, even more complicated.
  16. thnx pulkit... spike????? whats a spike? i asked, is a lightening bolt a wave? [i thought it was a discharge of static electricity from the clouds, which would surely just be a flow of electrons? and how big are these waves, because were one to be making a electric proof metal mesh, you would need to know the wavelength, are we dealing with, X-ray 'size' rays, or radio 'size' waves?
  17. true, i spose, but hey, if ur not used to internet slang then ur behind the times, u need to get used to it, and learning stuff in internet slang is a gr8 way 2 learn!, u pick it up soon, its really easy, its 2nd nature 2 me now!
  18. this is exactly what i mean, ppl like explosives, excitment! theyre different! out of the ordinary, and as i said just now, exciting! it puts some action back into life, that is... if it doesnt wipe life out entirely! but hey, whos got the prob?????? if you dont like it, just start a new thread........ EXPLOSIONS ROCK ! ! !
  19. oh yeah, AI is inteligence, does something pre-programed count as AI, surely, [heres a turn round on my behalf] surely AI MUST think for itself to be classified as AI, otherwise it wouldnt be inteligent! it would just be pre-programmed, in which case, we are no where near creating AI, sure we can pre-proram something, but can we actually create something with inteligence??? thats like saying: can we copy God, [or a massive fluke, depending on ur view of creation] and make life, inteligent life, AI?????
  20. yeah, me neither!! i like science, and a whole loads of other things! im inteligent, but i h8 languages, i h8 all french ppl, coz we got taugt it in skool [taught french], and i h8 english, all the grammar, spelling, layout crap! who give, y must everything b so formal, who gives, so long as u can read it?
  21. finally, before this thread, looses all relevance, to what is started about......: what is the difference between: quantum entaglement & quantum teleportation [see: http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4505] i mean, its obvious what the difference is, but i always thought that the processes were similar, in a way. but ive learnt a lot this thread, so i was wondering whether my original thought, or connection between the two was in any way real, or realistic to back up my view, on this website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3811785.stm which is a BBC thing on quantum teleportation, it says it uses a method called quantum entaglement, so i made the link. or was the form of teleportation on the BBC link, not quantum teleportation, or basically, what is quantum teleportation? [except thats its a way of teleporting something.....!!] and is it in any way linked to quantum entaglement? is qantum teleportation a certain method, or a name for something which can be done in serveral ways, and one of those is quantum entaglement???
  22. together, those two articles make up a lot of reading, excuse me, but i havent read all of it, only some of it... indeed it seems very interesting... ive never seen anything like it, heard, but never seen proff, or scientific experiments to prove it...
  23. i was intending on putting on a metal suit and elctrocuting myself!!!! so your saying that an electrical current is actually a wave? that a lightening bolt, which i had always thought of as a flow of electrons is actually a wave? and when pulkit says: "The wave are of this electric field" what does that mean, i sorta get it, but "the wave are of...", its the "of" which is confusing, what does "The wave are of this electric field" mean? and how big are these waves, because were one to be making a electric proof metal mesh, you would need to know the wavelength, are we dealing with, X-ray 'size' rays, or radio 'size' waves?
  24. i still think that YOU cannot create something cleverer than yourself, as it would be based on you:- unless: you taught it stuff, and other people taught it stuff, and then it would be as clever as multiple people combined, it would be cleverer than one individual, but at the same time, there is only a certain amount one can program into a robot, think of everything you know, then multiply it by the number of ppl the robot will think like! its soooooo much info, it would take years to program it all! plus, its one thing doing something biologically, there is no limit, in a sense but there is a limit to how much one can program into a robot! and i think that to make a robot significantly cleverer than us, would be tooo much!! sure you could make it cleverer than ur average class working man, but it would be based on one, or a few people, and there are things that those people wont know, and that will be a floor for the robots inteligence, if you see what i mean! unless you program everyone, in the worlds brain into a robot, there will still be some things it doesnt know! this is all based on pre-known knowledge, as well:- and quite how you could program something to invent something new, like an Einstein Bot V1.2 or sumin! who knows its one thing program already known stuff, but whats the point?????? you need it to invent, be creative, think for itself, and thats beyond our program capabilities...
