  6. ive been looking at a metal detector in maplins and it said something about ferrous, non-ferrous differenciation, maybe thats what it is. "other than that I`ve no idea, the LCD readout looks like it wouldn`t be out of place on a Star-Trek set though :)" dont be silly we have tri-corders for that!

  11. so i was sort of right about the HI, i wasnt sure because ive only seen that reaction done with sodium iodide, but there all alkali metals! the whole reaction hasnt worked for me before though to make pure iodine, the HI is supposed to be oxidised by left over sulphuric acid, so i should have iodine n SO2? any tips on how to get it right, im not sure how pure 'ebay' samples are.
  12. were you trying to make Iodine with that reaction? KI + H2SO4 ---> HI + KHSO4, the HI is the gas made, which i would have thought to be around the violet colour. just a guess anyway.

  15. i have argued before that starting and stopping your cpu all the time (heat up - cool down) may reduce its life. that was just on the basis of what people say about overclocking, the hotter the cpu gets the shorter its life, but im not sure how inconsistentcy effects it. just a guess.
  16. i could use to play the guitar - only knew how to play barcarolle though!

  18. the operation was in January this year and the paralysis was almost instant about 2 days after the operation.
  19. My grandad has now been diagnosed with brachial plexus injury, after a C5 & C6 fusion and cage. He is just looking for the explanation that the hospital wont give him. They say it was caused by the neck brace he was given in hospital to keep his neck up from where they made the incision at the front of the neck, the neck brace supposedly put too much pressure on the top of the brachial plexus nerves causing very slowly healing paralysis of the right arm. Also would being a diabitic/smoker make the blood supply even worse?
  20. Could 'Brachial Plexus Injury' be caused by lack of blood supply to the brachial plexus nerves. Causing paralysis to the right arm, due to the above?
  21. nocked a tripod over supporting a fractional distillation setup, the smashed beaker with crude oil in spilt all over the lab desk and went up in flames, and my freind tried to put it out with alcohol that he thought was water. it made quite a mess considering the desks are still wooden! the teach' always though we did that on pourpose...
