  1. where have i heard that before...
  2. you could install the Vb shop thing where you can buy titles and other things like coulered usernames n stuff. theres a forum i use alot called Pc Mechanic and when you reach 1024 posts (to do with computer bits n bytes?) you can choose a custom avatar and title, maybe something like that. to be honest im not really fussed, but sometimes it can be funny and sometimes there can be people whining for a title and a bit of contraversy to what title they recive.
  3. KCl = potassium chloride = Lo Salt. you can buy Lo Salt in most supermarkets and healthfood stores as an alternative to sodium chloride. unless you meant the oxidising agent potassium chlorate KClO3? i think you could only get it on perscription if you had a potassium deficiancy and it comes in tablet form but im sure its Lo Salt (not sure what the american trade name is - maybe K-Salt or summet?)
  4. o ive seen that on the forensic files on discovery i think, where they use that precision pipette in the fish tank and take a picture with clear film? ignore me . but it still looks good. dont you have any friends in the uni or offer to pay for the things you use? that company does it all for you right, but if your like me youd want to do it yourself.
  5. in internet explorer i can get round the right click thing easily but in firefox i cant .
  6. yep id go with htaccess or some sort of php login script, but then youdd have to give out the username+password to your friends or whoever you want to download the files.
  7. ohh sorry the only growing technique ive been tought is by using an acid and metal oxide .
  8. which he used to get back home to Iraq, but... some missionarys picked him up and brought him back to...
  9. trying to get into the building, but in retrospect... he found a £50 note on the floor...
  10. when i make crystals with metal oxides and acids i do this for larger crystals: (an eg for copper sulphate) 1. add copper oxide to hot sulphuric acid until it is not soluble anymore, then add exess copper oxide. 2. filter off the exess into a watch glass. 3. heat the filtrate GENTLY in a water bath for the largest crystals then take out and let evaperate. can someone tell me what metal oxide to use to make the green crystals ive forgot. i think its a chlorate so its done with hydrochloric acid.
  11. o i thought you meant a slug like the source here, thats an example of what ive used, apart from lead on a stick that ive seen in a cloud chamber.
  12. ye im 800 * 600 at 75 hz, if i set it at 1024*768 it goes so i cant see the screen and thats with a philips 15" lcd.
  13. "Trust No One.....", Deap Throat to scully, last eppisode of season 1. Guess what tv show .
  14. nice setup, is that a sort of van de braff thing on the back left? if i can get my digi camera to work ill take a picture. mines in the garage and is mostly things borrowed from school and bottles of reagents / things ive made. pretty make shift until i can find a UK lab suppiles company.
  15. blue and 1013, mulders favourite number and birthday.
  16. most of these stories are urban ledgends, ive heard the sodium one about 50 times in science (as people like to steal lab supplies round here...) to stop people nicking it.
  17. the x-files movie!!!!!, ive got an awful lot of favourite films, mostly the oldens and classics.
  18. i have bad asthma so its usually 30 secs max for me .
  19. i like firefox as it uses tabbed browsing, and i like the gui better. the thing is some pages will appear wrong as people code to microsoft products NOT web standards by the w3c.
  20. are these slugs like a little round disk with a little stick on the end? thats the type we use. i checked in maplins and they said £130 for the geiger muller kit!!! it might be cheaper to get a real rate meter.
  21. well dont forget if you take the radiation away you will still have a toxic chemical like any other.
  22. the folks are always suspicious to what i do anyway, alpha emmiters can be bad also if they get inside the body.
  23. im only at highschool level aswell but as i understand more and know more anyway the science teachers will freely tell me things and let me do anything within reason. the radioactive things might have something to do with we have to do that module at GCSE physics (not sure what the equivalent is?) and legally youre supposed to be 16+ to be exposed to radiation in schools, and only allowed to do so many lessons a year with it. there are things called 'fiesta plates' have an orange uranium glaze on them they are supposed to have quite a high source. but you have to think about the minerals there alot of them available, an example is one called muromontite, which is uranium and beryllium which decay to make plutonium http://www.theodoregray.com/PeriodicTable/Elements/094/index.s7.html
  24. its alpha so it isnt that harmfull outside the body, in smoke alarms you cant extract alot as the peice of metal in the ionisation chamber is only 1/5000 americium 241 - supposedly. when we use it in school we have to do things like use tweezers and dont point the source at your eyes, things like that. maybe things found in university labs like cesium 137 and colbalt 60 might work.
  25. ive got a maplins in town anyway so ill have a look in the catalog, are they like the little electric kits that you make and solder? arnet alpha particles supposed to work better with a geiger counter because they are more ionising?
