  1. 2 days is over, for my 30gram batch. it was bubling very low this morning aswell.. anyway i boiled it down to a point where there were a lot of crystals visable, i took them out with a spoon and sun dried them, ok well it melts with a match flame so i know its actually not chloride, but doesnt do anywith with Al power, charcoal or sugar edit: uhh , the filter paper used to remove the carbon crap, i dried that up aswell, i lit it up and it was very slow, there was a lot of crackling sounds coming from it with salt jumping in the air and etc..
  2. Im a little confused here, when it says connect 3 yellow wires together.. now i know why that is done but why not more then 3?
  3. hmm, heres a picture i drew my self according to what you said http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/5254/psu0ki.jpg
  4. i havent attached the resistors yet but i had the carbon rods attached to 12volts (as shown on site) and basiclly it boiling the water, well not as much as boiling but it went from 200ml to 150ml in 4 hours, i can feel hot gas going past my hand as i wave it over the beaker. also sems like the salt got caught on one of the carbon rods, and basiclly the shit has melted right on it
  5. yer with this i just press the swtich on the other end of the black thick tube and it goes on, ill go out today and pick up them 5 ceramic resistors of 22 Ohm/5 Watt
  6. No, it made reference to a brown wire and the only brown wire i got in the psu is the 240volt one. heres a picture: http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/7803/dsc005335hu.jpg im not so good with electronics, ive only done 2 years of it as part of school so i wouldnt know as much as you so dont go mad.
  7. when you say 2 amperes requires less time, does that mean more amperes = faster Im reading the website you have provided. i will try it tommorow. Is the load resistor just so that it doesnt go off for like 5minutes if you accidentally short circuit it but instead act like a fuse and blow out if its overloaded for a long time (like an adaptor)? Everything after "Additional wiring and resistor networks" gives me a headache. EDIT: the power supply i have has a button for turning it on, its in a black thick tube and inside that theres4 wires. brown, blue, black, white. and there a naked wire in it which seems to be the green wire and there connected to the powercord hole at one end and at the other end to the switch EDIT#2: theres only 1 orenge theres no brown wire other then the one which is 240volts coming in to the switch
  8. This is what the powder looked like from my first attempt using NaCl that went for about 2 days: http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/8954/naclo33cu.jpg It doesnt melt or anything when i hold a match to it, it turns a little yellow tho and the powder smells like chlorine aswell
  9. Alright, i did have a filter which i used to get rid of the carbon crap, so if there was a sodium chlorate solution that when through, then some naclo3 would be dried up in the paper, tho when i tried to light it, it was very slow and didnt really catch on fire. I now have some Low sodium salt (50% sodium and 50% potassium chloride) that im gonna try it with, except when i measured 40grams of it and put it in boiling 100ml water, it was weird because more then half didnt dissolve and this was when it was boiling. so anyway im gonna let it go for overnight, if it were to convert to chlorate then the potassium chlorate will crystalize out as it has fairly low solublity. ill try to boil it to around 50%l and let the rest go in the oven( so it wouldnt over heat on the stove and release o2 therefore going back to chloride)
  10. Mmm, i took your advice and im using 5 volts from computer psu for the conc. NaCl solution. stuck two carbon rods in, and left it going for a day or two. took out the electrodes, was clear with a little carbon residue, aswell as smelling a whole like the swimming pool and bleech, anyway according to the website instructions, i boiled it to powder form, but it didnt work (as in the test about mixing it with sugar and dropping conc. sulfuric acid on top). so i thought mabye the acid was bad so i mixed the powder i had gotten with aluminium (around 0.1grams or less alltogether) so basicly taking in all the safety precautions, i tried to light it up with a match and a sparkler but nothing happend know what i did wrong ?
  11. http://hazard.com/msds/ Go there and type in chemical names. I dont know why your asking about Ammonium Chlorate, its rather highly explosive/unstable. -edit msds does tell you what happens when indigrested and etc.

Err, i think i read the topic wrong, i though he ment solid NaCl and HNO3

Cry. Also i would assume when you add HNO3 to NaCl, it will give HCl gas and NaNO3 that is of course if you use correct moles/amount of each... but then i could be all wrong.
  14. 60/40 is a smoke mixture 65/35 and 75/25 is the rocket mixture i personally use 65/35 + 0.5% iron oxide The the combustion would consists of Co2+ h2o + k2co3, all which arn't harmful (doesnt mean its good for you). the correct reaction equation was posted on another thread here, dont remeber which If you want cool effects use charcoal instead of sugar because you cant see effects when your using sugar (atleast for me) and a cool effect would be a modified blackpowder that burns slower with added aluminium powder. heres a video of mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K5GzHJusU4
  15. how do you actually make h2o2, seems rather complicated in a home lab
  16. unless you change the laws of physics How cold can we get something down to. eg freezing helium without pressure
  17. Kinda reminds me of when i played with Silver Nitrate at school. My whole hand went brown/black for 2 weeks. Gallium is rather intresting. Wood's Metal unitednuclear sells looks better, you can probably cast it on your skin but im not sure about how bad its lead content is. Anyone have a video of NaK reacting with water?
  18. that could be quite dangerous if done on the railway tracks
  19. [w00t]

    Rockets

Ammonium Nitrate, Copper Nitrate, Ammonium Dichromate, Iron Oxide would definetly not work
  20. he actually had this video on his website long time ago, as i recall didnt seem dangerous
  21. YT2095, people tend to test things to see what happens no matter what people tell them. because u say its dangerous and etc, they will start wanting to see for them selves.
  22. Heres a quesiton as i don't want to make another thread. Coring a Smokebomb (kno3/su) will burn in less than 1 second. Would that produces the same ammount of smoke if it wasn't cored?
  23. Heh, happened to me once, even though I only do 5grams at a time. I wasn't paying attention and it overheated and went off. I assume if you have a electric stove its much safer as temperatue control is easier. I don't really like the Dextrin idea, takes to long to dry (taking note in the hygroscopic of both sucrose and kno3) even if you add 1:1 water to alcohol
