Go for it! I`m 42 in May, and last year was in College amongst 16-17 year olds doing `A` level Chem as a refresher (the basics can get Rusty!). a PhD should be no problem either.

I use firefoxes "Download helper", however, before this I used to use to pull it directly off my HDD once the file has completely loaded, I don`t rem the exact pathway, but if you load a clip off youtube, and then do a search on you`r HDD for the Latest Modified (search parameters within the last hour) then look for the approximate time-stamp, if the file looks like a load of <random letters and numbers.FLV>, that`s the one! (some still use the SWF suffix) make a Shortcut to Desktop to this area where these temp files are stored, and as soon as they fully download move them to another area on the HDD because they Do time-out and delete themselves! then you`ll need a suitable player, I use VLC media player personally.

if you soak the filter papers in the silver nitrate 1`st and then spray on the salt water soln, you`ll get the PPT form within the fibers weave and are able to create a far more stable image than just using the powder, you also use far less chemical adding a little potassium or sodium bromide to the NaCl will assist in development time too. also if you can make these papers in the dark or under a safe-light, you can use them just like propper photo plates after with only a seconds exposure, and then then develop the latent image with a reducer. Vitamin C and strong Instant coffee will work as a developer as will paracetamol (acetominophen) and vitamin C. ALL must be done in a dark room! (except for the actual exposure). a soak in sodium thiosulphate after will "Fix" the image so that no further development can take place and spoil you picture when it`s in the daylight afterwards. I figure if you can get silver nitrate, then the Thio won`t be a problem

Assembly language is yet another stage further up the chain towards a high level language. you may go ASM to HEX then down to raw Binary, after that it`s soldering iron level bear in mind tho, I don`t know any High Lev languages other than BASIC, so I can`t really much when it comes to C+ or the plethora of other new langs out there.
