  1. Me too, add to that Atomic theory, germ theory, QT and all of the other science and mathematics theories. Perception, intuition and even logic can fail us when trying to make sense of things. It's nice that generations of scientists did all that for us and now we can just pick up a text book.
  2. We do not use eyes and ears, we use cutting edge ground based and space telescopes, spectrophotometers, interferometers, detectors in particle accelerators, electron microscopes, mass spectrometers, NMR, IR spectrometry. We then use eyes to look at the data, lots of eyes via peer review and publication.
  3. Ok, did not know that. I'm a bit literal when it comes to drums.
  4. Requested twice not to post medical advice prior to this so I have reported.
  5. A renewal thing as far as I know. If the claims and numbers are off then WTF will not be used in a paper. Here is fine though.
  6. Check out the FSC Here you go, https://fsc.org/en
  7. No. NaOH is not a cure for COVID either, not when directly injected into veins or organs because these corrosive chemicals damage cells. Before you ask a high octane blow torch will kill cancer cells but.....
  8. A rimshot is when you play the snare head and rim together. I think you meant a "b dem bish." We have been discussing you all on sciforums and how we could get in touch if the site disappeared for good. Poach you for SF dot com and I was thinking Physics forums too.

The road to Pol Pot's Cambodia and the slaughter house of the Khmer rouge goes back to the 1960s. I think it's safe to say that communism in the 1970s did not work out too well.

Pol Pot was a communist regime too.
  11. Yes, all eyes are different, just as everyone will not hear things the same way or walk the same way. Different number of receptors, size and shape of the lens, thickness of the nerves etc. The stimulus from the retina to the brain is not instantaneous either, fast though, about 40-100 m/s. A short distance so not too far off instant. I didn't know about minimum photons but the guys covered that?
  12. You would not believe how many times that quote has been misused by cranks. I think @exchemist knows the context. To put things into perspective, Einstein qualified for University and was top of class. Once he obtained his degree he went on to do PhD and became Dr Einstein. He read all the available scientific literature of his time and sent his papers to recognized established journals where they were published. He received a Nobel prize for physics as a result of his contributions to physics. Einstein had a lot of knowledge and used it.
  13. He was a disgusting POS. I have read enough of his hateful, divisive crap to realise that. Judging his words, that's it.

It later came to light that the "good" Nazi, Albert Speer who featured in the series, did have knowledge of the final solution. Involvement with which he denied and received a 20 year prison sentence at the Nuremberg trials, instead of the death penalty.
  15. Should I pretend to be ignorant instead? Or just convert because they were kind enough to come to my door? I think it is highly unlikely that any of the JW that came to visit actually considered anything I said because my arguments went against their position. Would they think twice before using those arguments again? because there maybe other people who could dismantle their arguments? More people like me? It is a possibility, they may thought about adjusting their script. Unlikely though. That was a "nice" experience, there were more confrontational experiences with obnoxious people. By that time I was well into Biblical criticism so we did not even touch on science. That was another Gish Gallop extravaganza, two ladies, utterly awful, arrogant and self righteous. One suggested I was never a true Christian because "I accepted atheism." They gave up but not before I educated them on scripture, that felt good, they were loathsome.

UK reform is getting high numbers in polls, main drive is immigration/immigrants, it worked with Trump. Worrying.
  17. No idea, a godless atheist? Is that important to the thread? If someone knocks at my door with a aim of converting me to Christianity, then they need to bring a decent argument. I did not expect them to be scientists, that's fine but do not use scientific arguments in that case. Also yes I was punching down in that case.
  18. It was pretty basic stuff. Evolution and The Theory of Evolution are not the same thing. Theory and Scientific theory are different things. Humans are animals. The fossil record supports Evolutionary theory. The DNA evidence supports Evolutionary theory. Humans and dinosaurs did not inhabit the earth at the same time. Life on earth evolved. Like I said low hanging fruit. JW in the street do not speak, they just man a stand. Pretty harmless. There is a regular anti Vax stand in Manchester Piccadilly, the stand owner looks like a new age hippy. A conversation there would be pointless. I did shout at anti Vax demo in Manchester, they threw insults at me because I was wearing a mask so I returned the favour. A nasty aggressive bunch, I was glad to call out their vacuous arguments to their faces.

Nice. All those working class towns and cities lost a lot of people in the wars. I read that the memorials were not merely to gather and remember but because there was no way they could get all those bodies back from the trenches. 900,000.
  20. I had (still have) a good friend who was a Christadelphian, his views were similar to JW from memory. He told me that Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible.
  21. I have had good and bad, one lady came regularly, very lovely. We would have a cup of tea and discuss the Bible, life. She brought an "expert" one time because I told her that scripture did not align with science. (low hanging fruit) He turned out to be a nervous confused gentleman and tried to convince me that all animals including humans were vegetarian before the flood. Then this other guy came who took time to list his qualifications but then told me "not to worry about that." I experienced what I believe is now called "Gish galloping." When I answered one point he simply moved along in his script. An arrogant frustrating individual.

Absolutely. The road to Stalingrad was a slaughter house. You have probably already seen it but I recommend "the world at war" 1973, Narrated by Lawrence Olivier. I don't remember the sketch but I remember the series. Harry Corbett died quite young from memory.

I have so many good Yank contacts on physics forums, very smart, real gents. My favourite is a German guy, super smart mathematician. I am English and of all the peoples I have met the Germans were the closest. Learning German for a few months then going to a festival where you are the only Brit was an eye opener. What can I say, I like our German cousins, they are nuts and it was unexpected to see them that way, so close to us. Yanks are us effectively, it's only been a few hundred years, by "us" I mean over here. Irish, Italian, Jewish, Polish.... Art, literature, music, science and an ally when we needed them most. Europe need to remember that WW2 would have been a different place if America would have decided not to send it's sons and daughters to war.
